A Night With You

Chapter 10: Sick

Kira suddenly woke up after she felt that her head felt like splitting into half. She groaned as she massaged her temple. She sat on the edge of the bed and winced as the pain keeps assaulting her system. 

She went to the first floor - to the kitchen to drink some cold water and she looked for an analgesic tablet on the medicine cabinet. She popped it into her mouth and she sat on the dining chair. 

"Kira? What's the matter sweetheart? Are you okay?" Her mother asked. 

"I do not know Mom. I woke up with a massive headache and I feel nauseated."

"Did you already drank medicine?" Her mother touched her forehead then her neck. 

"I already took an analgesic. Maybe this would be better later." Her mother just nodded and cooked for their meal. 

As soon as her mother placed the last plate on the table, they seated and started to eat in silence.

"Mommy?"

"Yes sweetheart? Do you want something?"

"Uhmmm... Do we have a chili sauce?" Her mother's eyebrows raised. 

"Chili sauce? What for?" 

"I feel like eating this toasted bread with cheese and chili sauce. I'll try that combo." Even if her mother was puzzled, she still pointed the cabinet that has a chili sauce.

But as soon as she started to eat the bread, she vomited. Her worried mother came to her side and rubbed her back.

It is Sunday today so it's a day off for both of them. Meaning MC is closed every Sunday. Her mother pulled her gently towards the sofa seat on their living room. Her face was so serious. She let Kira seat on the sofa facing her direction. 

"Are you sick Kira? Do you feel something weird about your body?" asked Kira's mother.

"Well, aside from headache and vomiting. Nothing more serious Mommy so you do not need to bring to a hospital for a check up. I maybe am just stressed since I was super busy this past few weeks trying to operate our business." Kira explained. Her mother studied her features closely and Kira was a bit conscious.

"When was your last period?" Her Mom asked her with a stern expression. 

"Eh? Of course last month. Why? Why are you asking ridiculous stuffs Mom? It's as if I have a cancer that you will be so alarmed."

"This is much more alarming than having a cancer Kira."

"What?! Me? Am I dying Mom? I mean? Is this a sign of a certain disease? Did I inherited it from our family or I just gained this from outside people. Oh no!" Kira started to panic. She tastes bile on the pit of her stomach.

"Calm down Kira. I know that this will sound so impossible since you are still not in a relationship in all your life. But clearly you are showing signs of pregnancy." Kira's heart picked up its rate. She thought of the hot night with Vin. Could it be?

"Now, are you pregnant Kira?"

"Mom... I don't... I don't know. I can't understand at all."

"Did you have an i*********e with a man? Tell me honestly Kira." Her mother said with a tone of finality. Kira sighed heavily as she prayed that her mother will not get mad at her. 

"Mom... I did." With that, her mother hyperventilated. She keeps on fanning herself with her hand. 

"Goodness Kira! I never thought that you will engage into something like this! I didn't raise you to be... Oh God!" Kira's tears started to fall from her eyes. She is really sorry but she never regretted what happened back then.

"I'm so sorry Mommy! I'm sorry if I broke your rule." She continues to sob and she shoved her face on her palms. 

"Who is the father?"

"He is Vin."

"Vin who? Is he your boyfriend that I didn't know of? He's from where?"

"I don't know his full name." Kira said softly.

"Jesus! How could you entrust something too precious to a man you don't even know."

"He is not my boyfriend but I really love him. He said that he loves me too. I just met him the night before we migrated here. I don't know anymore." Her mother fell silent. She watched how her daughter weep. Slowly, her heart turned to jelly. It hurts to see her daughter cry over a guy she loves the most. She knows the feeling. 

Slowly, she sat on the sofa seat where Kira was seated. Hugging Kira tightly to let her know that she's always on her daughter's side. 

"Hush now sweetheart. It might affect the baby okay? And if Vin really loves you, he will find a way to see you. If his love is unreal then move on and start anew."

"Are you not mad at me?" Kira asked as she continues to sniff.

"Well, I was actually upset. But I can't stay mad at you. You are my only daughter and I love you. I know how you feel when you fall in love. It is hard to resist temptations this world offers. But please take care of yourself from now on. Think about your baby. Oh wait... To be sure, here. I always have this in case. It is really handy at times like this and I am right always. Try this now." She handed a pack to Kira. A pregnancy test kit. Kira got it with shaking hands. 

After a few minutes of waiting for the result. Both mother and daughter were anxious. The results came out. Two red lines.

"Positive." They both mumbled in chorus. 

"I think we need to hire someone to manage the store for the mean time. Too much stress will lead to miscarriage and we don't want that to happen. Anyway, we need to set an appointment to an ob-gyn."

"Okay. But Mom, honestly, I am happy but at the same time I am really afraid. What if I lost the baby? What if I will not be a good mother? What will I tell him or her in the future if he or she looks for his or her Dad? This child will hate me for sure. I cannot give her the life of having a complete family. And even now, I am feeling so sorry about that."

"Kira, you need not to worry. I am here. We are a family. Who cares if he or she doesn't have a Dad? Most mother's are solo parents. The most important thing is you love you child with all your heart and support his or her needs. We can't control the situation and turn back time. Now is not the time for your fears to cloud your judgement. You need to think of the life that starts to grow within your womb. You need to think of his or her future. You need to be ready. You are already 26 years old. Just the right time to be a parent anyway."

"How about you? And the business? What shall I do?"

"Rest your mind Kira. Relax okay? I can be just fine. And you will still manage our business but we will just hire someone to be with you there daily. And me? I will be with you in this fight of your life."

Kira's eyes watered again. Her mother is not mad at her. Her mother has the biggest and kindest heart. She is grateful to the Lord above for giving her a mother like her Mom. A loving and understanding one who will be on her side in fights of her life.
