She went with the woman that she hadn’t seen in many years, her mother was a stranger to her. They spoke of nothing on the way to her new home. She wondered if her life would change now. Would she get back the loving family she once had only with a different cast. The finally arrive at the modest two story home, that was to be her new start. She met siblings that she knew nothing about, and couldn’t connect with. A step-father who looked at her for too long.
Her mother showed her to a room, it was barely big enough for a bed and dresser. “This will be your room until we can figure something else out.”
“Um yeah ok!”
“Why don’t you freshen up and then come down to dinner.” The girl nodded in reply, but wondered what she was to freshen up to since she had only the clothes on her back. She stayed quiet about this as she didn’t want to be a burden to anyone. She unbuttoned her shirt after her mother had left and set about washing as best she could with the small cloth and water that had been placed in her room.
Once finished she put her clothes back on and went down to dinner. “Mother! What is this trash doing in our house?” Asked a girl in a high pitched voice.
“Bertha! That is no way to talk about your older sister!”
Briana stood there staring at her feet, she knew she would never fit in here. Her past was just to dirty for her family. She was shocked when she heard the boy say, “ Hush Bertha! You will scare her away. I always wanted another sister.” What she didn’t see was the darkness in his eyes as he looked her over.
After dinner was over, which was awkwardly silent after the outbursts at the beginning, the girl went back up to her room to go to bed. She was a very light sleeper after the way her life had turned out, so she heard the door to her room open and close. Someone was running a hand along her side through the blanket. Pretending to be fully asleep she waited to see what would happen.
“Just wait dear sister. I will have you soon. What is one more person after the many you have already had? I will wait for you to settle in a bit first,” whispered her brother. A tear rolled down her cheek but went unnoticed by him.
The door opened again, “Son what are you doing in here?” A man said.
“Oh nothing, Dad, I was just seeing if she was awake so we could talk, but she is not. Good night.” Saying this the brother hurried out of the room.
“I’m not as easy to fool as my son. I know you are awake.” The cover was pulled off the girl and her clothes moved aside. “I will have fun tonight, and many more nights. I get the mom and the daughter, how did I get so lucky?” The girl stayed still and lost herself in her dreams.
She see the woman, who was with the man in her other dreams on occasion. She is walking down a street when a man approaches her. “Give me all your money and valuables,” he said while pointing a gun at her. The woman empties her purse and takes off all her jewelry as quickly as she can, and hands it over while trying to protect her heavy stomach.
“That’s all I have please don’t hurt me or my baby. I won’t tell anyone what you look like please!”
The man looked surprised then angry. “ You shouldn’t have said that. Now I have no choice but to get rid of you. No one can know about this.” After saying this he hit her on the head and started to kick her. She curled into a ball as best as she could around her stomach to protect it. After beating on her for a while he left her for dead. The woman crawled to a doorway after regaining consciousness and called out for someone to help her.
The emergency responders showed up shortly there after. The baby was born alive but the mother sustained too many injuries to survive.
Once she felt his weight move she felt something land on her chest, it was a wad of bills. “Can’t day I didn’t reward you now can you?” With that he left the room.
This was not the place for her and she would leave as soon as she could. No man or boy was going to take advantage of her again.
