Chapter 8

With the imminent threat the guild master had wasted no effort in allowing me to access the tomes and scrolls that the guild offered. I had been given robes that were far too long for me. Seth and Caremila had both received leather armour. They gave Seth a claymore while Caremila received a rapier and a small shield. I quickly glanced through the books upon the desk as Caremila sat beside me. Seth had headed out towards the front, along with the adventurer’s guild and the town guard. What sort of enemy was the Whistling Wolf, I wondered as I thought about what they said. More than one of them and capable of mass disarmament An archer for sure, but what type were they and how many people. Maybe it was a ranger with a wolf companion, but to disarm essentially an army did they also have A Favoured Enemy. I recited the passive spells from the book that the guild master deemed as the greatest. See Invisibility I. Hearing Distance Steps. Protection from Fear. Protection from Arrows I. “Aren’t we going to leave to and see what’s going on outside?” Caremila asked. “Yes, we can leave now. Bring these books and those scrolls and those magical potions in case I runout of magic.” Caremila placed them in a bag, and transferred  it onto her back. We both rushed outside to find a ghost town. All the windows were barred, and no one was on the streets. “Which direction did Seth and Maracar go?” I asked her. “I don’t know weren’t you listening.” Ah, I looked in both directions before picking one and running that way. If the whistling wolf were coming to take the town, eventually I would butt into them. We hurried in the direction, coming to a halt outside the entrance of the town. All the guards here lay on the ground wiggling, tied and bounded. Behind me, I heard footsteps approaching before a whistle broke through the air. An arrow stroke me but was negated by the Protection By Arrow I. It however still knocked the weapon out of Caremila hand as Caremila went to grab the weapon, another arrow landed between her and the blade. “A strong one for once and you look kind of cute,” her voice didn’t sound common to the area. “What! He is already taken!” Caremila shouted.  My ears turned to where the voice came from atop the roof with See Invisibility I. I could see the female figure of the person crouched upon it looking down at me. I pointed my hand towards the figure Poison Arrow. The figure nimbly dodged and moved to the next roof while firing two arrows towards me from her bow. “You can see me and a mage.” The arrows flickered passed me and again kept Caremila pinned in place. I had to be efficient with my magic and I couldn’t burn the complete town down, yet. Perhaps using the scrolls now would be best I turned to grab some from Caremila but a growl behind my back caught my attention. A spectre wolf stared me in my eye but before I could lift my hands to it I felt a pain in my back as my body crashed to the ground. “Reno!” Caremila shouted as the wolf snarled. “Reno,” the voice replied, that’s a name I have heard quite recently as the Whistling Wolf turned me around. I tried to cast a spell, but in the struggle it knocked her mask to a side. It revealed a beautiful female face with porcelain skin that greeted mine.
