CHAPTER 20

ASHTER STARR

The next day seemed to drag even more longer. The sound of locker slamming, teacher's lectures, and the murmurs of gossips were even harder to tolerate as I rested my head on the table. I was currently in the library where Jane asked me to come with her. I sighed I stared at the empty spot where Damien once always sat. Jane, Damien, and I used to study before after our classes but that stop when Damien started to disappear constantly show it was always me and Jane. Everything just feels different without his presence at school. When he would disappear for a few days it didn't bother me as much because I knew he would return not long after but now he's been gone for weeks or even months.

I could even tell Jane missed him and the boys. Even though they hardly ever spoke or show a glimpse of interest in whatever Jane is talking about, they are was still that Jane cared about.

I was reading a book, as I was in deep thought about everything. It's obvious I had these intense feelings for Damien, no matter how much I try to deny it or not show it. I thought maybe Leonardo could help and it did for a while but the feeling of missing Damien and the worry of him was way too intense to blindly forget about.

"Hey Ashter are you feeling OK you seemed kinda out of it again" I heard a soft voice of Jane come behind me. I glanced at her and shrugged

"Yeah, I just... I was just thinking some kind of stuff" I vaguely answered as she took a seat next to me in place of the books that she gathered and pile them up to the table.

"Do you want to talk about it? You know you could talk to me right?" she gently asked in a very sweet voice. I debated not to tell her I mean I wanted to tell her but I can't and if I do tell her how could I explain that I was involved with vampires and werewolves, not to mention I have feelings for his best friend...

"Yeah I know, thanks for the kind offer Jane but I rather not talk about it" I kindly declined and she nodded understandingly. I just don't want to bother her. Besides my problems are just gonna cause her more stress.

"Okay but I just want you to know that I'm always here if you need me, I always gonna be all ears for you" she softly smiled and placed her hand over mine. I smiled back at her. It's good to have someone comforting me even though I am not telling them the whole situation that has been going on.

"Thank you jane" I smiled at her appreciatively. Then we continued doing our thing until we waited for the bell to ring.

I just glance at the entrance and I saw Zachary and Claude walking in. I smiled because they listened to my word yesterday, I honestly thought that they wouldn't come, maybe I should have a little faith in them.

I watch them as they slowly walk towards our spot. Jane has no idea that they are here yet because she's too busy reading her book.

When they are behind Jane I gave them smile which Claude returned but Zachary didn't obviously but I don't care because I expected that.

I watch Zachary as he poked Jane's shoulder to get her attention. Jane stop reading and raised her head looking at me confused.

"Why did you poke me?" She furrowed her eyebrows at me, we are actually sitting opposite so she was giving me a weird look at how I poked her, but little did she know.

"Turn around you lunatic" Zachary rolled his eyes, clearly annoyed that Jane haven't figured it out yet. Jane's head snapped at the voice, and I can clearly see her face brighten up.

"Oh my gosh! You guys are here" She exclaimed which made the librarian shush us because she is too loud "Sorry"

"Tone it down a bit" Zachary scolded as they sat beside Jane.

"Oh still Damien is missing", I can see the disappointment on her face then immediately hide it "I'm so glad you guys finally showed up after all these years"

She fake wiped a tear in her cheeks, then she punch both of them in the arms.

"Hey what was that for?" Claude pouted at her.

"That's for ditching me you assholes" Jane glared at them while crossing her arms in her chest. "Now spill what happened to you guys".

"Well uh... I should leave you guys alone for you to catch up, I'll be seeing you later Jane" I waved at her goodbye and blew her a kiss. I looked at Zachary and he gave me a knowing look before I walked to the exit.

The whole day was a drag but I'm glad that it was already the end of the day one final class and I am good to go. I didn't see Jane all day so I guess that they really caught up with her before they left.

I was walking down the hallway when I got bumped with Sophie.

"Ashter!" Sophie exclaimed as she energetically shake my shoulders as a greeting and I let out a small laugh "I felt like I haven't seen you for a while now, how are you?"

"Same we are not seeing each other more often" I responded "I am fine and as usual busier than ever, man I can feel like I could die from the past few days"

"Same girl, anyways we should catch up this Saturday, I have a party arranged you should come" Sophie invited, as we continued walking to my locker.

"Yeah sure I'll be there" I nodded my head. A party would be a great escape and a distraction in my situation as of now.

"Jane told us yesterday that you are not feeling well and you went home early, what happened?" Sophie asked worriedly as we reached my locker, I opened my locker to put my books back and the one last book that I needed for my final class.

"Yeah, I was just out of it yesterday and I felt like passing out every second so I figure out to go home and rest, I'm sorry I didn't tell you guys"

"It's okay we understand though" Sophie waved off "I'm glad to see that you are okay now"

"Yeah me too" I smiled at her. Even though I know to myself that the next days are going to be hard and worse for me.

"Hey Ashy" I snapped my head and saw Leo with some books in his hands.

"Uhmm Sophie right?" He kindly turned his attention to her.

"Yes that's me, it's nice to properly meet you" Sophie smiled and nodded, She took out her hand as Leonardo semi struggled with holding his books in one arm and shook Sophie's with the other.

