Curse of the Moon Goddess

Chapter 3

We both got into the SUV and we decided we will take shifts driving. Matt wants to drive first probably because when we are close to her pack he won't be able to focus on the road knowing she is so close by.

He’s always been reckless and a romantic, even if he thought we couldn’t tell. My mate aversions aside I truly am happy for my friend.

After we got through the town and onto the freeway I decided it was time to get the story of how my best friend met the girl who made him lose his mind.

“So, tell me how you met the lovely Violet who lives 8 hours away.”

Well it all started Friday morning, you were out doing a patrol check. I’d just gotten off the phone with the main office to see how our new branch was running and decided to go find something to eat.

On the counter sat the most delicious looking cupcake all by itself with no one around and against my better judgment I ate it. Not even 2 seconds after taking the last bite I hear the most horrible shriek from behind me. It was Lily, with baby Elijah on her side, Rose holding her hand.

“Did you eat my last cupcake?” she screamed at me and I swear I she was possessed by a demon

“Wait wait you are telling me you stole a cupcake from Lily while she is in her last month of pregnancy with her 3rd pup….”

“I didn’t know it was hers!!!”

“Why is it always your stomach that gets you into trouble?”

“Well turns out, that stupid cupcake came all the way from the Dire Wolf village over 2 hours away. Apparently, Lucian brought her treats from the bakery when you sent him out there the day before and she was saving that cupcake.

So she gave me a choice to either go replace her cupcake right then or die…..”

I burst out laughing just picturing Lilly scaring Matt so bad he actually drove 2 hours for a cupcake.

Anyway, I drove all the way to the bakery only to be told the last cupcake was just sold and they wouldn’t be making more until tomorrow. Normally I’m much more reasonable but I did not want to go home to a hormonal pregnant lady without her cupcake in hand. I did the only thing I could think of. I chased after the person who bought the last cupcake.

Following my nose I came upon two girls, one of them was holding a gift wrapped box. That cupcake smelled amazing so I knew it was the right person. I ran at them, probably looking like a crazy man.

“Miss, miss, excuse me please. I need that cupcake. I'll pay whatever you want but if I don’t get that cupcake, a very pregnant woman is going to end my life.”

The girls had stopped, but hadn’t turned around finally the cupcake holder said,

“ Well I don’t want to have your blood on my hands so here" as she turned around.

At that moment I realized it wasn’t the cupcake I was smelling, it was her, she just happened to have the cupcake. We locked eyes and we both knew

“Mate"

“Did Lilly get her cupcake?”

“About that, we got so lost in the moment we embraced for a kiss and the cupcake didn’t survive.....But the frying pan Lilly hit me with was totally worth it"

I couldn’t help but laugh, that has to be one of the best mate cute (like a meet cute) story I had ever heard. Only my friend could meet someone in that way.

“Wait, why was she in Dire Wolf village? That’s still 6 hours away from her pack.”

“Oh that’s because a close friend of hers moved to the eclipse pack a while ago when she found her mate, and Violet was invited to come visit since her father and some of the pack would be traveling there in about a week for some 1st shift party or something along the lines. It's actually scheduled for Saturday. Violet wants me to go with her to it after we finish this trading goats and oxen for my bride.”

“You know normally the women came with a dowry, not the men.”

The drive went on much in this way for the next 8 hours. Until we finally arrived at The New Moon pack.

I’m not going to lie, nothing exciting or life altering happened in the next 4 days. Lots of big egos pretending to decide whether we could join the ‘Alpha Club' as I now thought of it. Me wanting to tell them off and leave, Matt pleading with me to just play along and then finally, in the early hours of Friday morning they finally reached a verdict.

We were asked to meet in the Alphas conference room. I honestly wasn't even paying attention to the chatter, not that I don’t respect the alphas or their packs but this whole thing was just so unnecessary

“So it is with unanimous approval from our treaty that we welcome you Alpha Masters and the entire Blood Moon Pack into the Treaty of the Alphas.”

“Matt Stone, you now have my blessing. Have you reconsidered our last conversation? Had a change of heart?

Matt shook his head and said "Sorry Alpha but I am positive im making the right decision"

Alpha Miles looks at him with pursed lips, disappointment clearly showing through his eyes before he continues.

"Very well then, bring your mate, my daughter Violet Miles and make her a member of your pack. Take care of my child and may your future be full of blessings from the moon goddess.”

I have no clue what was said behind closed doors between the two but behind the Alphas smile I see almost disgust, not very professional, I will have to talk with Matt about it after we break free from this place.

“Thank you Alpha Miles we both replied” bowing our heads while standing up to leave As we turn to walk away, quickly i might add another voice chimes in.

“Alpha, now that we are allies it would be an honor if you and some of your pack would attend my daughters 18th birthday party and be present for their first shifts.”

“Alpha… Moore, as much as we would love to attend, I have been away from my pack for so many days already I’m not sure if I’ll be able to attend.”

Alpha Moore looked disappointed but did not say anything more. Alpha Ryker on the other hand did not take my rebuff so easily.

“Alpha Masters, as I am sure you are aware since you joined the alliance, one of the conditions says that certain events require all allied packs to attend, one of which being an alpha female's first shift…”

Dick….

“My apologies gentlemen, I am just not accustomed to being away from my pack, it must have slipped my mind. It would be our honor to attend tomorrow night. Now if you’ll excuse us, we have a long drive home and then must prepare some of our pack members for the attendance tomorrow.”

“Perfect, my daughter Violet is still with the eclipse pack so tomorrow after the event she can go back with you Mr. Stone and you can begin your new life.”

I could see the disappointment in Matt’s eyes that had to wait another day, he was already thrown off balance when her father had her stay while we jumped through hoops to make them happy.

“It's one more day, come on let’s go" I mind linked him

The two of us grabbed our bags and got the hell out of this stuffy place as fast as we could.

“If this wasn’t for you I would have left that first night. This was such a waste of time.”

“I know, thanks for keeping your cool the whole time.”

" What was Alpha Miles so huffy about anyway?"

" Nothing important, The geezer squad are just uptight tools i swear. And then forcing us to join their event a day after keeping us all cooped up like that. I hope we aren't angry old wolves when we get to their age."

“Does that mean you feel indebted to me so much that you will go in my place for this party?”

“If I could, you know I would. But these old men seem to be stuck on tradition to the letter.”

“It’s a good thing that the treaty isn’t really anything that puts changes for us to help if they are under attack and attend certain events other than that it was stuff we already did in our pack anyway.”

I swear the drive home seemed to take even longer. Matt stopped at the bakery in Dire Wolf and grabbed a dozen of those cupcakes to bring home to Lily.

Better safe than hit with a frying pan
