Chapter 7

~Abra~

I can’t believe it; the run is over and I feel so alive. I’ve never felt the freedom like I did as a wolf. ivory has been howling in my head full of pride from my first shift as well as excitement over something she has yet to share.

“Our mate is here” she almost purrs

“What? Seriously? Who is it?”

“How should I know?” She laughs. You’ll have to figure that one out.

“You are no help at all” I say teasingly

If he hasn’t found us and we haven't found him maybe I can just dodge him the rest of the night. That way I can enjoy my birthday with my family. Yeah it can just be ‘future me's' problem.

“Good luck with that" I swear I could feel her eyes roll at me, how does that even work?

I shifted back and got my clothes on. Not my party dress, just something you can put on quickly. I decided on a black tank and some yoga pants to be quick and comfy.

My combat boots aren’t here.

Everyone knows they are the only shoes I wear because anything else seems to lose my center of gravity and become prone to tripping at the worst times. Like when I tumbled down the stairs as ivy and I attempted to make a grand exit during our 16th birthday party.

I decided to walk away with bare feet, better safe than embarrassing my family again.

I look around and see Ivy who is all smiles and sunshine. I swear I can feel the excitement radiating from across the room. I try to get her attention as I walk over to her but there are too many people between us, it’s so loud calling out would be just as useless.

“oh right i can do that now”

“Ivy, come out with your hands up we've got you surrounded” ha! Even the voice I used changed while thinking it came through the mind link. This is amazing!

“Abra!?!?! Ha this is amazing"

“So want to bail on the party like right this moment?”

“What, why?”

“Ivory said my mate is here….”

“O M Goodness!! Really? Yeah, I’m not helping you run from your destiny”

I finally make my way through the crowd and to her side I was going to say more but the Alpha and Luna come over to us before I have a chance.

“ You were both amazing my darlings. I'm so proud.” He whispers before addressing the crowd

“Thank you everyone for being here for this momentous occasion, you are all welcome to come inside and join us for the after run feast. Those of you who are staying are welcome to head to your accommodations whenever you please and for anyone traveling tonight may the moon goddess bless you on your trip.”

I stare at him for a moment, both of us unmoving.

Is it him? I know I used to daydream about it but would we make a good match? Why is he just looking at me, almost like he is disappointed? He’s thinking the same thing isn’t he, he knows I’m not right to be the next Luna of our pack. A part of me wants to cry from feeling like our mate could possibly reject us…

Suddenly someone is behind him and walking up fast. Did he really just push Xander out of the way? Why is he looking at me? Should I run? Who attacks a girl on her 18th birthday?

He grabs onto my shoulder

Stranger Danger!!

My training kicks in. I use one of the first takedowns I learned when being attacked by someone bigger, because let's face it, everyone is bigger than me…

He already has his hand on my shoulder so I spin into his arm, kick his legs to spread them and throw him over my shoulder. Goddess this man is heavy, I hold on and tackle him to the ground with the throw. I use the surprise he is experiencing and stand up, this opponent is huge, why is no one helping me?

I’m losing the element of surprise I have and it looks like I’m on my own. It may not be warrior-like and I’m sure I will be scolded later but…

Street Rules!!!

I stand up quickly and stomp on his baby maker take that would be assassin….

He’s now covering his prized jewels, Yes, a critical hit!! I cheer in my head.

Everyone is frozen in silence just staring at us, a tall brown-haired guy is laughing hysterically “Yeah girl, Get em!!!”

I look back down to the tall kidnapper debating on attacking more when I hear him say

“Mate…”

It’s so quiet I feel like I am imagining his words...

“Ivory, is that him?”

“yup, way to make an impression.l" I sense humor in her words

I gasp, covering my mouth with my hand. I know I have to be turning red. Did I really just attack my mate in front of all these people?

I’m never going to hear the end of this….

Oh my goodness, he must be so mad, do I help him up? Why am I frozen? Oh no the Beast is back on his feet. I brace myself positive he’s going to hit me. He moves in close and I close my eyes for the blow.

Normally I would not let my guard down or close my eyes but this is supposed to be my mate who I just humiliated in front of everyone I might add.

He puts his arm on my shoulder again this time I don’t defend.

The kiss, my first ever. It is almost all-consuming, sending tingles through my whole body. I didn’t know I could feel something like this, especially from wait…

My head is spinning but I find the strength to pull away and get some air. He is still holding onto me and the world seems to have frozen once again. all I see are beautiful emerald eyes looking into my soul. He has humor in his eyes. Maybe he doesn't hate me….

“MATE!!”

He says it loud and clear for everyone around us to hear. At first it’s nothing but awkward silence but then that tall guy who spoke earlier starts cheering and everyone joins in.

I’m still in shock that my would-be attacker turned out to actually be my mate. Ivy is jumping up and down with excitement, I can see she has a million things she wants to say to me but it’ll have to wait.

I see worry on my family’s face. Alpha and Luna are whispering to each other but they quickly smile when they see me notice them.

Was one night if not causing an issue too much to ask? I give them my most apologetic look but say nothing not wanting to make it worse.

Xander he’s looking away but he seems like he is upset, I must have embarrassed them so badly making a scene like that.

Alpha Moore walks over to the two of us calmly. Everyone has their masks up now. I must have really messed things up.

“Alpha Masters, I see you’ve met my daughter, Abra….”

Alpha Moore purposely put emphasis on the word daughter, almost as if he was giving a warning. The tension in the air is making my stomach turn. Oh my goodness he is alpha masters….

I just attacked the Alpha of a visiting pack. This could break the treaty; destroy everything my family has built. This could start a War.

I remain calm, my face showing zero emotion like I’ve been trained to do when in front of others. Inside I’m a mess but no one needs to know. This silence is going to give me an aneurysm…

The tall dark and foreboding Alpha looks down to me then back to Alpha Moore. It’s too quiet…

he breaks into a smile and starts laughing.

“ It seems I have, my little one seems to certainly know how to make an introduction, doesn’t she?”

You can hear all the collective breaths being let out, it’s like everyone who came were all holding them in. Everyone joins in on the laughter. Except me I’m still too shook to find the humor in this moment…..
