Pallet hummed softly as he stared at his latest masterpiece, the young creature was the youngest son of the 5th Demon to be created, Knowledge. His mother had told Pallet since he was hatched that his father was a very busy person and that Pallet should never bother him, Pallet like the good little boy he was determined to be always promised his mother that he wouldnt go to find his father. Ever. His mother had been a changeling drone, going by the name of Spring, her scales had been green while Knowledge's were mostly silver with some blue at least thats what his mom had told him. All of this information might of seemed rather unimportant to you but Pallet it was priceless.
The little Halfling was about to have his tenth Hatching Day, and he had decided that for it he wanted to give his dad a picture. Most other Hatchlings in the Hive where he lived with his mom wanted to get a present, most asked for sweet honeycombs or a few more colorful glowing gems to light up the dark rocky caverns they called their home. The other Hatchlings always got what they asked for, though it was never much, they wernt greedy and they knew that their parents couldnt get them everything.
Last year on his Hatching Day he had asked his mummy for a rainbow and she had happily gotten him one, though the paint hadnt been exactly what he had been expecting. within a few weeks their little cave was a brightly painted place with splatters of color everywhere. The Queen of the Hive had even come over to see the newly painted cave, Queen Nectar had seemed a little upset at first and had had a few grown up words with his mother until Pallet had walked over with a picture he had painted on a rock and happily showed it to her. The Queen had been silent as the paint covered little boy happily jabbered on about the little painting of her, it wasnt very good yet, just a bit of purple and some white but he had been so excited to show it to her even though it wasnt quite done yet.
The Queen had gone quiet for a bit after that and had asked to be shown the rest of his paintings which Pallet happily complied with. He showed the Queen through the parts of the house he had painted, excitedly showing her everything he had painted and telling her how he wanted to paint a lot more but he had run out of paint.
After showing the Queen around and giving her the rock he had painted her on she promised to get him more paint so long as he stopped painting on the cavern floor outside of his mothers cave. He happily agreed and had gone back to painting his room and rocks the very next day he had gotten more paint.
He carefully dipped the tip of his tail into a small clay jar of green paint, lifting it to the canvas cloth infront of him he painstakingly added a few details to the grass in his picture. He was very proud of it, it combined the beautiful cavern that he lived in with what little he had seen of the world outside of the hive, he had painted his mother into it, as well as what he thought himself to look like. They had no mirrors down in the cave, it was far too dark for them to be of use. He had plans to paint his father into the picture as well, but he didnt really know what he looked like, his mommy had never told him much beyond his colors.
Packing away his paints and cleaning the colors off of his feather tuffed tail the little Halfling made his way out of his room over to the main room where his mother was waiting for him, he was going to ask her if they could go see his daddy for his Hatching Day present.
