CHAPTER 1
Jackie's POV.
I couldn't even get a good sleep. This was the deepest excitement I had felt in a long while. I was finally getting married to my lover after 3 years of dating. My fears were finally burned down. Fear of losing him to other women, fears that I was not good enough. Not that I wasn't a confident person but WALKER was too good to be true. Over 6 ft tall, fully bearded upright and cool headed jovial billionaire. Every day with him felt like a beautiful dream. The one you will wish never ends. It was 3 am already, a few hours to our wedding and all I could do was stare at the charming prince life blessed me with sleeping deep. I was reminiscing about how it all started. How we met when I went for my dental check up and how he approached me with so much confidence and complemented my neck piece. From the first date to our first s*x experience and the numerous vacations we had together, everything was filled with glamour and intense peace. In the past 10 months his real estate business net worth almost doubled.
After reminiscing for so long I decided to go back to bed to avoid having saggy eyes in the morning but I couldn't ignore the message beeps from Walker's phone. It became consistent and annoying. I went to put it on silence. No part of me wanted to know who was sending the messages or the content of the message. But the first thing I accidentally saw as a content of the message was “kill” and It caught my attention.
“Let me just read through this one” I said to myself.
The message read “Last time I'm texting you, next time, I am putting a bullet through your head. My heart started racing immediately as I went through previous texts. The number wasn't saved so I couldn't get a hold of the name but all I saw were different threats without an actual reason.
By 9 am we were already on our way to the wedding. We went in his black rolls Royce. We both sat behind. I tried to find the best way to ask Walker about what I saw without letting him know that I went through his phone. The weird part was that he acted normal and unbothered throughout.
“Babe I want you to promise me that as we tie the knot, you will never hide anything that concerns you from me”. I asked him as I stared deep into his eyeballs.
“Yes baby, I assure you. Nothing will come between us.” He responded, totally unfazed.
We arrived at the venue. It was a huge 2000 person capacity hall. It was so breathtaking and spacious with huge Chandeliers. The interior design was magnificent with a blend of classic and modern elements.
We walked in through the middle of the hall. All the guests were on their feet and their faces beemed with smiles as they gazed at us. It felt like I was the main character of a fairytale. As we approached the podium where the priest waited for us I shared glances with my mom and Walker's parents then tears rolled down my eyes.
“Do you take Walker Hart as your lovely wedded–”
A loud sound of shattered glass interrupted the Priest. We all turned immediately and saw shattered glass on the ground close to the end of the hall. Then, a certain guy stood with a half full liquor bottle underneath his arm. Even though he put on a clean blue suit, His hair and beards were unkept. He staggered towards the podium. I became scared immediately and it occurred to me that it must have been the anonymous messenger. I turned to Walker and saw that he began hyperventilating.
“Babe are you okay?” I asked him. He didn't utter a word as his full focus was on the approaching Man. Three able bodied security men came in and tried to pull him out but to my greatest surprise, It was Walker that signalled them to let him be. He continued his staggering steps as he approached us.
“Babe, who is this?”. I asked Walker.
“Don't worry, it's not important.”
He responded.
“Nelson, what's the matter?”. Walker asked Him as they stared at each other with intense scrutiny.
Nelson told Walker that he wanted them to have the conversation somewhere more private and he insisted I was present. The three of us left to the inner room In the hall leaving the priests and guests confused. As we approached the inner hall I heard the side talks getting loud.
Inside the Inner hall—
Nelson faced the window, with his hand crossed behind his back. Walker sat on the dirty couch there with his head slightly bowed and his eyes fixed on the ground.
At this point, I had enough and I just had to let it out —
“What the heck is going on?” I screamed loud.
“I think you should ask that fraud of a man you are about getting married to”. Nelson responded with his gaze still focused at the window.
I turned to Walker, slowly he raised his head and responded.
“That's Nelson, an ex business partner, we had an issue and parted ways—”
“We had an issue and parted ways?” Nelson said in mockery. He was still looking at the window.
“That Pablo esobar of a husband you are about getting married to is the reason I spent 7 years in jail for d**g crimes he committed and hasn't stopped committing”. Nelson added.
I was so stunned.
“What is he talking about, Walker?”
With a shaky voice He responded—
“I can explain babe, I promise—”
“You can explain what?! You are a f*****g d**g dealer!”
I replied with in a thunderous tone. I took steps backwards then Nelson finally turned and said to Walker–
“Ah ah ah ah ah, you have always been a naughty boy Walker. You mean you were going to get married to this pretty young lady without letting her know that you push drugs and this whole real estate thing is just a cover up?”
At this point tears rolled down my eyes and I couldn't even utter a word. I stormed out of the room and ran out of the wedding hall. My dream wedding turned out to be a disaster.
