7. No omega Luna

Nathaniel’s POV

My father and I immediately started mindlinking our warriors, instructing them where and how to help. 

“Gabriella, please stay inside!”, I begged her, knowing it was a lost battle.

“You know me better than that, Nate. We fight next to each other, not for each other” She pecked my lips and we hurried outside.

The view in front of us was horrific. The rogues were countless and it seemed like we were outnumbered. I saw a few dead bodies of our warriors, some badly injured. Gabriella, me, my father and his betta were running to the battle when a black shadow passed through us and I saw everything happening in slow motion.

My father fell on the ground holding his throat, blood oozing from it. I felt a sharp pain in my heart and all the warriors howled in pain. I rushed to my father screaming for him, holding his lifeless body in my hands. I looked around and saw all the warriors gathered around us, bowing their heads. Daniel came rushing, he kneeled next to me and put a hand on my shoulder.

Gabriella and Cary came and instructed a few warriors on how to take care of the dead and wounded and led me and my brother to the Alpha’s office. As soon as we got inside me and my brother lost it and started crying over the loss of our only parent. I felt Gabriella running circles on my back. I turned around and hugged her tight and continued sobbing on her shoulder. Danny was crying in Cary’s arms.

I don’t know how much time has passed but when I lifted my head to look out the window, the sun was already rising. I moved to sit on the sofa and I pulled Gabriella to sit in my lap. I needed her closer, I needed her scent.

“We are in this together, brother. Our pack needs you but we will be behind you every step of the way. We are family”, Danny said. His eyes red from crying, his face sad, but I could see his brotherly love and support for me.

“What happened with the battle?” I asked, remembering it looked like we were on the losing side but after the shadow everything seemed to stop.

“A big shadow passed over us for like a few seconds and then we all felt dad’s death. The shadow disappeared and so did all the rogues.” Danny said. His eyes glazed for a moment indicating he was mindlinking.

“We lost 12 warriors and dad, 9 warriors are in a coma but stable, 11 are being held for observation but are healing normally and 23 were released after tending to their wounds and should be almost fully healed by now.” Danny reported, I nodded. Then he turned to Cary.

“Cary, I am sorry but your father was found killed near the border. No one has seen how and what happened.”

“I know, I felt his loss when we came into the office. I mourned for him in your arms” she gave my brother a small smile. “We weren’t very close but his loss still hurts. I guess we are now all orphans” she tried to joke and we all gave small smiles.

“We need to call the werewolf council to arrange your initiation as soon as possible. The pack is scared and needs their leader.” Gabriella said.

“We will  do your initiation the same day, Gabriella, we need a Luna also” I said and she nodded.

“I know now is not the best time, guys, but congrats on finally mating and marking. I am really happy for you!” Cary said.

“Thanks” I replied and looked into Gabriella's eyes and smiled. As long as I have her by my side we will be fine. 

“Guys, I am really confused about what exactly happened last night. We have had the occasional rogues but not this many and this strong. If they didn’t disappear we would all be dead.” Cary said.

“Must have something to do with what my father told us yesterday before the battle” I explained the conversation we had with dad yesterday and Gabriella told the mythology part again.

None of us was able to connect the two but we all had the feeling that there must be a connection.

I was about to dismiss everyone and go get some rest when the phone in the office rang. We all gathered around the desk, I answered the call and put it on speaker.

“Hello?”

“Hello, Alpha Nathaniel?” a male voice asked.

“Yes. Who is this?” I asked suspiciously .

“Alpha, I am an elder from the werewolf council. I must request an immediate meeting with you!” the man said urgently.

“Alright, I can meet you in two days. I was also about to request an elder’s presence to perform my initiation. My father was killed last night in a rogue attack”, I replied with no emotion.

“Yes, I am aware of your father’s unfortunate death, please accept my deepest condolences. But I am afraid our meeting can’t wait that long. We need to talk now” his desperation made me feel uneasy and I could see the others in the room felt the same. I looked at them silently asking them what to do and they all nodded.

“Alright then. When can we expect you?”

“I will be in your office in 2 minutes” he said and hung up.

We all looked at each other confused but moved to sit on the sofa and the armchairs around the coffee table. This time I sat in an armchair with Gabriella on my lap and Cary and Danny sat on the sofa. 

A couple of minutes later a tall man dressed in a long robe and hood over his head appeared in the office. Danny and I immediately jumped up, ready to attack but he spoke first.

“Alpha Nathaniel, I am the elder you just spoke to on the phone”

“I didn’t know elders could teleport.” I said, sitting back down in the armchair, pulling Gabriella with me.

His face was hidden; we could only see his hands covered with tattoos. No one knew who the elders were, no one knew their names or had seen their faces. No one knew how one can become an elder. All we knew was that they are werewolves.

“My apologies, Alpha. I am afraid we don’t have much time for small talk. We need to speak in private” he said.

“I thrust this group with my life. This is my mate, Gabriella, my brother Daniel and our betta’s daughter, Carolina. They will stay” I said, not leaving room for negotiations or objections.

“Is Gabriella your fated or chosen mate?” he asked, disapproval evident in his voice. 

“Fated. We are already marked and mated” I replied flatly, not liking his tone. The elder cleared his throat.

“Alpha Nathaniel, I am here regarding the attack that happened last night. I am aware that before the battle your father shared with you that he was a part of a special team force.” we all nodded.

“I am their leader or to be more correct - I was. Everyone from that team is dead. All of them were killed at the same time and the same way.” 

“How do you know that” I interrupted him.

“Every member of that team was connected to me, something like a pack link. I also have some abilities that allow me to share their vision in times of danger so I can guide them. And before you ask - yes, we communicated through mindlink which had no range and could not be shut neither willingly, nor with poison like wolfsbane, silver or potions. So I saw all of their deaths the moment they all happened.

I cannot tell you what our last mission was but I am positive that it was successful. However, instead of keeping the balance, it caused the opposite effect. Something bad is happening and I don't know what. Selene is gone and the shifters are in chaos. You need to take your leadership as soon as possible and announce a Luna or the chaos that is uprising will consume your pak and will lead to many deaths.

I am not a member of the shifters council. I belong to the supernatural council. Shifter elders are all dead, I am the only one alive. The supernatural council is working on a plan to hide the fact that the elders are dead from the shifters society to avoid more chaos, but it will not be easy. Training new elders takes time and the magical world is distressed.”

“Me and my Luna are ready” I said determined

“You can’t have an omega Luna. Not now. You must take a stronger blooded luna.” he said and I roared.

“No other she-wolf will be my Luna. She is my fated mate and we are stronger together” Atlas seethed and buried his head in the nape of Gabriella’s neck. She played with my hair trying to soothe me but I could feel her fear and distress through our mate bond.

“Please calm down, Alpha. My suggestion is not out of prejudice. I am sure your mate is strong and intelligent, but in this case the blood is what matters right now. Selene is missing and the werewolves are in chaos. Your fated mate will be in more danger by your side and this will bring danger to you and your pack. I cannot reveal more information but if you take Gabriella as your Luna, your pack and many other lives will be doomed. The Blue Moon Pack’s leaders must be og alpha male blood and at least betta female luna. Our future is in your hands. I will be back tomorrow morning” He stood up and disappeared.
