7. Prisoner

Knox's P.O.V ''Yeah, because I was afraid of him, but you aren't him! You are nothing like him!" She whispered quietly. ''You don't know that!" I replied, just as quiet, as memories flooded back into my head. Kane tried to push them away and comfort me, but I didn't listen. The voices were stronger than his. The shield I had built around my heart just got stronger, all the little cracks in it being restored in seconds. ''I do!" She shouted annoyed as she slowly walked over to me, afraid I would snap again. But I didn't. Instead, I absentmindedly watched her every movement, pulling myself away from the thoughts that were hazing my mind and pulling me back to the dreadful times. ''Because if you were, you wouldn't have saved me!" She said as kneeled in front of me, placing a hand on my right leg, which was bouncing up and down. My expression was unreadable as I masked the bomb of feelings that were threatening to escape. I was just like him. A powerful beast, that would hurt anyone around him. A beast unworthy of anyone in his life. A beast, who couldn't protect his own mother, when she needed him. I snapped out of my daze as I heard my sister get back to her feet. I watched as she sat back in her seat and dusted her navy blue jeans. Her eyes never left mine as she observed my every move and tried to figure out my emotions. Little did she know, she had never been able to. The uncomfortable silence drowned us, the only sound coming from pack members running around the house. We continued looking at each other until Rose's eyes looked away. Her gaze was now averted to her lap as she fiddled with a bracelet on her wrist. ''As I was saying, my mate-" She started, her voice growing quiet on the last part. It was almost as if she was afraid I would break something else but lucky for her, the shield was back up in full force. Thankfully, she managed to remind me exactly why I pushed wolves away and why I wouldn't be bringing a new one into my life. ''He noticed you were down. What's wrong?" She asked, concern lacing her voice as she spoke. I cracked my knuckles but remained quiet for a while as she studied my features, even if she had known me her entire life. ''Tell your mate!" I spat the words in her face. ''To stay away from my business!" I growled lowly, showing her exactly how serious I was being. ''Or maybe find yours so you can stop being an asshole!" She shouted, but this time her tone didn't surprise me. If I knew my sister and her wolf even a little, which I did, the one thing that angered them the most was when someone disrespected or threatened their mate, but that didn't mean that I was going to tolerate her childish behavior. I stood up, placed my fists on the table, and leaned closer to her. ''Out!" I demanded through gritted teeth before sitting back in my chair. She composed herself and glared at me. ''Don't forget that you aren't stronger than me, Knox!" She warned and turned on her heel to leave, probably going to cry on Zane's shoulder. I slumped back in my chair, shoulders sagging with frustration. My hands met my hair again, getting stuck in knots here and there. I hadn't had the motivation, nor will to do my hair since Kane wouldn't let me sleep so I let it be. It was growing long and untamed, but at least it took focus from the bags under my eyes away. I was also starting to grow some scruff that prickled my face because I wouldn't shave, and sadly, I could tell the unmated she-wolves loved it. I found myself scattering through reports again, or that one girl's report to be exact. This time, however, for an entirely different reason. I needed to return her to her pack before it became too late before I didn't have it in me to fight the bond. I let out a loud, irritated sigh and rested my forehead on the desk. Not only was I having no luck at all, but the office was a mess. There were wooden splinters from earlier today covering the ground, along with hundreds of papers and reports. My desk was broken from my grip on it and overall the room could barely be seen as a room anymore, it resembled a trash can way more. I had stumbled across each report, each paper, except for hers. It was like she was erased from Earth, like she had no identity or family looking for her. There were no news of her missing, no sign of anything related to her. Very quickly I realized that something was terribly wrong. I mind-linked the Omegas to come clean up the office and then linked Zane to meet me outside for a run since I had no faith in sleeping anymore. Less than five minutes later my Beta and I had shifted into our wolves, Kane towering over Zion. He puffed his chest out with pride, earning himself a playful growl. My wolf tackled his to the ground and they rolled around in the mud, enjoying being out. They played and wrestled for a while