Catherine's POV:
After breakfast I get in my regular cab and arrive at my office at 8:30 a.m. a full half hour early. This is a new record for me.
I gaze up at the building in awe. It consists of eighty floors of floor to ceiling glass. The company's name is written in black letters above the front door which shine in the sun. KING's EMPIRE.
As I'm about to enter the main building, after passing the security check, I see a black limo parked in front of the office. I'm sure it belongs to my boss, Mr Daniel King. I spy a tall, broad figure entering the office surrounded by bodyguards. Oh my god, he is here I am going to meet him in a few minutes!
I enter the building, trying to stay far enough behind as to not look like a stalker. I climb a set of stairs and emerge into an open-planned office. My boss is standing in the middle of the floor, surveying his employees with an air of cool superiority.
I can see why the girls fall at his feet. He is tall, dark and handsome indeed. He doesn't acknowledge the people around him, despite the fact that they are clearly waiting to greet him with flowers and gifts.
I step closer to introduce myself to him, but a girl with a really short dress beats me to it and greets him. She introduces herself to him and says that she works in this headquarters. I thought he was going to greet her in response, but instead he literally chockes her and fires her without a second thought. Now I know why people call him “the curse of the world." Suddenly I just want to get out of his sight and out of this whole damn building. She just politely introduced herself to him, and for that he almost killed her. What if I make a bigger mistake?
He just enters the elevator as if nothing happened. After taking a deep breath, I brace myself to follow his every order exactly, vowing that I will not give him the satisfaction of treating me the way he treated that poor Bella.
I ride the elevator up to floor seventy nine where I ask the receptionist to accompany me to the boss's office. It is clear that we are both nervous as we are the ones who work closest to the "devil king."
I knock on his office door, my stomach tightening with fear.
“Come in," he calls. We exchange a nerous glance, both visibly trembling before I swing the door open.
DANIEL'S POV:
As I'm reading a file, I hear a knock at my door. I give permission for them to enter and two girls walk into my cabin. I can see the fear on their faces, even though one girl is bravely smiling at me.
They both start introducing themselves. “Good morning, sir. I'm Catherine Joseph. I'm appointed here as your new PA."
"Do you think you're the boss here? You're my PA, you have to be here before me!" I yell at her as I don't tolerate late comers.
"Sorry, sir."
“Tomorrow you have to be here before I am or you may consider yourself fired.“ She nods, but it appears she doesn't have anything to add.
I turn my attention to the other girl, demanding "Speak!" when she just stares at me fearfully.
"Good morning, sir, I'm your receptionist on floor seventy nine."
“Don't you dare smile at me ever again. I also hate people that waste my time. I assume you both know what your jobs are here as you are experienced in your fields? You may start working now. Catherine, arrange a meeting with the heads of all departments for after lunch." I order my new PA. I doubt I'll still remember her name by tomorrow. “I also want a list of all my employees on my desk in thirty minutes. You may leave now.“
During the meeting I fire half of my staff as I am not satisfied with their performance and proceed to remind my remaining employees that I expect excellence from everyone of them or else they might just as well pack up and leave now.
I have to admit that, so far, this new PA is good at her job.
ROSE'S POV:
After a hectic day, I return home at 8:00 p.m. to find that Catherine isn't home yet. This is strange, because she is usually home much earlier than the rest of us. Perhaps she had a hard day at work?
After making dinner, Eva and I pace the hallway as we anxiously wait for Cathy to return. Helen and Zoe also wait close by, although only they know why.
A minute before ten, we hear the door click and Eva starts shouting at Cathy. "Do you know what time it is? Where were you this late?"
“Do you think I was out partying?" Cathy fires back sarcastically.
"Were you at your boyfriend's place?"
"No! I just came from work. I couldn't even call my boyfriend all day."
"What sort of boss will let you work this late? Is he mad?"
"No one but the devil will, and he didn't leave his office until now," Cathy says indignantly.
"Devil?" Zoe, Eva, Helen and I ask as one.
“The devil is no one other than my boss!"
"What do you mean?" I ask, wondering what her boss had done to deserve such a name. "When did your handsome boss turn into a devil?"
“It's a long story," Cathy sighs. "But why are you both waiting up for me? You'd normally be sleeping by now."
"We're just concerned for our roommate." Zoe decides to answer for us,, even though the question hadn't been directed at her.
Cathy offers a smile then she proceeds to tell the full story.
“He's a real devil?" Eva asks incredulously.
“But he is handsome, so who cares?“ Helen interjects.
“He'll kill you without second thought if you just say the wrong thing," Cathy states emphatically.
"Does he even have a heart? How can he just fire all of them without any notice? I hate him!" I exclaim.
After talking some more, we call it a night and head off to bed. As I lie in bed thinking about what Cathy said, I can't shake the feeling that her boss isn't as bad as everyone makes him out to be.
