>>>Stephanie's pov<<<
"I regret the day I accepted you to work as an Omega in this pack house," Head Omega Tana spoke, her voice dripping with disdain. I felt her words like a physical blow.
"I am sorry, ma'am," I whispered, my gaze fixed on the ground. I knew I had made a mistake by spilling the wine, but I had never expected such harsh treatment.
"Enough of the apologies! Now get to work, the Alpha families are waiting," Tana yelled, her irritation palpable.
I stood at the edge of the grand hall, my hands clasped tightly in front of me, trying to calm my racing heart. The opulence and grandeur of the palace were overwhelming, and I couldn't help but feel small and insignificant in the face of such wealth and power.
As an Omega, I was at the bottom of the palace hierarchy, there to serve the Alpha family and obey their every command. But I had never imagined that my first encounter with the Alpha sister, Isabella, would be so unpleasant. Tana's words echoed in my mind, and I couldn't shake the feeling that I was useless and unworthy.
I had been assigned the task of serving drinks at a grand party hosted by the Alpha family. I did my best to carry out my duties with grace and efficiency, but Isabella seemed to take an instant dislike to me. As I moved through the crowd, serving glasses of sparkling wine, I could feel Isabella's icy gaze fixed upon me.
Suddenly, Isabella's voice cut through the chatter of the partygoers. "Stop right there, Omega!" she barked.
I froze, my heart racing as I turned to face the Alpha sister. "Yes, My Lady?" I said, my voice barely above a whisper.
Isabella strode towards me, her eyes blazing with anger. "I saw you!" she accused. "You stole the gold from my mother's room!"
My eyes grew wide with shock. "I swear, My Lady, I did not steal anything!" I protested. "I have been serving drinks all evening!"
But Isabella was having none of it. "Do not lie to me, Omega!" she spat. "I know what I saw! You stupid i***t!"
I fell to my knees, tears streaming down my face. "Please, My Lady, I beg you to believe me!" I cried. "I am innocent!"
But Isabella only grew more incensed. "Search her!" She ordered the guards. "I am sure you will find my mother's gold in her possession!"
The guards moved towards me, their hands grasping at my dress. I struggled and wriggled, trying to break free, but it was no use. One of the guards produced a small pouch from my pocket, emptying its contents onto the floor. A pile of glittering gold coins spilled out, shining in the light of the chandeliers.
I could only stare in horror as the evidence of my supposed guilt was laid bare before me. "I did not steal this!" I wailed, my voice breaking. "Please, My Lady, believe me!"
As Isabella sneered at me, she ordered the guards, "Take her away. Lock her up in the dungeon until further notice."
"Wait!" Someone ordered, and as we all turned to see who it was, it happened to be the queen mother, Alpha Gideon's mother, mother of the emperor Lycan king.
"I know it when I see it, because I have experienced it before." She stared at me without blinking for a moment.
"It might sound funny, but it's a true story." She took a deep breath and paused for a second. "I once had an omega, you are beautiful, but I can bet that you are nothing compared to her, she was as loyal as anyone could ever imagine hahhah!" She laughed.
"I let that loyal servant of mine into my life, I trusted her, I let her know my secret, but guess what? I woke up one morning and I couldn't find her." She moved closer to me with her eyes widely opened.
"She didn't just run away, she ran along with my valuables, with things I cherish the most. Since that day, I learned to trust no one, I execute anyone that steals from the Royal home." She said with seriousness, as she took a few steps backward.
"Like I said earlier; I know a thief when I see one, let the girls go, she is not a thief." The queen mother ordered.
But Isabella was not convinced. "Mother no!" she protested, her eyes full of disappointment.
"Enough Isabella," the queen mother said firmly. "The girl is innocent. You have to loosen up so you won't make the mistake of your life. We have a lot of guests to meet. Come on."
I felt relieved that I had been vindicated, but Isabella's parting words left me uneasy. "You should count yourself lucky this time, because you might not be so lucky next time," she whispered into my ear before leaving.
I could feel the eyes of every guest at the party on me, their whispers echoing in my ears. I knew I was innocent, but the evidence against me was damning. As the guards found the gold in my pocket, I fell to my knees, tears streaming down my face.
I couldn't take it anymore. The humiliation, the accusations, the stares. I ran out of the hall, tears blurring my vision. I didn't know where I was going, I just knew I had to get away. I stumbled into the backyard of the palace, collapsing on the grass as I sobbed uncontrollably.
That's when I saw him. A tall, handsome lycan was standing just a few feet away, his back to me. He was crying too, and I wondered what could possibly make someone like him cry. He turned to me, and our eyes met. For a moment, we just stared at each other, both of us lost in our own thoughts.
"Are you okay?" he asked, his voice deep and soothing.
I shook my head, unable to speak through my tears. He came closer, kneeling down beside me. "Here," he said, offering me a handkerchief. "It's okay to cry, you know."
I took the handkerchief, grateful for the gesture. "Thank you," I whispered.
We sat there in silence for a while, both of us lost in our thoughts. Finally, he spoke. "My name is Gray," he said. "I'm the Alpha's second in command."
I nodded, still too overwhelmed to speak.
"I'm sorry about what happened to you," he said. "Isabella can be...difficult."
I managed a small smile. "That's one way to put it."
He chuckled, and for a moment, I forgot about the chaos of the party. We talked for a while, sharing stories and laughter. I felt a strange connection to him, like we had known each other for years.
But then, his expression grew serious. "There's something I need to tell you," he said, his voice low. "My mother is sick. She only has a month to live."
I felt a pang of sympathy for him. "I'm so sorry," I said.
He looked at me, his eyes searching mine. "I don't know what to do," he admitted. "I feel so lost."
I reached out, taking his hand in mine. "You don't have to do this alone," I said.
He squeezed my hand, and for a moment, I felt a spark of something more than just friendship. But then, the sound of footsteps broke our moment.
"We have to go," Gray said, standing up. "But...can I see you again?"
I nodded, feeling a flutter in my stomach. "I'd like that."
He smiled, and then he was gone. I watched him disappear into the palace, unsure of what had just happened. But one thing was clear: things were about to get a lot more complicated.
