Chapter1
Cassandra's POV
The noise is deafening and the smell of countless perfumes and scent mixed together is assaulting my olfactory senses. I would give anything to be on my bed in the attic and stare at the wet spot on the ceiling.
Instead, I'm dressed in a maid's outfit and attending to stuck-up Alphas and Lunas who are sharing fake smiles. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that they are sizing each other, trying to figure out which of them has the largest and most influential pack.
I've been shuffling trays from the kitchen into the party for hours now. Not to mention that the heels that they forced me to wear aren't helping matters.
I roll my eyes and grit my teeth as a middle-aged man taps me on the butt while I walk by him.
I wish I could snap at him and tell him to keep his dirty paws to himself but that reaction will probably leave me with a beheaded body. I shiver at that thought. I like where my head is and I plan to leave it there for as long as I can.
Thankfully, the drinks on my tray get finished and I use it as an excuse to go to the kitchen to get more. Just I'm just as I'm pilling up the tray again, a delicious smell hits me in the nose. My spine straightens and I sniff the air to get more of it.
Picking up the tray with one hand I start following this smell and it leads me back into the ballroom. What is that awesome smell and where is it coming from?
The smell gets stronger the more I get closer to the ballroom and I don't take notice of my surroundings.
An oomph comes out of me as I bump into someone.
The tray slips out of my hand and the drinks in it fall onto the stranger that I just bumped into. I let out a horrified gasp as the front of the stranger's suit turned wet and as the multiple glasses on the tray shatter on the ground.
The whole ballroom turns silent as everyone observes the spectacle in front of them. I'm so dead! Alpha George and Luna Sandra are going to have my head.
I gulp as I finally take my eyes off the ruined suit and trail them up to the person that I just assaulted.
My breath hitches as my eyes come in contact with his. My heart flutters for a second like it's about to stop working then picks back up a second later. A shiver runs down my spine as I hold the cold gaze of the man who's still emitting that sweet scent even though he's now drenched in strong alcohol.
The realization hits me at once and knocks the breath out of me. This man in front of me is my mate. And he's attending this party which means that my mate is an Alpha.
'Mate!' My wolf growls within me and that single word is what sets me off.
I'm moving before I even know it. My feet carry me away from the party. Away from my mate and towards my room in the attic.
As soon as I get to my room, I close the door, press my back against it, and let out a deep breath that I didn't even realize that I was holding.
My inside is in a turmoil. My thoughts are in a hazy and I can't seem to make sense of anything. Why would the Moon goddess give a mere omega an Alpha for a mate?
'Why did you run away from our mate?' Lily, my wolf, asks. 'I want to be with him,' she whines.
How does she not get how screwed we are? All my life, I have held onto the hope of our mate saving us from this misery of life and now our mate happens to be an Alpha. No Alpha will willingly accept an Omega as their Luna. It has never been heard of and it will be foolish to think that our case will be any different.
That means that our dreams have been shattered. We're going to be stuck in this cruel pack forever with no means of escaping.
My feet give up and I slide down the door and land on the hard dirty ground with a thump.
I'm so screwed.
