DANIEL'S POV:
Finally the plane lands in New York. My car, personal bodyguards and the cops arranged by the New York government to ensure my safety are all waiting for my arrival. I descend from my private jet like a king. “The devil king." I think to myself with a grin. I quite like the sound of that.
Everyone introduces themselves to me while shaking in fear. Oliver, my head bodyguard, steps forward to introduce Mark. Mark is to be my personal driver in New York.
I am younger than everyone here, but they respect me as their king. That's the way I like it.
I get in my limo, Mark climbs behind the wheel and we start off into city traffic. After forty minutes I reach my mansion which looks more like a castle. I bought this mansion two years ago just because it looks different from other mansions in New York, but I didn't have any idea what I was going to do with it.
I didn't have any plans to visit or settle in New York two years ago, but since I am staying now, I might as well live in style.
I don't trust just anyone to work for me, so there are only a few workers in this mansion. People will come here to work when I am not around and there is a high security system so that I can always watch the mansion and its surroundings. There are no other mansions or houses within a ten kilometre radius.
I have to get ready for work. I don't need any rest. I'll take my breakfast in my office as it's 07:15 now.
The biggest room in this mansion is my bedroom. Of course it is. The whole mansion looks empty, but I'm use to this emptiness.
I get ready in my three piece Armani and get in another limo to head to the office. After half an hour, Mark parks the limo in front of the office. There is paparazzi all over the road. Thank goodness for cops and bodyguards. I do not have time for endless questions today or on any other day for that matter.
I enter my office without any hint of an expression on my face. All the employees are ready to greet me, but I brush passed them without comment. I do not give a s**t about them. We are not friends and the sooner they learn that, the better.
As I'm about to enter the private elevator when I am interrupted by a girl. "Hi, Sir..." she stammers.
“Who are you?" I demand impatiently.
“Sir, my name is Bella and I work as an accountant in your financial department. Welcome, Sir, I hope you'll enjoy working here."
I sigh inwardly. Here is another girl I have to get off my back. I grab her neck with my left hand, deciding the quicker she gets out of my way, the better for all involved. “First of all, you have to learn how to greet your employer and secondly, how dare you interrupt me while I clearly have important matters to attend to?" I drop her on the floor with full force.
I can see the fear on the faces of all the other employees, but I don't care. Fear means respect.
“You're fired!" I yell at the girl, and turn towards my other employees. "Get back to work!" Within seconds all the employees are in their respective seats, all suddenly appearing extremely busy with their tasks.
I get into the elevator and press the button for the eightieth floor, the top floor in KING's EMPIRE. I step out on to the floor of my office, noticing that it's as silent as the grave. I smile as I realize there is no one else on this floor. This space is my safe haven.
My PA and receptionist work on the floor below my office. The entire building has floor to ceiling windows which provide a spectacular view over New York. The city looks like a miniature model from my vantage point high above the streets. I gaze down for a moment, taking in the city I both hate and love and wondering what will happen now that I am back.
Tears threaten to spill as bad memories fight their way into my mind, but I shrug them off, leave the window and settle at my desk to go over the company files. Now is not the time to get emotional. The pains from my past will have to wait.
ROSE'S POV:
I have been awake since 4:00 a.m. so that I could clean the house and do Helen and Zoe's laundry. I have also prepared Catherine's breakfast and lunch.
I glance at the clock, shocked to find that it's already 7:00 a.m.
Shit! I have to wake Catherine or she'll be late for work. I step into her room, fully prepared to yank open her curtains and kick her out of bed, but to my surprise she is already awake and dressed for work.
“Who are you and what have you done with Catherine?" I tease.
“What are you blabbering about, Rose? I'm your Catherine. Go and get your eyes checked," she grumbles, never much of a morning person.
“In all the years I've known her, my Catherine has never been up before 7:30 a.m. so forgive me if I am curious as to what happened to bring about this change. Even when your previous job started at 8:30 a.m. you only woke up at 7:30 a.m. What's different about this job?"
"I have never been the world's most handsome bachelor's PA before."
I grimace to show my disapproval at the fact that she's still going on about him, but Catherine doesn't seem to notice. She is too caught up in her daydreams about a perfect job with a handsome boss. “Your breakfast is ready, and I've already packed your lunch," I say as I leave the room, preferring to let her daydream alone.
“Aww, you're such a sweetheart!" Of course she'd react to the mention of food.
We all have breakfast after which Eva helps me with the dishes as Zoe and Helen watch. Apparently they only know how to eat and prefer to leave the cleaning to someone else. After cleaning up, we all head off to our respective jobs.
