Chapter 1
I waited on the mountaintop for five full hours, but Nadia Hill never came. All I got were updates from her i********:, showing her meeting up with her online lover. In the photos, she held a large bouquet of roses, the starry sky roof of a Rolls-Royce behind her. The caption read, Watching the most beautiful starry sky with the one I love the most!
The night wind was cold on my face, but it couldn't compare to the chill in my heart. Ever since she met Taylor Evans six months ago, his name was constantly on her lips. She boasted about how Taylor's garage housed a Rolls-Royce in every color and how a casual meal with him cost tens of thousands of dollars.
Meanwhile, I, who was wholly focused on my startup, was relegated to a boring and poor loser in her eyes. Initially, I didn't pay much attention, thinking that the online world was full of smoke and mirrors and that it wouldn't spill over into reality. However, last week, he actually sent her lingerie, and the size was exactly hers.
We had a huge fight about it. She thought I was making a big deal out of nothing, saying I wasn't even worthy of comparing to Taylor. Little did she know, my father was an oil tycoon, whose reputation not only reached international acclaim but whose net worth was in the tens of billions. I had originally planned to formally introduce her to my parents after my startup succeeded.
This meteor shower, worth eight hundred million dollars, was also a long-prepared marriage proposal. But now it seemed that it was just my wishful thinking. I watched the entire meteor shower alone on the mountaintop before getting up with numb legs and heading home. It was already dawn when I entered the house.
Nadia was happily taking pictures of the diamond ring in her hand. When she caught sight of me, her face immediately fell. "Where have you been fooling around?"
"It was my birthday yesterday. Not only did you pretend to disappear, but you also stayed out all night. How can you talk about love when you can't even afford a gift?" I hadn't slept all night and had been exposed to the wind all night, leaving me dizzy and lightheaded. I didn't say anything and just glanced at the untouched greeting card on the table. Following my gaze, Nadia seemed to have just remembered.
After a moment of silence, she said, "It's the thunderstorm season. What meteor shower? Besides, you really didn't want to spend a penny on my birthday, did you?" She raised her hand, showing off the pigeon-blood diamond ring. "This pink diamond cost Taylor three million dollars at an auction. Look at him, then look at yourself. Can you even take out fifty dollars from your pocket?"
Looking at Nadia, who was smug, I found it laughable. A mere three million dollars had made her this arrogant. If only she would open that greeting card, she would know that my net worth had already exceeded one hundred million dollars, and she was the sole heir I had in mind. However, none of that mattered now.
I carefully put the greeting card back into my pocket and decisively broke up with her. Nadia froze for a moment, then shouted in disbelief, "What did you say? Do you have the nerve to break up with me? I haven't even dumped you, you good-for-nothing!"
I didn't retort and went straight back to my room. Seeing that I didn't lower my head and admit my mistake as I usually did but started to pack my luggage instead, her pupils shrank, and she screamed, "Fine, let's break up then! Taylor is an heir from a wealthy family. He drives a limited edition Rolls-Royce, and even his license plate number is anxious. You, a poor wretch, wouldn't even be able to afford an umbrella from his car even if you worked your whole life!"
My hand, which was packing, paused, and I turned to look at Nadia at the door. The Rolls-Royce I bought last year was one of only three in the world. To show off, I even spent a fortune to get a luxurious license plate.

After Nadia left, the more I thought about it, the more something felt wrong. But right now, I don't have the energy to worry about it. My startup was in its most critical financing stage, and tonight's partnership was crucial. Initially, the reason I didn't reveal my identity was that my parents didn't approve of Nadia's family background.
To prove our love for each other, I made a promise to my family: to start a company within three years. If she could accompany me through the hardships, without abandoning me, my parents would agree to the marriage and truly accept Nadia. And I would confess everything to her, telling her that I was not a good-for-nothing.
Just as the company was getting on track, reality slapped me hard in the face. I didn't dwell on it any longer and quickly packed my things and went to the company. Although I had broken up with Nadia, the company had taken a lot of my effort since its establishment. I wouldn't give up easily.
After two hours of negotiation with the partner, the cooperation was successfully finalized. Looking at the freshly signed contract in my hand, I was ecstatic and drove straight back to my parents' house. When my father, Mason Phillips, found out, he nodded in satisfaction and praised me endlessly. "Well done, you are indeed my son. I knew you wouldn't disappoint me!"
He took a sip of coffee and then changed the subject. "By the way, didn't you say on the phone last time that you were going to bring your girlfriend back? Where is she? When are you planning to bring her back?"
I lowered my eyes slightly. "We just broke up this morning." My father was taken aback for a moment, then waved his hand to comfort me. "Now that you've broken up, don't think about it anymore."
I nodded. All I wanted to do now was focus on my career. Before I left, I casually asked the housekeeper about the Rolls-Royce with the special license plate. The housekeeper replied respectfully, "I asked the new servant to drive it for a wash, Mr. Phillips. Do you need to use it?"
I waved my hand thoughtfully, probably knowing what was going on. As the cooperation progressed smoothly, the company gradually got on the right track. This day, Kevin Hernandez, my business partner, suggested that we all go out to celebrate. After the drinks, it was already two o'clock in the morning.
Kevin and the others were still not satisfied and planned to go to other places to continue drinking, but I was already exhausted. After saying goodbye to Kevin and the others at the entrance of the bar, I walked towards the parking area. However, I never expected to meet Nadia here.