"Uhhh I guess I should be going now, I didn't mean to intrude in your conversation," He said and he shove his free hand into his pockets. He is nervous again.

"Okay by--"

"Oh no, I was just leaving anyway" Sophie cut me off before she smiled and said goodbye to us.

"I'm really sorry I didn't mean to cut your conversation short" Leo apologized.

"It's fine" I brushed off as we walked through the hallway.

"So have you been feeling well lately?, Don't be mad but I felt like you seem a lot more distant since we met" He commented with a concerned look plastered on his face.

I sighed as I seem to get that question a lot since morning.

"Yeah I am fine" I answered for like a thousand times now.

"Well I hope you will feel better, someone like you shouldn't have that frown all the time because you have a beautiful smile" He complimented and I let out a chuckle.

"Yeah, thanks" I awkwardly thanked him.

"Did you get my message last night?" He asked as he felt how awkward I got.

"s**t" I was too busy staying up last night and taking care of Damien that I didn't have time to check my phone "No I am sorry I didn't, what was your message though?"

"It's okay, I was just wondering if you would be up if I for a practice today since you missed two days" He shyly asked as he scratched the back of his neck.

"Uhmm maybe, I'll see" I was unsure of how to answer but that was the best answer I could give him.

"Just let me know before school ends" He shrugged and I nodded

"Yeah" I tried my best to act excited. I didn't mean to be rude I just had too much on my mind.

The be rung indicating we had less than a minute to get to class.

"Well, I will see you later then," He said as he send me a small wave before he walked down the hallway to his class.

I groaned as I made my way inside my classroom.

These days feel longer than usual.

I really hate you fate.

I slammed my locker close and immediately run through the main door and hurriedly made my way outside the parking lot. Zachary texted me from an unknown number to get home quickly. So here I am.

Man, I have to make another excuse to coach, I really feel bad because I haven't been training two days straight and we have a tournament next week.

"Wait Ashy!"

"s**t" I muttered to myself before turning around to see Leo trying to catch up with me

"I thought you said you would let me know before the school ended" He breathed out heavily.

"I know, but I really need to go home, so I can't. I'm sorry" I answered hastily as I made my way to the car.

"But we need to practice, we haven't even finished the whole script yet, we are just in the middle if we don't practice we are going to have a hard time" He urgently said while grabbing my arm.

"I said I can't! I got more important things to do than that stupid play!" I snapped at him causing him to flinch back. I slightly regretted it when I saw a look of hurt that was plastered across his face.

"I just can't, please understand" I lastly said before I left him and sped to my house as fast as I could.

"Zachary?!" I called out as soon as I stepped inside my house then suddenly someone grabbed my arms and pulled me out of the house just as I got in.

"What the freak?!" I exclaimed as I turned around to see Zachary.

"Hurry we need to get to school" Zachary ordered. I yanked my arm back and looked at him furiously.

"What the heck?!! I was just at school you could have just texted me to wait there instead of making me almost see heaven trying to get here as fast as I could" I threw my hands in the air as I can't believe I did all of that for nothing.

"Well I didn't have my car and I don't want to run that far so I had to call you" He shrugged

"Now stop complaining, we don't have much time" He firmly said before he entered my car and waited for me. I let out a scream of frustration before entering my car and slamming the door shut before starting the car.

"You are so full of s**t you know" I muttered as I started to drive. This time I'm driving at a normal speed. "Why do we need to go to school anyway? Where is Damien? Is he okay?"

"Gosh you are so annoying did I ever tell you that?" He rolled his eyes. And I send him a glare.

"We are going to school because we need to pick someone up and as for Damien he is still resting in your bed" He answered in a monotone voice.

"Nice I clearly understand that thanks" I sarcastically replied. These boys I swear, are never going to give me good answers, I have to always put the puzzle together which is bullcrap.

"God I didn't know you could be a b***h, I don't like your attitude right now so please tone it down a notch"

"Well, I'm glad that we have mutual feelings then" I sassily said before shutting my mouth. Because I clearly don't want to see him in his angry state.

Finally, after a few minutes of the uncomfortable silence, we arrived back at school and got out.

"If you are going to come inside I won't be going with you because I'll be dead if my coach sees me," I told him.

"We are not going inside, so you don't have to worry about that, she is coming to us anyway I texted her to meet us in the parking lot"

"She? Who the heck are we picking up?" I asked as I give him a puzzled face.

"Are you going you tell me who is that?" I asked, hoping that he would answer.

"You will see later, I know you you have seen her and been with her before" He simply answered me which made me frown because it's not the answer that I want.

Why couldn't he just tell me?

"Ugh I'm getting tired of these games" I muttered to myself not letting him hear but he did because he send me a death glare.

"So... This is the girl" I heard a female voice come from behind us.

"Jesus Christ!" I squealed because I didn't even notice there is someone there. We are expecting her to come out at the main door.

I turned around to see who was and my jaw dropped when I see who it was.

"Ahh, there you are Sima I thought you are going to ditch us for a second" Zachary spoke and gave a small wave to the girl.

"Of course you know me I'll do anything for Damien," She said then she turn around to me.

"Hey Ashter" She smirked at me. I just froze in my spot seeing my new teammate right in front of me.
