“Who are you?” I asked nervously.
The men dressed in black stood quietly in front of the door, his expression serious. He didn’t answer my question. Instead, he reached into his coat and brought out a brown envelope.
“Is this Mr. Diego’s apartment?” he asked.
I nodded slowly, wondering what they wanted with my father.
“I was told to deliver this to him,” the man said, holding out the envelope.
Before I could say anything else, my father suddenly walked toward the two men. He took the envelope from the man without saying a word. The men exchanged a quick glance, turned around, and walked away.
I watched them disappear before turning to my father.
“Dad, who are they?”
He stopped and looked at me coldly.
“Who are you to ask me such a question?” he snapped.
I immediately kept quiet. There was no point arguing with him. I watched as he opened the envelope, quickly looked through its contents, then folded the papers and pushed them into his pocket.
Without another word, he walked away.
I sat back on the couch, trying to convince myself that everything was fine. Maybe it was a receipt showing that Dad had finally paid the loan he owed.
I smiled faintly at the thought, comforting myself with the hope that perhaps our problems were finally coming to an end.
Still sitting on the couch, I eventually closed my eyes and fell asleep.
Ella P.O.V.
I walked into the house and saw Lilian sleeping on the couch. I smiled softly at her. She was my little sister, and whenever I saw her sleeping peacefully, I felt at home. I had always wanted the best for her, even though I couldn't always give her the life she deserved.
My mother died while giving birth to Lilian, but I never blamed my sister. She was only a baby, and none of it was her fault, even now she is 17 it still not her fault. I never understood why Dad hated her so much, but I refused to treat her badly.
Lilian was beautiful, with light skin and brown hair. I had always wished for brown hair, but she got it instead, and honestly, I was happy that at least one of us had it.
I walked over, placed the goodies I bought for her on the table, and tapped her shoulder. She rubbed her eyes and looked at me.
“Oh, Ella, you're back.”
“Yeah.” I sat beside her.
“Did anything surprising happen today?”
She sighed. “Yes. some men in black came and gave Dad an envelope.”
“Not again. Are you sure he didn't borrow money?” I asked.
“I don't know he said he kept some money for you, with the kind of money he drop he has money now. Maybe it's just a receipt or something.” she said.
“Don't worry. I'll find out later. I said,
How was work?” Lilian asked.
“Stressful, but I got some tips from customers.” I smiled pointing to the goodies on the table.
. I smiled as she happily started chewing the candies.
thanks sis, she said.
you are welcome I said as I stood up and walked to my room with a smile.
