All of us accepted that, good auditions aside, JoJo landed the role mostly through a combination of personal connections, notoriety, and cheapskatery. The TV show got a buzzy new cast member at a bargain price, little more than union scale, rather than having to pay more to get a better-established actor. His recognizability was more of a benefit than a detriment, given this was a smallish supporting role. With Ten-31 being a long-running show, having an equally long history of cast changes, they had very little to lose by bringing on a relative novice. And since any publicity is good publicity, the inevitable internet bitchery about Reality Stars Trying To Be Actors was unlikely to do any true harm.
