I don’t want to be here…

We arrived just before seven, with me came Matt and Finn plus some of our warriors and their mates. Lucian stayed with Lily who was too pregnant to want to go to a party. For once I envy him having a pregnant mate at home…

The moment we arrived Matt found Violet and we were finally introduced. She was very pretty 5’7 in height, with medium length brown hair and brown eyes. She looked good next to Matt who was 6’3 with brown short hair and Hazel eyes. I kept the introduction short because the tension between them was something I dare not try to go through.They went their way around the party while I stayed leaning up against my table.

Finn also bailed the moment he got here although he was on a mission and he was on the prowl for all the single she-wolfs out there.

"Finn, you better not find a mate tonight." I mind link

"Afraid of being by yourself, come prowl with me and find your own then."

"f**k off Finn!" I end the link after that.

I just have to stay long enough for the run, I tell myself then we can go home.

After what seems like forever, the birthday girls are being introduced. The tall blonde one looks like a model. She's tall and tan and reminds me of a Greek goddess. a typical alpha female. I bet she’s a wild one in the sheets. I thought there were 2 girls. she is carrying herself with that grace that all high ranking members seemed to be taught. It's a pity I've seen the truth. If only they had the same dignity they pretend to have in front of others. All I see is the goddess and… her baby sister?

This is Abra Lore….

She’s 18? That tiny thing? She's the size of an 11 year old. I've never seen a she wolf that small.

She is trying to mirror the image of her sister but what is she wearing? It's cute but it doesn't scream Luna for sure. Are those boots? I've never seen a female of her status wear anything like it. She's different, that's for sure.

Taking a closer look she does have the body of a woman curves and a surprisingly busty chest for someone so small. from the back I can’t really see the details of their faces but that doesn't matter. After tonight I’m sure I will never see them again.

Everyone has been dancing and celebrating awhile now, The alpha female is showing the true colors of how females really are. Called it.

Just a little longer until we can leave has become a mantra I keep repeating over and over trying to get through the night.

I’ve lost track of most members of my pack as they have all started to wander and mingle while I have yet to leave my spot near the back.

I avoid the gazes of many hungry females that reek of desperation. Matt better thank me once this is over.

Alpha Moore starts walking my way, ugh guess I’ll have to be pleasant for awhile."

“ Hello Alpha Moore, wonderful celebration” I say giving him my best smile

"Yes, we are so glad you could make it, where is your Luna?"

"I have not found my mate alpha, but our pack doesn’t need a Luna"

He stares at me for a moment too long so I say the first thing that comes to mind.

"So your daughters, they don't look much like twins… "

"That's true, because they are not. Ivy is my daughter by blood. She was the tall one. Abra, who was born on the same day, is my adopted daughter. She lost her parents 10 years ago during the Savage attacks like many others during that time. They died protecting my son Xander, and were also our best friends. So we raised her as our own. She may not be blood but I am proud to be her father and love her dearly."

I don't know how to respond, so Victor Savage took her parents too.

“Honestly I’m surprised you passed the test and were able to join our alliance.” He smirks

“What Test?”

“Well whenever anyone wants to join we have them come for a meeting, but then we delay with ‘meetings' about if they can join or not. What we are really doing is testing the Alphas' patience, seeing if he can conduct himself in a respectful manner and keep his temperament in check. Most young Alphas don’t make it especially if they don’t have a mate on the line.”

Those tricky bastards

“Yes, now normally we make them wait up to 2 weeks, but because of my daughter’s birthdays you did not have to wait as long"

“I will have to thank your girls for being born then"

“Yes, you should. They are both my pride and joy.”

“Alpha Masters, I know most of what you did was for your friend, and that makes me respect you all the more. It isn't often you find someone of your position who is loyal and puts the needs of his friends above their own wants. You surprised me.If you ever need anything don't hesitate to call.”

With that he pats my shoulder and walks away. That old man doesn’t seem so bad. I still would rather not be here, but it was good to learn the reason behind wasting my time. Maybe there is more to them than huge egos.

Right after our conversation the alpha is back on stage with his Luna, the future alpha and his 2 daughters.

Finally let’s get this run over with…

My pack is surrounding me again waiting for the first shift, both girls are in black sports bras and shorts, as is the Luna while the men are wearing basketball shorts. one thing with shifting you got to get used to being naked.

Both girls stand on the stage, the alpha daughter is first to go down on all fours keeping that stony face hiding her true feelings.

The shift is always painful but the first is the hardest. I hear bones cracking and fur starting to spread. She is whimpering but keeping herself held together. After a few minutes the tall one fully shifts. Her wolf is strawberry blonde, almost a reddish gold, she is definitely an alpha. she lets out a long howl then faces the little one licking her face.

They must be very close, you can feel the love between them while they go through this huge moment together. It's the tiny things turn, she looks like she is terrified, her stone face not masking with Precision but the moment the cracking begins there was a wolf

I lose focus when Onyx starts jumping around in my head making me lose my concentration, I can feel him getting excited like he’s wagging his tail inside my brain

“What’s up”

“She’s here”

“What?”

“Mate”

My stomach drops. This can’t be happening, not tonight. I look back to the stage when I hear another howl. On the stage next to the gold wolf is a white almost silver wolf. It's not that much smaller in size compared to her sister. that can’t be the tiny thing can it? I got distracted as she shifted and didn't notice the size of her wolf.As the 2 girls howl together, the rest of the people on stage shift as well as everyone else does, ready for the run.

I shift into my huge black wolf, even by alpha standards I am big. I lead my pack to join in on the run but I can’t enjoy it

“Onyx what did you mean mate, where?”

“She's here I feel it”

“Where?”

“You got to find her”

“you are no help”

just then I smell the most amazing scent, it smells like berries and vanilla oh goddess what the hell

I need to get out of here, this can’t be happening

“we need her stupid, she was made for us” onyx says he is acting like a puppy.

“without our Mate we will never be complete”

“ugh of all the stupid things in life, fine we can find her, but that doesn’t mean I have to be close to her. I don’t trust the mate bonds forced on people.”

I knew I shouldn’t have come here, I mind link my beta hey we need to make room for an extra, I guess my mate is here.

“what? Congratulations!”

“seriously, I don’t f*****g want her, you know how I feel about mates.”

“hold up man, maybe you should think it through before being rash.”

“We will take her with us because we have to but it’s nothing to celebrate”

I hate when Matt calls me Boss, the tone he uses is meant more like calling me an Ass or a d**k. My friend is unhappy with my reaction.

He cuts off the link as we near the end of the run, great now I have to go figure out which girl I’m stuck with.

We get to the trees where a bunch of omegas are set up with clothes ready for the returning wolves. I grab a pair of shorts and look at my beta. I’m just going to grab her and get out of here.

“Who is it?”

“No clue, I smelled her during the run but it could be anyone.”

“Alright well happy hunting boss"

“f**k you too buddy”

He walks away chuckling as i look at this crowd of people wondering who the unlucky girl will be.
