Chapter 2 Nothing is under my control

1705 Words
Daisy's POV The day of Margaret's wedding finally came. As a slave of Grey Pack, I was not allowed to enter the wedding ceremony. It was my first day at Brown Pack, so I wouldn't even be allowed out of the room, maybe because I was not their "own member" yet. After Margaret's wedding and when she became the real Luna queen, I was allowed to live like the other maids in Brown Pack. I could imagine Margaret strolling into the auditorium to the wedding accompanied by music, with the longing for love. She stood in the middle of the hall, bouquet in hand, waiting quietly for her Alpha King. Thinking that Margaret would live the life she wanted, I felt happy from the bottom of my heart. The moon was like a teardrop tonight, bright but hazy. The shining moonlight reminded me that I had fallen asleep just now. My wolf was crying again in my dream, and I could see how helpless she was. I opened the window, feeling the breeze in Brown Pack. Compared with Grey Pack, Brown Pack was much quieter at night. I closed my eyes, crossed my arms, and made a wish to the moon, "My Goddess, please let me meet my grandma again. Also, I hope Margaret can live a happy life with her husband. And my last wish, in three days, the full moon night will come. Can I see my wolf? The real wolf. Ah, my goddess, am I too greedy? It seemed that I asked for many things. But I hope Stella accompanies me not only in my dream..." Oh, my love is like a red, red rose, That's newly sprung in June. Oh, my love is like a melody, That's sweetly played in tune. Someone in the pack was singing the song my grandma had been singing to me! I opened my eyes and stumbled out. He must have a story in this song, just like me, I thought. The Brown Pack was too big to find someone. It was many times bigger than the Grey Pack. I ran in the direction where the song came. The moon goddess heard my request, and my prayer was going to be answered. As far as you, my bonnie lass, So deep in love am I; And I will love you still, my dear, Till all the seas gone dry. I sang this song loudly with him, hoping he could hear someone's response. But at that moment, the song came to a screeching halt. Like a kite with a broken string, I stood there, gasping for air, not knowing where I was going. "Oh, my moon goddess, please guide me. Is there a soul who's waiting for salvation just like me?" Once again, I looked up at the moon. It was beautiful. "My poor child, don't be afraid. Mommy is here." A woman's voice burst into my world. The woman in tattered clothes was holding a rag doll in her arms. As she walked, she murmured those words. Instinctively, I ducked. She gave me a creepy feeling. I instantly felt a chill coming on. My efforts were destined to be in vain tonight. I'd better go back to my room. I was not allowed to leave my room today after all. I tried to return along the way I came, but I didn't remember since I rushed out by the song. Gosh! It seemed that I could not go back tonight. The only way was to ask directions when someone woke up during the day. I walked in the palace doorway, leaning against the pillar outside the palace. The autumn evening began to be cold, which made me tighten my jacket. I had thought my life would start over when I came to the new pack, but it was like I was fooled by God again, whatever nothing was more important than sleeping at this moment. Brown Pack, good night. Wish me a sweet dream. The next day, I was awakened by the sound of crows cawing. I rubbed my eyes to check where I was. The red rampart reminded me that I got lost last night. Fine, nothing was wrong during my "sleepover." It seemed that Brown pack's night wind was not my match, which gave me a peaceful outdoor sleep. I stretched, and something slipped off me. After I picked it up, I found it was a male jacket. Suddenly I realized that I didn't wake up from the cold last night because someone had put a coat on me. I touched this coat, soft and warm. I buried my face in this coat, thinking this was probably one of the numbered kindnesses I've received in my 20 years of life. I asked a servant where the maids' accommodation was, and I carried this coat back to my room. Although what I had experienced last night was full of my mind, I still remembered Margaret's first day to be a real queen. I should see her and accompany her and... share with her about my special night. "Margaret?" I carefully poked my head into Margaret's palace. Making sure there were only a few busy servants inside the palace and no other people of high status, I slowly walked in. "Margaret..." It was now noon, and following the Brown Pack's etiquette, there was no way Margaret hadn't gotten up yet. I took a deep breath and tried knocking on the door to her room. Before my knuckle fell, Margaret opened the door. "Daisy, good morning... Oh no, to be precise, it should be 'good noon.'" Margaret said to me, lost in thought. In front of me were a pale face and a limp body. "Margaret, are you okay?" I noticed that something must be wrong with Margret. "Daisy, can you walk with me to the garden?" I knew that there was no way I could object to Margaret because I didn't want to upset her, even though I knew that I was expected to prepare lunch. "Yesterday I... didn't see Alexander, the Alpha King," Margaret said to me as she sat on the swing in the garden, slowly swaying. "What? It was your wedding yesterday. How come he didn't show up?" I couldn't believe what she was saying. I pushed her gently behind her to get the swing. "Yes, everyone saw how embarrassed I was at the wedding yesterday. On the wedding day, my husband didn't show up. I waited there alone for four hours foolishly, and I ended up waiting for nothing." Margaret didn't give me a chance to interject and continued her story, "I heard from Alexander's servant that he's always like this. It's not easy to see him in the palace. Brothels and casinos are his favorites, so marriage is nothing to him at all, I guess. Everyone knows that the king needs marriage to steady his power, but nobody knows that the power may destroy the marriage." Margaret stared at the rope of the swing, "Born with a dead mother, being treated worse than a slave as a princess, and marrying a licentious husband... Maybe what they are saying is right—I was cursed from when I was born." I thought our life would be better in a new pack, but it seemed the life in Brown Pack might be worse. "Brown Pack must conceal some dirty secrets. Last night, I came out for air and saw a creepy woman holding a rag doll and chanting as she walked. What a weird scene. And their Alpha king, as what you say, is a man irresponsible. This pack is really like Pandora's box, waiting for us to open. "Remembering what I saw last night, I could help but shiver. Not knowing what to say, I casually asked, "So... Do you regret coming to Brown Pack?" "Do I regret it? Do I regret it?" Margaret murmured as if she was also asking herself, "I don't regret it. I want power and respect. I must be the queen, the queen." After leaving Margaret's palace, I wanted some fresh air to clear my mind. I had just arrived at Brown Pack, but I had been through so much. Unlike the cold wind last night, the wind blew warmly this afternoon. Soothing and sweet, the wind gently blew my hair. With such comfort, I walked along the river. I was in Brown Pack for no longer than two days, but what I experienced and felt implied that I was a veteran here. I laughed to myself while I almost slipped into the river. Damn it, and even the river liked playing jokes with me. I picked up rubble and threw it into the river with all my strength. "Grandma! Where are you? Freedom, where are you? Holy Mary, could you please tell me where my happiness is?" I shouted at the top of my lungs. When I stopped shouting, I heard there was still a loud sound. Is that my echo? No, listening for a while, I was sure someone was fighting around here. Scarceness should have filled my heart, but a strong power appealed to me to get closer, though I knew it was dangerous ahead. About five men surrounded a warrior. The warrior held a sword in his right hand and wielded it sharply with ease. Those five men looked entirely out of his league. They just had more members. Five attacked one? What kind of heroes were they? I thought. One of them was knocked to the ground by this warrior, and the remaining four were all bleeding. The victory was closer to this warrior. At that moment, a man suddenly attempted to attack him from his behind, and he seemed to feel the force behind him. Unexpectedly, the warrior transformed into a wolf and bit that man's left arm with a deadly grip. At the same time, an infinite force erupted beside him, and everything around him was shuddering. I was pushed to the ground by this force. The world slowly faded before my eyes as well as my memory, as I gradually closed my eyes. Before I completely lost consciousness, the only thing I remembered was the warrior slowly approaching me.
