First Shifts

2107 Words
Jennifer Dickens had grown up completely Human, and onlynwemt to a Were school. There were Wolves, Jaguars, and Bears that lived in the Royal Pack, the city she grew up in. She did not haye the Were people, but they definitely made her nervous. They all apparently think she smells weird, as no human carried the scent she did. Almost each of the different Were Races said she kinda smelt like them, but different somehow. She had no clue, but it was because she was related to them all over the 2 millenia since the Great War. The 37 Were Races had taken the longest to combine, and Jennifer Dickens would eventually be able to shift into all of them. She hated that the King had declared a ball, that had mandatory attendance. His son was changing tonight, as it was also the full moon. The different Were Races had their own customs, and different ages when they could shift. The Prince was 16 today, and she was turning 21. She was now considered a full adult in the Realms, and could travel freely between them as a Human. She looked at herself in the mirror after she got ready, and her Scarlet Dress looked smoking hot in it. She was 5'9" tall, and weighed 125 pounds of pure muscle. She trained hard, as was expected of all the Races of the realms. Her shoulder length red hair and deep blue eyes were sparkling tonight as she felt extremely powerful. Her best friend Caitlyn got there just as she finished, and whistled when she opened the door. "Girl, you are smoking hot tonight. It might be for the Prince, but as far as I am concerned it's your party." Caitlyn said as she hooked her arm and they got in the limo. When they got there, it was clear that only the single men and women of the Pack had been required to attend, an apparent attempt for them to find his Fated Mate here. They went to the bar, and there seemed to be nearly a thousand singles mingling around. It was clear that several of them had found their mates, and Jenn snorted. She could never imagine having a Were Mate, they had changed a lot since the Great War. But she would never accept that the fayes had anything to do with her. She felt the moon rise into the sky as the party was just getting started. She felt energized as it rose into the sky, and danced with several unmated males. She could sense most of them were Wolves, and she knew it was odd for a human to even be able to tell what kind of shifter they were. Just as the moon approached its peak she smelt something amazing, and resisted the urge to follow it. The music stopped, and the trumlets sounded to announce the Royal Family. She turned with the crowd, and as soon as she saw the Prince she knew where the smell was coming from. The King was saying something she wasn't paying attention to as the moon approached its zenith. She began to get warm, and she still never took her eyes off of the Prince. As soon as the Moon was high in the sky, she felt a snap of one of her bones breaking. She screamed loudly, and almost every eye turned to her as they watched the most unusual thing. They watched a Human change into one of the largest Wolves any of them had ever seen. The Prince had changed quickly earlier that night when the moon rose, and it had taken him nearly half an hour. He had been looking for her, and only saw her when she screamed. By the time he reached her a minute later she was sitting in a clearing on the dance floor as she was extremely shocked. She was not the only one, as until she was sitting there as a Wolf, she smelled like a really weird Human. "Mate." The Prince said as he knelt before her. She growled slightly, as she had no desire for a Destined Mate. Just as she did, they looked around, and her dress was nowhere to be found. A bright light fell upon her before the moon suddenly turned blood Red, before a figure appeared. The woman looked at the Prince with a smile. "You need to step back child, I assure you she is extremely confused." she said as the Priest ran up. "Moon Goddess, what is happening?" he said shocked. "I told you 21 years ago she had been born, the time of prophecy is upon us." Selene replied as she lay her hand upon Jennifer's forehead. She rippled as she retook her Human form. "Sorry my precious child, but your journey is just beginning. And I hate to inform you, but he is not your only Mate Jennifer. You are a special project, and your decisions will unite the Realms, or Destroy them." Selene told her. "What the hell is happening? I am HUMAN?" Jenn yelled as she sat down and shivered. "Yes and no. You are much more than any one thing. For thousands of years your ancestors have been Human, with a little addition here and there from the other Races. Hybrids of the Supernaturals are very difficult to achieve, they battle to much. Humans however, malleable enough when you add the pieces at just the right time." she said as she looked at Jennifer. "Thank you for not answering the question at all." Jennifer said shaking her head. "Ok, plain English than. You are primarily Human, but so much more. You are the final culmination of the Prophecy I gave when the Raves split the Realms. You are the one who belongs to the 7, and unfortunately you have one of each Mate." Selene told her bluntly. They were all shocked, as it had never happened before. Jennifer growled at her, and her eyes glowed golden. She changed into a leopard, and ran from the room. She was so fast, that no one could follow her as she streaked through their legs. "Shit." Selene said as she had not