He had been in thoughts since last night. The lady knew his secret. The secret he had been keeping for years. No one or witch had managed to see it, but the lady saw it.
"Could she be lying? No... that's not possible."
He tried as much as possible to focus for the day until he finally left for home in the evening.
He called his driver to pick him up because he had a headache and couldn't drive. He rested his back in the car seat, his eyes closed as the driver drove.
Soon, they got to the house... then the car stopped abruptly.
He looked up to see a lady in front of the car, blocking the path.
It was her.
He couldn't imagine her image in his head because it was dark, but seeing her now, he recognised her.
"What is she doing here?" He thought.
"Please get her out of there." He said to his driver.
"Yes, sir." The driver replied. He honked at her to leave, but she didn't move. She kept trying to block their way until she fell to the ground.
The driver stopped, and Liam quickly got out of the car. He thought the car had hit her, but he was sure the car didn't even touch her. He bent near her, tapping her face lightly. "Hey." But she didn't move.
"Gosh," He sighed before lifting her. He carried her and walked towards the house.
He placed her gently on a couch and moved away.
"Sir." The maid behind him said, not knowing what to do.
"Don't worry. You can leave." He said calmly, to which the maid also bowed her head and left the room.
He kept his eyes back on the lady. For a long time, he didn't move, nor say a word. He just kept looking at her until some minutes passed.
"How long do you plan to pretend for?" He asked.
"Gosh, he knows." Her eyes twitched lightly. She didn't want to disgrace herself more, especially when she was sure the man already knew.
She opened her eyes slowly to his blue captivating eyes. She knew he was good-looking, but she didn't knew he was... hot. He was clean, and smelt nice.
She sat up immediately, and looked down her toes in embarrassment.
"You should at least try to control your pulse next time. That will make it more believable." He said with no emotion. She bit her lip tightly, embarrassed. How could she pull such a stunt on a doctor?
"I'm sorry." She apologized, but she heard again. "There are a lot of things I should get you sued for."
She looked up at him. He was cold beyond his looks. "I don't know he goes around threatening people with lawsuits." She whispered to herself, but it didn't go unheard by him.
He sat on a couch facing hers. "You don't think what you did deserves that?" He asked.
She bit her lips tightly. She should stop running her mouth.
"I'm sorry." She said again, her gaze locked in his.
He looked at her, almost getting lost in those beautiful brown eyes, before looking away. "She's a witch, and that's what witches are good at."
"Just leave. I don't want to see you again." He stood up to leave but stopped when he heard. "I'm right, isn't it? You don't have a wolf. I can't seem to sense it. I know you're cursed."
He looked back at her and said with a straight face. "You don't know what you're talking about, young lady."
"You're not denying it." Celine said to him, also standing up from her seat.
"Nor am I acknowledging it." He replied, crossing his arms on his chest.
"Ok, fine. You don't have to say it, but I can help you. I can help you break the curse. Just allow me." Celine begged, moving closer to him, but he moved backwards.
She didn't care if she didn't have her powers right then, but seeing the guy was cursed gave her hope. Hope that she wasn't born powerless.
Ms...
"Celine. I'm Celine.
"Sit down, Celine." He said before he also sat back down. He looked at her and sighed.
"I've met... powerful witches, but none of them could find anything. You're the first witch to ever see something like this." He said, looking at the lady, who smiled happily.
"Does it mean I was right?" Celine asked, but Liam just looked at her for some time. "Does that matter?"
Her smile froze immediately. "No."
"Yes. I don't have a wolf if that's what you wish to hear, and I hope your mouth is not too loose to tell the whole world." He said, which made her chuckle.
"My mouth is tightly sealed." She smiled, but he just stared at her without a word.
One thing he noticed about her was that she liked smiling a lot, something he wasn't expecting from a witch.
"Then fine. Let's see what you can do, Ms. Celine. Break that curse you speak of, and I'll give you whatever you want." He said, staring at her as if he was expecting her to do something.
Her eyes widened. "What? Now?"
"Yes. Is something wrong?" He asked, but Celine bit her lip nervously. How would she tell the guy she couldn't cast a spell, and it was her first time seeing that someone was cursed?
She thought of trying to break his curse when she got her sister's spell book. If she could see he's cursed, then she should be able to break it.
Well... The thing is that I can't do it right now." She replied, looking at Liam, who was just staring at her as if confused. "I mean, I can't perform a spell yet."
"Yet? Your spells don't work? Aren't you a witch?
"I don't have my powers." She said calmly, looking at him to notice his expression, but it was unreadable.
"You mean you don't have any witches' powers, and you assumed I was cursed?" She heard him ask but quickly answered him. "It wasn't an assumption. I saw it."
"How?" He asked, raising his voice, but sighed and lowered his voice again. "I don't know what you think you saw, or perhaps someone sent you. Whatever it is. Just leave. I'm not interested." He stood up to leave.
She watched him say everything he said, but still, she wasn't bothered. She was sure of what she saw. She just needed him to prove her powers.
"Please wait." She quickly grabbed his hand to stop him from walking away, but as soon as her hand touched his, she felt something as if something strange walked into her.
"Leave on your own before I throw you out myself." He removed his hands away from hers, but she held his hand again. "Just a minute, please."
Her eyes went straight to the bulb up in the ceiling, and she started mumbling some words. A few seconds later, the bulb, which was on, switched off suddenly.
"Oh my goodness!" She exclaimed with happiness before the light switched back on.
"Did you see that? I have my powers. I knew it." She smiled as she talked. Tears almost ran out of her eyes due to happiness, but she stopped and cleaned her face when she saw the guy staring at her with no emotion, or rather confused.
She let go of his hand and cleared her throat. "I... Well. I." She didn't know how to start explaining, nor was the guy helping her by staring at her.
"I was born with no power, and I've always been told to accept to live like that, but I don't believe that. My powers are somewhere. How can my sister get such great powers from my mother. That's not possible. And I believe that more today."
Liam stared at her as she spoke. He didn't want to trust her.To him, witches could be so cunning, but still, he wanted to give her a chance. Maybe because he pitied her, or because he felt something in her words. Something that made him feel they're the same.
"Who's your sister?" He asked.
She didn't want to say the truth, but she didn't see a reason not to. After all, everyone knows her sister.
"Patricia mystique." She answered. She noticed. He looked surprised.
He couldn't believe she came from such a big, powerful Witch family. "The head of the witches is your sister?"
"Yes. Unbelievable, right?" Celine chuckled before adding. "It's still surprising. Looks like our fate is tied together."
Liam just kept looking at her before he sighed. "Then I hope you'll do everything it takes to get the curse broken."
She wasn't expecting him to give in so easily, and nor was she also ready to give up, but she was surprised when she heard him. "Oh my goodness! Am I hired?" She exclaimed with joy.
Liam didn't know what to say. Hired wasn't the word he expected, but he just nodded his head.
"I won't let you down." She said.
"I hope so."