Obviously, Nadia saw me too. She staggered towards me, reeking of alcohol. "Why are you here? You're like a ghost that won't go away!"
"Don't tell me you couldn't bear to break up with me and deliberately came here to 'bump into' me!" Looking at her drunken appearance, I didn't bother talking to a drunkard and tried to bypass her to leave. Unexpectedly, she actually blocked my way. "Why aren't you saying anything? Cat got your tongue? Weren't you yelling at me a few days ago?" As she spoke, she pushed me with her hand, which I dodged with a sidestep.
"You're being unreasonable" I threw down and walked quickly towards my car. Seeing me getting into the car, Samuel, the driver, started the engine, and I leaned back in my seat to take a nap. Before the car had traveled for a few minutes, there was a loud bang. My whole body almost slammed into the front seat.
It took me a while to recover, and then I realized that my car had been rear-ended. I looked closely and saw that it was my Rolls-Royce with the license plate that had rear-ended me.
Looking at the familiar decorations on the driver's seat, I was certain that this Rolls-Royce was the one I bought last year. Just as I was about to go up and check, the person in the Rolls-Royce got out. It was Nadia and her best friend, Victoria Harris. Nadia obviously knew I was in the car in front. She put one hand on the car door and raised her eyebrows at me provocatively.
Then she walked up to me and said arrogantly, "Matthew, you hit my car. You have to take full responsibility!" I frowned. Seeing a long scratch on the rear of the car and the dented front of the other Rolls-Royce, my blood pressure started to rise.
I sneered, "Who's fully responsible is not up to you to decide. You were drunk driving and deliberately scratched my car. What's with the attitude?"
"Your crappy car wouldn't even be enough to buy one part of mine even if you sold it. This car of mine is a global limited edition, you understand?" I laughed, walked up to her, and knocked on the hood of the Rolls-Royce. "How can you be sure this car is yours?"
The two in front of me were stunned, then laughed so hard they couldn't straighten up. "Or is it yours? This guy is really daydreaming. Everything is yours. Why don't you just say the whole earth is yours? Just wait. I'm going to call Taylor right now and ask him to teach you a lesson!"
With that, she took out her phone to call Taylor. "Taylor, come quickly..." I glanced at Samuel beside me and signaled him to call the traffic police. After hanging up the phone, she glared at me fiercely. "Taylor is not short of money. It's not as simple as paying for car repairs now!" Victoria beside her echoed. "That's right. We must teach this poor bastard a lesson."
*****
I nodded seriously. Of course, it wasn't as simple as paying for the repairs. When the police came, we would settle old and new accounts together. Ten minutes later, Taylor finally arrived in a hurry. He didn't even look at Nadia and went straight to the Rolls-Royce.
When he saw that the front of the Rolls-Royce was somewhat deformed, his face turned extremely ugly. He immediately turned to Nadia and shouted angrily, "How did you drive? How did you crash the car like this!" Seeing that Taylor not only didn't stand up for her but also got angry at her,
Nadia was both angry and aggrieved. She simply pointed at me and shouted, "It's all his fault for hitting our car, Taylor! Your family has power and influence, you can't let him off easily!" Taylor walked around the Rolls-Royce twice with a gloomy face, nervously checking everywhere.
I turned to Samuel beside me and confirmed Taylor's identity again. "Do you know this man?" Samuel's face didn't look good either. He leaned close to my ear and whispered, "Mr. Phillips, he's the newly hired driver. He was supposed to take the car for maintenance these two days. I didn't expect him to..."
I nodded knowingly. As expected. Nadia's beloved rich boyfriend from the internet was just my newly hired driver. I wondered how she would react when she learned this news! At this time, Taylor looked at me aggressively. "Who are you? Do you know how much this car costs? You wouldn't be able to afford it even if you worked for ten lifetimes..."
But when his eyes swept over Samuel behind me, his voice abruptly stopped, and his whole body froze in place, his face visibly turning pale. The temperature outside was already close to zero degrees Celsius, but beads of sweat were dripping from Taylor's forehead, and his body was trembling slightly.
Nadia, however, didn't notice the tense atmosphere. She pulled Taylor's arm and whined, "Taylor, it's all their fault, make them pay!"
I looked at Nadia and Taylor with interest. "Oh? Pay? How much do you want me to pay?" "The front of the car is all smashed like this, it shouldn't be cheap!"
Hearing what I said, Taylor trembled even more violently. Nadia held Taylor's arm, her tone rather smug. "You have good taste. You know it's not cheap!"
"Don't worry. We won't rip you off, you poor thing. When the repair details come out, you can just pay the price!" I nodded. "You're right, I should pay the price!" As we were talking, the traffic police arrived. After watching the dashcam footage, the traffic police officer had a clear understanding of the situation. The officer glanced at Taylor. "Are you the owner of this Rolls-Royce?"
Taylor stammered and didn't dare to speak. Instead, Nadia was the first to nod. "Yes, officer, you have to uphold justice for us. You can't let this hit-and-run driver get away with it!" At the same time, I calmly stepped forward and handed over my driver's license. "Officer, these are my documents. Both of these cars are mine."
Nadia exploded upon hearing this. "Matthew, have you no shame? You still dare to pretend in front of the traffic police!"
"You're really addicted to acting, aren't you? You hit my car, I'm going to kill you! Our Taylor can make you disappear from here with a snap of his fingers!" After saying that, she pulled on the pale Taylor beside her. "Taylor, say something!"
