They Are Not Ordinary

CHAPTER 12

ASHTER STARR

When Damien and I reached the school I got out first before him because he told me he didn't want people to suspect us. I was confused at him at first but I still followed his instruction.

As soon as we step into the school grounds we separated ways.

"Sophie!" I called I spotted her making her way up the stairs.

"Hey girl, It's like I haven't seen you these days what are you up to?" she asked holding the door for me.

"I was kind of busy I'm sorry if you guys want we can hang together later since it's Friday?" I apologized.

"It's okay you don't have to say sorry but you have to make it up for us" she pointed at me sternly.

"I will promise" I smiled as we made our way to her locker. I didn't really need to get anything because I've already done my homework last Wednesday.

When we got in Sophie's locker Aliana was already there

"Hey nerds!" She greeted us with a bright smile.

"Hey, miss president" I smiled back at her making her chuckle for a bit. "Wow, it's weird meeting you at Sophie's locker instead of mine,"

"Yeah, it's kinda weird" Sophie agreed as she transferred her things in her backpack.

Lunch was alright and we all sat sitting at our usual lunch table laughing amongst each other. I had caught sight of Damien as he walked outside. It was pretty chilly so no one even went outside.

"I'll be right back," I said as I got up before they could ask. I followed him out and saw him sitting by a big tree on the hill. I smiled and made my way to him. I stood beside him as I wrapped my arms around me, feeling the chilly air.

"Mind if I join you?" I asked. He looked up at me and nodded. I situated myself right alongside him and we just sat there in silence.

"You are a lot quieter today." I note. he shrugged "Come on talk to me, we can talk to each other just like yesterday"

"Are you sad?" I asked him again and he shooked his head, he still didn't say anything "Do vampires even get sad?"

"Yes of course..." He sighed " I also have feelings and qualities like you humans. I can laugh, smile, cry and get hurt. It's really hard sometimes being who I am. It's not that easy to control my anger or my thirst" He muttered as he played with his fingers absentmindedly "I am just super tired"

"Tired of what?"

"Everything. School and life in general, it's hard to connect with people especially me being a freak. I don't have many people to who I can talk too. It gets really lonely sometimes especially now Zachary and Claude are mad at me so yeah I don't have anyone" He sighed again as he threw a pebble that he picked up from the dirt out of nowhere.

"Hey, look at me," I asked, moving more forward so he could. He hesitantly did and finally met my eyes. "I'm here for you alright? I know that sounds over said but I am. I know we only truly met and talked yesterday but I still care about you okay? Whatever you are you deserve the care and love in this whole universe. I don't really care what they call you I still would be here for you and Whatever are you are going through I'll always be right here" I truthfully said to him while looking at her with full sincerity. I can feel my heart pound from the speech I did. I was so nervous.

His eyes softened and something flashed in them but he quickly turned away before I could tell.

"I...I gotta go" He suddenly got up before I could even say anything. in just seconds he was gone.

He just left me sitting in there.

"Ashter..."

"Hey, Ashter...?"

"Hello is someone there?..."

"Earth to Ashter!!"

"Wha... what?" I jolted my head. I looked around puzzled as to where I was.

"Ashter, what the hell?" I turned around to see Jane with a confused face

"What happened to you?, you blank out there for a second" She cautiously looked at me. I look around and realized that we are in the library.

I opened my mouth to explain to her but close it instead. What the hell happened?... All I can remember is when Damien and I are sitting under a tree talking and stuff before he left me and just disappeared. I don't even remember coming back to lunch or for that matter ending up in the library.

"What time is it?" I asked still confused because if we are in the library it means that my subjects are finished already.

"It's 2:30 pm" My jaw dropped because I remember it was only 11 am I swear. then Jane spoke, "Don't you remember we finished class like 30 minutes ago?" She asked and I shooked my head.

"You are completely zoned out the whole day, to be honest with you..." She said with a worried tone laced on her voice 'That started in lunch, we were talking and laughing then out of a sudden you just stopped responding and stuff"

"What? I don't remember that?..." I told her honestly.

"That's weird, but you are weirder because after lunch when we all got up to go in our class, you just got up without saying anything nor blinking it's like you are a freaking walking statue. don't be mad but you kinda freak me out earlier" She whispered because the librarian threw her a death glare. I felt chills run down my spine in Jane's story... I mean what the hell happened? I couldn't really remember what happened this day... It's kinda freaking me out.

I am freaked out by my own self.

"I... uhh... I just.... got a lot on my mind today, sorry though for freaking you out" I apologized even though that isn't the real reason. I wasn't even sure how to respond without sounding confusing.

"Are you sure you are alright?" She turned towards me with a concerned expression.

"Uhmm... yeah I'm fine, thanks Jane" I ran my hand through my hair as the questions flooded my mind again.

We continued reading and answering our homework until it's three. we gathered all of our stuffs before we walk out of the library and say goodbyes to each other.

"Are you sure you can handle your training today?" Jane asked

"Yes, I am sure," I told her

"I really hope you get better and remember that we're here if you need us" Jane gave a reassuring squeeze on my shoulder before she hugged me.

