Chapter 4:Monsters and Memories.

1166 Words
I didn't want to go outside. If this place was really my dream, then I'd be dead if I stepped out that door. But I couldn't stay there forever. I had a rumbling feeling in my stomach, I was hungry. The only thing that went into my stomach was the soda I bought back on earth. I was scared. I stared at the door. If I wanted to eat something, I had to leave the station. This world was just like earth so it was hard to differentiate and because of that I assumed the food here would be the same too. I made my way to the door. My fingers trembled, I hesitated, but I gently held the handle of the door and with a twist I pulled it open. The sky was orange, with a blend of purple, it was evening. Then I found out that time here and on earth were the same. I hesitated again, then slowly, I took a step outside. It was cold, calm, and deserted. I was afraid, I thought of heading back into the station, but I didn't let it stop me, I ran. Walking wasn't the best option if an entity from my nightmare was to sure up. As I ran, I scanned my surroundings. It was no different from earth. Luckily I saw a convenience store. Its windows were broken, its shelves lay on the ground, some were broken, and a fallen billboard beside it saying “All you need” it was written in English, so I knew I wasn't in Korea and since this isn't earth, Korea wouldn't even be here. I quickly ran inside. I turned my neck, left, right as I scanned for food. I saw a bag of chips and without hesitation I picked it up, then I tore the bag open. Some of it fell on the floor; I took a bite. “It's real chips!” I said with a groan after tasting it. I dipped my fingers into the bag once more, then I ate continuously without a moment to breath. I choked, then I saw an orange juice in a plastic bottle, and I ran to pick it up, though I stumbled upon some of the shelves, I stood up an ran towards it. It was covered in dust, I wiped the dust with my hand, then attempted to open up the bottle, which I failed to. Then I buried my hand under my T shirt to strengthen my grip, and with another attempt, I was able to open it. I took a sip, then I knew it was real before I swallowed it, then I drank the whole thing. I gasped as I took the bottle off my lips, then I tossed the bottle away. A bag of chips and a bottle of orange juice wouldn't be enough to satisfy me so I kept eaten after confirming of each snack was real. After a few minutes I was satisfied then I made my way outside. I scanned the area again before I kept walking. To me, staying in the same position wasn't a safe option. I didn't know where I was going, or what to do. “Clear a tower?” I muttered to myself. “This is literally an entire city, how is someone going to clear this!?” I was frustrated, I clenched my fist, “If only, I hadn't been a burden to Ji-hoon, we wouldn't have been in the position we're in now.” I narrowed my eyes as tears welled up. “Arrgh!” I screamed as I slowly went down on my knees, I cried, for Ji-hoon and because I was in a place I never imagined I would be in. I was literally in my own nightmare. I paused as I felt an uneasy pressure, I ran into one of the abandoned houses to hide. I could hear footsteps, lots of it. I placed my hand on my mouth. I quickly took a peek and what I saw was something I found hard to describe. I almost gasped but I held it in. According to what my eyes saw, it's eyes were all over its head but it avoided its wide mouth it looked like a centaur but instead of having only four legs, it a large amount that I couldn't count because they appeared and disappeared from all directions below it. It lacked hands. It stopped then gradually turned its head to look at me, but I took my gaze off and rested my back on the wall before running away. As I ran, I heard something, it sounded like the cry of a child. I stopped then I turned, following the sound to wherever it came from. It led me into the first floor of a building, and as I made my way up the stairs, I saw a little boy, he was crying so I quickly ran to him in. “H-hey, are you okay?” I asked. He sniffed, wiping the mucus from his nose as he raised his head to look at me. “Y-yeah I'm fine, but p-please don't hurt me just like the way those monsters hurt my family,” he said while stuttering. Before I could say a word, I heard a voice, it sounded familiar, it said “Don't hurt the poor child Ha-eun.” I quickly turned my head to face him. My eyes widened, my breath hitched, my throat tightened. “D-dad?” I said as I stared in awe. “Don’t hurt the poor child Ha-eun,” he repeated. “No, y-you’re dead,” I said, I slowly began to tremble. “Don't hurt the poor child Ha-eun!” He repeated again but this time in anger. “You died in a car accident on your way to Seoul ten f*cking years ago!” “Don't hurt the poor child Ha-eun!” He said again, but this time, the boy said it along with him. I turned to look at the boy, his eyes gradually darkened as they repeated this word over and over. At that moment, I knew I was in a situation that I couldn't escape. I scanned the area, I couldn't find anything I could use to defend myself. I slowly stepped back, till my back came in contact with the wall. I don't know how, I don't know where it came from, but I saw a pocket knife beside my right leg. I didn't think, I didn't have enough time to, so I picked up the knife and when the intimidating figure who pretended to be my father got close to me, my hand swung the knife slashed his throat. His neck began to bleed. Blood gushed out, and with a shout, his head exploded. His body layed flat on the ground. The boy stopped talking, he was stunned. I was relieved but there was a problem. My hand moved against my will.
