With the words that her mother spoke, Kira's heart was filled with warmth. She hugged her mother tightly.
"What would I do without you Mom?" she asked as she looked at her mother with teary eyes. Her heart constricts in a painful yet overwhelming way. She was so blessed to have a mother like her. Her mother smiled at her.
"You know Kira, a mother loves her child unconditionally. It's an innate nature of mothers. No matter how hard headed their children is or no matter what things that they did still they accept their child wholeheartedly. No mother wants to see their children suffer. Yes, they teach them lessons but still in the end they will embrace their children open arms without questions and without hard feelings. You will understand everything when you become a mother too which is sooner months from now you will be."
"Mother, were you afraid when you gave birth to me?" she asked after.
"I was. I was really afraid and my mind constantly has what ifs. What if you were having abnormalities when you come out or will I still be alive after I give birth to you. And I really prayed hard that I will successfully give birth to you Kira. And thanks heavens I did. I was so happy when I first saw you. The moment that I carried you in my arms was the blissful moment of my life. I even shed tears of joy when you held my finger and smiled at me. Every day, I will see to it that you are really cared for. I even sacrifice my sleep so that I can watch you at night. When you first said Mom, I was the over the moon. You walked to my arms and embraced me tight." Her mother smiled knowingly while reminiscing all of the past memories she had with her.
"What about Dad? What did he feel when I was born?" Her mother laughed as if she remembered a joke from an old box.
"Oh your Dad was the funny one. When I told him that I was pregnant, he was unnerved. His mouth was wide open so as for his eyes." Kira also laughed after imagining the look of his now dead father. He must have looked like a clown come to life.
"And then what came next?" she asked excitedly.
"And then your Dad sat on the sofa seat."
"Really? Why sat on the sofa? Oh Dad!"
"Yes. I was confused by his actions. Then he went inside the kitchen and drink a pitcher of really cold water. I thought he never wanted you. I was really nervous that time. He then washed his face on the sink. Then I asked him if he wants you or not but he never answered me. So I walked out."
"Did he not want me?" she asked with a sad voice. Her father never want her? That idea breaks her heart.
"No! That's not the point. When evening came, he appeared on my doorway and he kneeled on the ground. He was crying and he was saying sorry because he knows that I am thinking that he doesn't want you. But he explained that he just can't believe it - that I was pregnant. He sat on the sofa seat because his knees turned jelly. Then he drank water to convince himself that he was not dreaming at all. He was still not contented so he washed his face."
Kira laughed out loud. She was holding her breath and her stomach aches for laughing for a long time. The sides of her eyes become wet.
"Dad was really hilarious."
"He is. You know your Dad. He loves you more than anything else in the world."
Kira remembered her father. He was the best Dad in the world for her. He never let's his work schedule affect their bonding time. He always make sure that she was sent to school and picked up everyday. Her father never missed a single performance nor graduation on her school before. Her father was her number one fan and supporter.
She smiled at the thought. If her father is still alive, things would have been a lot different from what it is now.
"I love Daddy to and I really miss him now."
"Me too sweetheart. I miss him everyday but we need to let him rest in peace too. He suffered a lot."
Kira's father became paralyzed after he was involved in an accident. His lower body can't move anymore. He's been like that for four long years. Soon, his blood pressure started to spike up and they need to buy him maintenance medicine for that. He lived for three years longer and then one day, they just saw him lying on his bed and dead.
"He did suffer too much. He doesn't deserve it you know. Dad was the kindest and most loving person I have ever known. He loves us more than anything else in the world. He makes us his priority." Kira's heart still hurts so bad when she thinks of her father. She has been a Daddy's girl. The bond that they had was so strong that the memories made from yesterday sends pain to her heart.
"He doesn't. But life has a way to challenge us. Life has its own way to test our inner strength. We walk on different paths. We may be on the same plane but not on the same lane sweetie. Sometimes you need to let go of people who are important to you so that you can continue to walk on your path and find someone new. Someone that will be so important to you too. Never dwell fear and pain in your heart. It will eat your happiness. It will hinder your success."
"But I can't help it you know. I am a Daddy's girl. Our bond was so strong that it pains me whenever I reminisce about our time together. But I will move on Mom. One way or another, I can move on and live my life to the fullest. And if that time comes, when I reminisce about Dad? It will not hurt me anymore."
"Believe you can Kira. Focus on your future now especially that you will become a mother too. Always remember that your child needs you so you need to be a strong pillar so that he or she can hold into you as he or she progresses to stand on his or her own."
"Will my baby like me?"
"It will Kira. You are a kind hearted person and I know that you will love this child as much as you love his or her father. Am I right?" Kira's face flushed. The crimson stain crept all over her face.
"Mom!"
"What? Don't you love Vin?"
"I do. But don't mention him anymore. I need to move on with my life. I need to for my child. If fate permits then we will see each other again one way or another. I will not forbid nor hide the child from him. After all, I was at fault too when I left him alone at his condo that night. Chances are, we are destined and fated. Or maybe just destined to know each other but not fated for life."
"I know that you will always be a strong woman that you are. I am proud that I raised you to be like that. Anyway, it's getting late. You just stay here and eat lunch. I will see Karina and the gang today. Remember, it's Lilian's birthday today and Karina throws a party. We too will have our reunion."
"Hmm... I will. Take care Mom. Don't go home too late. And never drink liquor. It's bad for your health."
