CHAPTER 13

 HEIGHTENED SENSE 

Layla’s POV

It’s been a couple of days since I’ve been home 

And I can’t stop thinking about Liam.

I haven’t seen or heard from him since that night at my parent’s house.

I still haven’t told Lena and CJ what I’ve learned about our 

family history I need more time to think about how I’m going to tell them.

Layla: (Thinking) If Liam was here, he could help me try to explain whatever the hell it is that’s going on with us.

Later that day Liam shows up at Layla’s office to pick her up from work

Alpha Liam: Hey are you busy today?

Layla: Uhm hey what are you doing here?

Alpha Liam: Well it’s been a few days since we last spoke and I thought I’d drop by and see if you wanted to go and have dinner with me.

Layla: To be honest I was just thinking about how I’m going to tell the kids what’s been going on and about us. I was wondering if you could help?

Alpha Liam: Of course, I’ll help. I told you I would.

Layla: I know but I thought I could do it on myself and I obviously can’t.

Alpha Liam: well then, I’m glad I came then. Have dinner with me we can talk some more about how to approach this with the kids.

Layla: OK

Layla leaves with Liam 

They arrive at his packhouse.

Layla: I thought we were going somewhere to eat you didn’t say you were bringing me back to your packhouse.

Alpha Liam: Actually, I had a little something prepared for us. So, we can enjoy a meal and talk without any distractions.

Layla: Liam what exactly do you have planned?

Liam smirks as his eyes darken and roam over Layla’s body

Alpha Liam: I want to talk to you about the MATE BOND. 

Layla’s POV 

Liam touches my mark and I feel the heat of his touch reach my 

Stomach and a pool begins to form between my legs

His eyes darken and he comes even closer inhaling my scent.

Liam’s POV 

Goddess give me strength not to take her right here and now 

I can smell her arousal I know she wants it as much as I do  

If not more how does she have so much restraint.

Layla: (Panting) Liam talk no touching 

Alpha Liam: (Smirks) I’ll try

Layla: I’m serious Liam

Alpha Liam: Ok but first how do you do it?

Layla: Do what?

Alpha Liam: How do you have so much restraint it’s taking everything in me not to take you right here right now.

Layla: I honestly don’t know but it’s not easy hence why I said no touching 

Alpha Liam: OK 

Liam grabs Layla’s hand and leads her to the back of the house near the lake. 

Layla’s POV 

Liam is so stubborn I told him no touching because he knows his touch affects me. He leads me to a canopy that is set up behind his house near the lake he has beautiful flowers, And candles lit on the table with a bottle of red wine sitting on ice.

Layla: Wow this is unexpected what’s all this for.

Alpha Liam: this is all for you.

Liam gets down on a knee in front of me with my hand in his. 

Layla: Uhm Liam what are…

Alpha Liam: Layla I’m sorry for not doing this before I marked you. And I want you to know you do have a choice  

Layla: Uhm Liam I…

Liam interrupts

Alpha Liam: Let me finish. I didn’t give you the option to accept me as your mate before I marked you. So, since our Mate Bond isn’t complete you have a choice. Will you Layla accept me as I am and as your Mate? But before you answer just know if you choose not to, I’ll understand, and I will still help you with whatever you may need.

I look at Liam in shock at least he’s not proposing marriage.

Layla: If I say yes What happens? What does that mean? 

Alpha Liam: That means I’ll be the happiest Man and Wolf in existence but for you, it will be kind of like marriage but better you might become a wolf you might not. 

                  Ok I take it back he is proposing Ok officially freaking out 

Layla: Uhm Liam I-I don’t know this is too soon, I need to think, This is a lot.

Alpha Liam: Of course. I understand just know you do have a choice.

Layla: Thank you.  I just need more time to get to know you better and understand what it is I’m getting myself into.

Alpha Liam: Sounds like a plan. How about we start right now.

We both sit at the table and talk for a while getting to know more about each other’s likes and dislikes. A little while later a scent of Bison meat and grilled veggies hits my nose then a waiter comes towards us with two plates of extra-thick Bison ribeye steaks with grilled vegetables and fills our glasses with wine.

Alpha Liam: I hope you don’t mind I ordered this for us. 

Layla: (Smiles) No not at all I love steak especially Bison steak.

Liam look at me with a raised brow. 

Alpha Liam: How did you know it was Bison?

Layla: I do have a nose you know. 

Alpha Liam: (Laughs) It’s just you didn’t taste it yet and humans can’t tell till they taste the meat. 

Layla: So, what does that have to do with me? Remember I’m not entirely human it might be one of my abilities.

Alpha Liam: how long have you had a heightened sense of smell?

Layla: what do you mean? Just because I can smell that this is Bison really?

Alpha Liam: It’s just not even us wolves can smell the difference unless they’re a tracker or …

Just as Liam is going to finish his sentence, he goes pale.

Layla: Liam, Liam. Hey, are you ok? You’re looking a bit pale. Did you see a ghost? 

Alpha Liam: Uhm yea sorry just got lost in thought. Let’s eat.

Layla: ok good because I’m starving. You sure you’re ok you really don’t look so good.

Alpha Liam: really, I’m fine the wine is hitting me already. 

Layla: (Laughs) Yeah sure if I remember correctly, you’re not a lightweight unless you just can’t handle wine?

Alpha Liam: (laughs) I guess so I never could handle wine.

Layla: (Laughs) So why do you have a bar?

Alpha Liam: Because I like whiskey and bourbon. And in my bar, I don’t have to have wine.

Layla: well then, no more wine for you. 

Alpha Liam: That’s fine with me but what about you? Why haven’t you touched your wine?

Layla: (Laughs) Well that’s because the last time I drank with you we ended up in bed.

Alpha Liam: (Laughs) Oh yeah that’s right, Well how about we try that again but without the alcohol.

I bite my lip just thinking about our last time together and a shiver runs down my spine, And heat pools between my legs. Shaking the thoughts from my head.

Layla: (flushed) Uhm how about we finish our meal.

Alpha Liam: (Smirks) As you wish.

Layla: Thank you.

Liam’s POV

Could she be pregnant is it even possible at her age. What am I saying, of course, it’s possible at her age. Maybe it is just one of her abilities and I’m just noticing it now. After dinner, I drove Layla home.

Alpha Liam: Layla can I see you again this weekend? Maybe we can have the talk with CJ and Lena too?

Layla: Yes, I’d like that. See you Friday then.

Alpha Liam: Yeah, see you then it’s a date.

Liam kisses Layla passionately on the lips only breaking apart to catch their breaths than leans his head to Layla’s.

Layla: Thank You for tonight. Good night Liam.

Alpha Liam: You're welcome. Good night Layla.
