Chapter 3

One week later. “Oh my God! Colten, how do you live here?" My mom screechs from downstairs. Colten and I find her downstairs, ruffling through numerous empty cabinets. She puts the giggling 3 year old in my arms. "Take out." Colten says ruffling his hair. "Well we have to go to the store! And I'm going to need both of you so Colten please put Lily in the car and Ariana cancel your plans." Mom orders. She's crazy. "But mom! That's so not fair! Louis and I are going to see Snow White and The Huntsman!" "It'll be packed anyways hun you can go later!" She says grabbing her wallet. "Why can't Colten just go, he has no life!" I yell. Mother scorns me. "Speak for yourself." Colten says with Lily on his back. "I wanna listen to Taylor!" Lily whins. "Okay when we get in the car. Come on I'll get it." Colten says kneeling in front of a giant stack of CD's. He hands her a blue case and she smiles. Watching him be a good brother actually makes him seem kind of sweet. Now why can't he be a good guy? "Load up!" My mom yells, snapping me back into reality. Mom and I sit up front while Colten sits in the back seat with Lily. Bree calls this her, "family car" and let's the nannies use it to drive the kids around. It was an SUV. "Play this?" Colten asks holding out a blue CD. I grab it and pop it in the CD player. The instrumental introduction begins, and I immediately recognize the song. He says the way my blue eyes shined, put those Georgia stars to shame that night I says that's a lie. I snap instantly. "You like Taylor Swift?" I ask Lily. "I like Taylor! Play this one!" She points at the case to number 11. I gladly change it. "You girls are too much." My mom laughs. "Shh! Turn it up!" Lily exclaims. I turn it up and sing with her. "I was riding shotgun with my hair undone in the front seat of his car. He's got a one hand feel on the steerin' wheel. The other on my heart. I look around with the radio down; he says baby is something wrong? I say nothing, I was just thinkin’ how we don't have a song. And he says, our song is the slam of screen doors, sneakin’ out late tapping on your window. When we're on the phone and you talk real slow, cuz it's late and your momma don't know." We belt out. Colten starts to laugh at us. Lily's eyes were light brown with a ring of green, and they are filled with happiness. I catch Colten's gaze. He holds it, then quickly looks away. I turn back in my seat and continue singing. "Which is next Lily?" I ask. "3!" She squeals. I play Teardrops on My Guitar. I sink into a sappy mood. I'd much rather be with Louis, but this is fun. At least Lily is... I change it to Picture to Burn, and Lily frowns. "I wanna listen to Taylor!" "This is Taylor." I say. She claps and listens, singing occasionally. I was too. Soon I heard a third voice joining. I look at mom. She smiles. It wasn't mom. Colten? I turn to see him staring at Lily, smiling and singing along. She giggles and claps at his amazing voice. I try to keep my mouth closed, but it was just a miraculous sight. Not even my older brother would sing to me, and we were really close. Colten looks more like he is teasingly singing the lyrics to Lily, which she got a good kick out of. The song ended and she giggles. "Brother sings pretty." She laughs. He smiles -which I've never seen him do- and tickles her stomach. She giggles and cheers as the next song plays. We pull in to the store. Before I can turn around, Colten notices me looking and gives me a death glare before unbuckling Lily. He put her on his back as we step out of the car. I grab my wallet, and we walk into the store. Instantly Lily squeals. "Brother! Brother look!" she points at a giant sign. Speak Now: Platinum Edition Lily screams, causing me to wince. I grab the CD. "Do you want it?" I ask, holding it out to her. She nods eagerly and takes it. "I can get it." Colten says, pulling it from her. "No big deal. I needed it too. I love Taylor's music as well. All I need is to sync it to my laptop, and she can have it." I shrug. I pull it out of Colten's hand. "I got it." He says, grabbing it back but this time causing our fingers to come in contact. This freezing cold electric shock goes through my body. "Damnit." He mumbles as we kept our gaze. He snaps out of it and covers Lily's ears. "Sorry cutie don't say that." He says, taking the CD from me. I let him. I grab one of my own and follow them. My body is still tingling. Later it even went to my lips. It quickly shot through my lips then stopped. Only to quickly be replaced with pain. "Ouch!" I says grabbing my mouth. Colten stares with horror in his eyes, and Lily and my mom look at me oddly. "What's wrong Ariana?" My mom asks. "I don't know. My mouth it like hurts or burns or something!" I say, clenching my hands into fists to avoid pain. "Let me see." She says, and I perk my lips out. "They look fine honey I'm sure you'll be okay." She says, leaving checkout. I pay for my CD and join them in the car quickly.
