Chapter Thirteen

 David's Pov

They both got up and followed behind Braiden and I. I know that what we are going to do might hurt my little brother, but I couldn't think about that right now. If she really is his soulmate then this will prove it and she will be allowed to stay. If she isn't then she has to go back with her father to the wolf pack.

When we made it out the door I turned and grabbed Lucious pinning him to the ground. Braiden grabbed Zera and used his wolf's speed, taking off towards the mountains that separate our two races. After Lucious stopped screaming I explained how this was going to work. "You have 24 hours to find her. She will not be able to help you find her at all. If she yells you lose and she goes with her father. You will notice that her scent will disappear not long after you enter the woods leading to the mountains." He finally stopped struggling. I got off of him and helped him to his feet. Keeping a hold of him I finished explaining. "She is with her father and you have to know that he will not hurt her, but this is a test to see if you really are soulmates. If you find her and the moon is high then you will see the lights connecting your souls. If no connection appears you have to let her go. She is safe, just remember that."

As soon as I released him he shifted and ran as fast as his tiger would go. I believe he is right, but at the same time I am sure that the unmated wolves that are loyal to Braiden are looking too. I know that they have the advantage compared to Lucious, given the fact at we weren't allowed to explore that close to the mountain.

Braiden's Pov

Zera is so lite, it's almost like I am not carrying anything. Why is she so small? She is 18 so she shouldn't be this size. She only struggled a little bit at first and now it feels like she is sobbing in my arms. I stopped long enough to try and explain what was happening. "Your male kitten back there is going to try to and find you. If he manages to find you while the moon is high we will see if your souls are connected. If he does not find you and one of my wolves show up and they sense their mate in you then you will come back with me. If that little kitty finds you and he is your true soulmate you get to stay, but if a wolf shows up instead you have to leave. Got it?" I waited for her to shake her head before I went into the rules. "You have to stay calm and quiet, if you scream for him it's over and you go home with me and we will teach you the way of the wolf. Your soul has to call to his otherwise this will not work. Do you understand?" This time she nodded and I started running again.

When we made it to the clearing I set her down on a log. I finally got the chance to look at her. She was the spitting image of her mother. "I'm sure you have questions. Please ask me anything."

She looked at me with fear in her eyes. "What was my mother to you?" She almost whispered.

"Well she was my wife, not my mate but I still loved her. My father didn't really like her at all though. I spent everyday with her until you were conceived. That's when my father put her on bed rest and forbade me from seeing her again. Just to be safe he locked her in a wing that I was never allowed in. The night after you were born that wing collapsed and he told me both mother and child had perished. Two days later however I had heard from David that Oddette had made contact with Maria and you were both alive. That's when I tasked him with finding you both for me. Needless to say my father has lied to everyone including your grandparents." I explained as she sat there and listened.

"How did he lie to them? Didn't he have an army backing him? The streak couldn't go to war so how is it a lie when there were so many wolves backing your father?" She was genuinely curious.

I had to think of how to explain it to her. " Well.... Wolves are essentially dogs in a way and tigers are essentially cats, people think because we are dogs we can bully the cats. would you be willing to shift into your tiger for me?" This is the best way to get my point across.

She shifted and I was amazed at how big her cat was compared to her own size. After I was done staring I shifted. Her cat was much larger than my dog. I approached her and placed my forehead to hers. Third eye to third eye, this helps a parent to make a bridge mind to mind with their child. Now are you getting what I am trying to explain? If not we can fight to see what I mean better.

She shook her massive head and backed away slowly. I know that she could defeat me but she didn't believe that she could, and that is not what I wanted for my child. I wanted her to be strong and confident in her abilities. I didn't mean to show the sadness in my eyes but her tiger picked it up and sat with it's head hung.

I shifted back to my human form and said, "My point was that tigers are bigger hand more powerful when it comes to fighting. You however would be even more powerful than that given that you are a princess of both tiger and wolf. Would you mind trying to shift into your wolf?" I asked that question very tentatively.

She sifted back to her human form and instead of just accepting that she had both spirits inside of her she simply looked at me and asked, "What makes you think that I had inherited anything from you?"

"Your hair. Why isn't it platinum like your mother's was?" I retorted. And she finally decided to give it a try after that. "Just close your eyes and take a deep breath. In your head call out to your wolf."

She started shifting and I couldn't believe my eyes. Her wolf still had the tiger's markings but instead of whit and black she was pale blue and midnight blue. "You have so much power in you and you truly are amazing my little girl." I said in awe. I got a mirror out of my pocket so she could see how amazing she was.

She didn't know that I was just trying to show her what she looked like and she growled at me when I reached for my jacket pocket. When she saw the mirror she stiffened and looked around for the wolf in the mirror like I was tricking her for some reason.