expected that. Jennifer ran to her favorite secluded spot, that almost no one came too. There was a beautiful waterfall here, and she looked at herself in one of the calm pools. He fur was fire red, just like her hair in her Human form. "Why do you run from the Mate Bond little one?" Selene asked her as the moon returned to its normal white color. Jennifer growled at her before she shifted back. "First off, HUMAN!" Jennifer yelled at Selene and waved her hands at her body. "Second, who the f**k do you think you are deciding who I should love. I have half a mind to reject them all just to spite you!" Selene was shocked at this attitude, as she had not spent much time here. "Why child? It is a gift-" "No, it is a f*****g curse I want nothing to do with!" Jennifer yelled at her as tears spilled from her eyes. "Than you shall watch the Realms be destroyed. You are the only one who can save them, and you will need your mates to survive. All of them." she said. "Good, I hope you are happy with it. Who the f**k do you think you are to put the fate of the world-" she said before she froze and growled. She could smell the Prince approaching, and had no desire to even see him let alone speak to him. "You know what, never mind. Leave me the f**k alone, if you come near me right now all you will get is a rejection." she yelled making the Prince stop dead in his tracks. "Go to hell, until I have an explanation you can watch the realms burn. It's about time you incompetent fucktards learn the mortals are not your play toys." she said before she shifted into a Bear and ran again. Prince Samuel walked up to where she had shifted, and looked at Selene. "Amazing." he said as she was on the other shore shaking out her fur and shifting into a fox before going into the woods at a high rate of speed. "She is just beginning to learn, and has not even begun to find her powers. I just never expected her to be so hostile to the Mate Bond, and if she doesn't open to it everyone is doomed." Selene told him. "She was right about one thing, you immortals expect to much of us Mortals. If you had looked at this realm at any time in the last 200 years, you would know it is far more common for us to reject Fated Mates now. You expect her to deal with 7?" Samuel Frost asked her. "Why would you stop believing in the mate bond?" Selene asked him. He was right, she had not really looked in a long time. Selene sighed as she gazed into the future, and was scared of what she saw. She had not lied when she said she had every intention of rejecting each of them on sight. "Because the Great War took away your luster? Yet again you Immortals assume you can do whatever you want and we just jump in line. Thank you for ruining my chance at happiness, bonding me to someone who hates it with all of her being." he said before he shifted to his Wolf and left her standing there. Jennifer had run for hours, and finally found herself far from anyone that could disturb her thoughts. She had woke up with the intent of never having a mate and hating that they even existed still. Now a supposed Goddess told her she didn't have one mate. She had to be a freak and have 7 of the fuckers. "I am sorry." Selene said appearing in front of her again. "If I had known how you felt I would have stopped this. It is too late however, and it has already begun." she said regretting it. "Why?" Jennifer asked. "It cannot last, you call what I have established a curse. Let me show you a real curse." Selene grabbed her hand and showed her a vision. Jennifer rejected all 7 of her mates one by one, each of her sides torn apart. It drove her insane as she went on a rampage, that each of them destroyed the entirety of the 7 Realms. Each of her Mates was of Royalty, meant to unite the 7 realms back to one. Each of them ended terribly, with all 7 of the realms utterly destroyed as the Royals went to war because none of them could have her mate. Jennifer cried, as she now knew who each one of her mates was. "Why would this happen just because of me?" Jennifer asked. "There have been many leaders of the World. Some of them were raised to be leaders, some of them were forced under thenworst of circumstances. They did amazing things, but never has one had to be made for a specific purpose. What they call the Great War was nothing compared to what could happen." Selene said looking at her. "Even without you, they eventually would have gone to war again. The Gods are unfortunately not done with this Realm." Jennifer sat there, staring at the ground. "Now show me what happens if I succeed." she said holding out her hand. Selene took it, and it showed another war still, except this time she lead the 7 Armies, alongside her mates. The war was against the dark gods, who wanted to destroy the 7 realms. It cut out before the end, but she knew it was because of how many possibilities there were. "I cannot promise that there won't be pain, War is a terrible thing that I wish was not necessary. However there are far darker things at work than my Mate Bonds. Most can live life and do what they want, few are chosen, far fewer have the weight of the world on their souls. What I can promise, is that when you heal the fractures, the rest will be as good as you make it." Selene told her. "This will be the last war of the Realms, one way or the other. You hold the key of fate for all Races, and only your Mates can teach you what you must know. 2 years before they come, prepare what you can." Selene said before she faded away.
