CHAPTER 46
CASSIAN'S POV
I can't get the image of her glowing in the room out of my head. At some point, it feels like I am judging her. But I can't do that. Nova is the last person I can judge. She is scared. She is just being strong about the whole thing. I don't care about how strong she tries to be. I just want to assure her that she is fine. That I am not going to leave her side.
That I am not going to allow people take advantage of her.
I allow myself a small smile. I finally get to tell her that I love her. And just for a second, I feel like a teenage boy all over again. I can't look past the smile that is on her lips as she tells me that she loves me too.
“Yes, she almost brought the house down,” I hear someone say, and I almost stop in my tracks. I force myself to keep moving.
“And the Alpha is still by her side?” another person asks.
“Yes, he's trying to love her unconditionally. And I guess he's doing a good job at it.”
“Maybe they just want Beatrice to see what unconditional love looks like. You know, she didn't really get to experience all that with Killian.”
I run my hands through my face. I should have known that there are maids in the mansion, cleaning up. It is my fault for taking her back there.
They are always going to talk. And I so much hate how quickly all the drama in the pack flies around.
They are never going to have enough of this drama.
I am just about to walk into my office when I spot two figures walking towards me. I turn around, almost swearing that I am going to lose my mind if it is Beatrice or Killian.
Nate gives me a wave, and I feel the knot in my chest loosen slightly. I have a weak spot for this boy. And I am not going to take any of it for granted. He is nothing less than my own brother.
Jason is beside him, with a hand on his shoulder.
Jason's lips are set in a straight line, and I can tell that he is bothered about something.
Nate hurries to me, wrapping his arms around me in a hug.
“I missed you,” he says, and I lean down, kissing his hair.
“I missed you too,” I say with a smile. He doesn't notice anything off. “Did you have fun?”
“A lot of fun.”
Jason walks towards him, touching his shoulder. I notice that even Jason has some kind of softness in his eyes. Like he is trying so hard not to show it, but it is there.
“How about you go and play in the garden for a while? I'll join you soon.”
Nate gives him a nod and heads towards the garden without any argument.
Jason is still looking at him as he walks away.
“He's broken, isn't he?” he asks, and I nod.
“It is a good thing that you're here, teaching him everything that he needs to know.”
Jason c***s an eyebrow, but he doesn't argue. Then he turns to look at me.
“What happened this evening?” he asks, and I narrow my eyes at him.
“What did you hear?” I ask, and he looks at the side of my head before letting out a breath.
“I heard that Nova had an outburst. And now that I can see the bleeding on the side of your head, I can tell that she gave it to you bad.”
I swallow hard at that.
“It wasn't that serious, so calm down,” I say, and he nods, like he doesn't even believe a word that just comes out of my mouth.
“What will happen if she loses control again?” he asks, and I feel my throat tighten.
I don't know the answer to that. I just know that I want to be by her side whenever that happens. It doesn't matter if she is going to throw me to the wall a thousand times.
Jason takes a step towards me, and he lowers his voice. “With the way information is flying around, you should know that it has gotten to Killian.”
Fuck, I don't even think about it. But Jason is right.
Killian is watching, and I just know that he is waiting for the next moment that he will be able to strike. I am not going to give him what he is looking for.
“Very well then,” I say, and all the gears in my head are already turning as I try to look for the next solution I am supposed to take.
“What are you going to do?” Jason asks, looking at me like he is waiting to take orders.
“Well, we have to fix my room first,” I say, and he nods.
“And then what next?” he asks, and I smirk slightly.
There is just one thing that I am left to do. I don't want anybody else hearing or seeing when she has another outburst. And I am sure that she is going to have them over and over again.
She isn't trained just yet.
Hell, I don't even know what I am supposed to be training her on. Not when I don't have any experience with it.
“We have to keep her confined for now.”
Jason widens his eyes slightly.
“I'm sure you know who you're trying to confine.”
“I know,” I say, and he nods, pressing his lips into a thin line. “But for tonight, I want her to rest.”
I watch Jason as he walks away, and I turn, heading towards the priestess' lair. She is the only one that has experience with someone of Nova's kind. She is the only one I know who even got married to one.
As I bring my hand to the door and knock, it opens immediately, and there is a worried look on her face as she pulls me into the lair.
“What happened?” she asks immediately. “I heard everything that happened with Nova.”
I exhale. “She lost control,” I say. “She brought down part of the ceiling.”
Now that I say it, I realize that it is something I am supposed to be proud of. She is strong.
If she is guided properly, she is going to be powerful. I don't even want to make her a weapon.
She is my mate. And she is supposed to live a good life. She is supposed to live like my Luna. And I am going to make sure that she does.
“You have to help me,” I say, looking over at the priestess, and she presses her lips into a thin line.
“What do you need help with?” she asks in a whisper, like she is scared that someone is listening to us.
“What to train her on. How to stop another outburst.”
She licks her lips. “Only you can do that. Train her on everything that you know. The other part of her will develop on its own. Don't stress yourself about that.”
I run a hand through my face. I am more than willing to teach her everything that I know. But then, I have to confine her at the same time.
I have to make it work somehow.
But I have to first break the news to Nova. That she isn't allowed to go outside.
She is not going to like that very much.