"I will thank you so much, Jane"

"No problem, you know me I will always be here for you" She blew me a kiss "Anyways I got to go bye bye b***h goodluck"

I let out a small laugh before making my way to my locker to get my training stuffs.

"Girls gather around here" Coach Jeffrey shouted, and all of us followed his command obediently.

"So since our tournament is going to start next month, we're going to have a training every 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm, for me, it's not enough time for our training but it's okay. I want all of you to focus on your studies, Don't make our training an excuse if you didn't answer some assignments it's your responsibility you still have enough time to answer your assignment when you got home, I'll give a form to your parents to inform them that you will be going home late for the next few weeks. I don't want to see you all having a failing grade huh? Balance the sports and academics okay? If someone fails I will immediately remove you from the team even if you are the best player here" Coach Jeffrey said eyeing every player earnestly.

"Yes coach," We all said in unison

"Okay here's the form, give this to your parents and let them sign it, return this form tomorrow and we will start training at that time tomorrow," Coach Jeffrey said as he gave us each player an orange form.

"Damn it, our 6:00 pm training we are already having a hard time answering our homework, but today it change at 8:pm I don't know anymore" Jessica ranted at me. Jessica is my super close friend on the volleyball team, although all of us are close to each other because we are a team of course but Jessica is the one I can talk to. She and I have the same vibes.

"I know right" I huffed as I heard other players complained too.

"Well let's start digging our graves now Ashter," She said as I burst out laughing. we stopped when the coach started speaking again.

After he explains everything about our tournament we formed a line, then there is an unfamiliar face I think she's the new player I guess, I watched her intently as she goes to the front at the side of our coach.

"Well players I know it's a little too late but we have a new player here and your name is?" He asked

"My name is Maxima banks" A tall blonde girl spoke, she had this fierce aura and she was as pale as Damien which was weird but I shrugged it off and continued watching her. "And you can call me Sima or Max"

"Well, welcome to the team Maxima!" Coach hugged her

"Welcome, Max!" My teammates and I greeted her warmly and waved at her.

She smiles and waves at us then she came back to her line next to our captain ball and started talking and laughing, I think they already know each other. I shake my head, then focus on what the coach is saying.

"Okay, folks let's start warming up, do 50 push ups, 100 sit ups! Get a partner Quick! Then start doing your warm ups!"

"it's going to be a tough day, " I groan

Thank god our training is finally finished I honestly thought that the coach will never make us leave.

I walked to the shower room to change into some clothes. I saw the other girls are taking a bath already and started throwing water and soap at each other. I just laughed at the sight and continued doing my thing.

"How come you never wash with us Ashter?" Our captain ball Nicole called for me "Come join us it's fun"

"I don't have extra undies" I shrugged. I really don't want to shower with a lot of people. It's not that I am shy to let them see my body. I just rather go home and wash in my own bathroom where I am comfortable.

"I have extra undies we can share" Nicole chuckled as she continue to rub our teammates back.

"Eww gross" I jokingly said making them laughed.

Then suddenly I was taken aback when a naked Jessica hugged me from behind.

"What the heck Jessica!!" I exclaimed as I wriggled out of her hold. She let go and started laughing at me. "My clothes are now wet! damn it!"

I was about to throw her a bucket filled with water but she begged for me to stop. So I did.

"I am kidding I was just teasing you" Jessica raised her palm up defensively.

"What a jerk" I playfully smack her in the arms before continued to dress myself up.

After a few minutes, I finished and said goodbye to all my teammates who are finishing showering too.

"Bye Jessica" I waved at her before leaving the gym. I was walking down the hallway when I bumped into someone making me stumble to the ground

"Oh I'm very sorry" The voice apologized, I raised my head up to see who was it, it was a guy with curly hair and a cute smile with dimples. He stretched out his hand and I took it so I could get up quickly. I dusted my but off before facing him again.

"Hey, I know you, it's Ashter right?"

"Uhmm yeah" I replied confused. I don't really even know this guy exist until now so how did he know my name?

"Oh sorry I should introduce myself, I'm Leonardo, Leonardo reed" He gave me a cheeky smile as he extended his hand out for me.

I hesitantly shook his hand

"I'm Ashter, Ashter Starr" I greeted back even though he already knew my name. I am still confused about who the heck is this boy.

"You're probably confused as to how I know you" He chuckled lighten up the mood "You are the new girl so I heard a lot about you and you are quite famous here because we don't really get new students and Jane told me about you."

"Cool. well, it's nice to meet you, I'm sorry it's a little bit late so I got to go home" I pointed to the main door. Jane? what the heck did Jane do now. I am going to ask her tomorrow then.

I can see the disappointment on his face but he immediately hide it and gave me a sweet smile.

"Yeah okay sorry, I don't want to hold you a little longer, so yeah it's nice to meet you too Ashter, I'm hoping to see you again tomorrow?" He half asked/half said. He was really nice and okay, not to mention cute, so I smiled nicely at him.

"Yeah sure I will see you" I waved at him before finally leaving the school to go home and rest. Or should I say to go home and to my piled up homework's damn it.

I am really confused about what happened in today's events especially Damien, but I decided to let that slip in my mind and focused on my priorities.