before stopping in front of a lake to drink some water. Zion splashed Kane's fur, which my wolf didn't appreciate. He ran over, using his Alpha speed, and pushed the Beta wolf into the lake. He shook his fur and growled, swiping under Kane's paws, making him also fall in the water. My wolf bit his ear and growled playfully at his opponent. Soon, they grew tired and cold of their game and sat on the grass to rest. Our wolves loved the feeling of their underbellies being in contact with the grass. It lightly tickled, but also served them as a soft blanket over the hard ground. As big as Kane was, he acted like a small pup, sniffing each and every flower he could spot. He walked over to a spot with some yellow flowers, inhaling their scent and nuzzling his nose in the plant. ''You're such a pup!" I mocked him. ''And you're such a grump!" He mumbled, causing me to roll my eyes. The wolves' bellies protested in hunger and my Beta and I let them have full control for a while so they could eat. The animals hungrily licked their muzzles. Kane caught the faint snap of a twig and gestured for Zion to follow him. They saw two deers drinking water from the same lake they had been drinking from, their hunger growing at the delicious sight. The two positioned themselves on their hind legs, getting ready to attack. They pounced on the deers, ripping them limb by limb as blood gushed, covering the ground. Silence engulfed the forest as the wolves ate their prey's delicate meat. They chewed on the bones, enjoying the flavor, before letting Zane and I take control back. Kane retracted to the furthest corner of my mind, curled into a ball, and fell asleep. I put my clothes back on and waited until Zane did the same. He came from behind a tree, suppressing a yawn as it was already late at night and some of us still slept. ''We have a problem," I stated. He nodded and we went back to sitting on the damp grass, definitely not enjoying the feeling as much as our wolves did. ''One of the girls has no information on her. It's like she has no identity." He listened to me carefully and looked away, deep in thought. ''Alpha, is it possible that you didn't find it?" He finally asked, making me realize he probably wouldn't be of much help. ''No, Beta, I have been working all day, I'm telling you there's nothing about her," I said annoyed. ''Right." He whispered underneath his breath. ''I can try contacting packs with her photo?" He requested. I thought about it for a little before nodding my head. ''I expect a report by the end of the week." With that we both got up and went back home, except that I didn't go to bed as a normal wolf would, I found myself in front of the gates to the prisons. The pack prison was underneath the house, being guarded by over twenty warriors at all times. It was separated into two parts based on the severity of the crime the wolf committed. The right side was cleaner and there was a window, which was opened once a day to filter air. The bars of the cells were normal metal, the prisoners received two small meals a day and those that went there were mostly thieves of something small or potential suspects, which weren't pleaded guilty yet. The left side, however, was the closest you could get to hell on earth. Wolves all over the world talked about the left side, some things true, some things not. Very few managed to survive their sentence, but even they were never normal after their stay. It was dirty and uncleaned, there were no windows, making the air damp and hard to breathe. The bars of the cells were coated in silver, burning the skin of those too dumb to believe they could escape. The prisoners on the left side received only one meal a day. The wolves that went there were mostly murderers, thieves, and rapists. One of the prisoners, living on the left side, was the blond guy I had captured when the pack and I rescued the she-wolves. His scent somehow reminded me of the girl's and for some unknown reason, I needed to know why. I walked through the long corridors of cells earning myself growls and snarls from some prisoners, while others barely had the strength to even move. The dampness of the air filled my nostrils, making it harder to breathe the further I walked. The place was so dark I could barely see, had it not been for the small torch I carried with me. Sniffing out the wolf, I found him sitting on the ground with cuts and bruises from the battle all over his face. Even with the darkness, I could see his busted lip, which still hadn't been cleaned from the blood that had trickled down from it. A warrior opened the cell and I entered before hearing the loud thud behind me. The warrior stood outside, barely a few inches away, ready to open the cell whenever I needed him to. Hearing the loud thud, the guy lifted his head to look at me. He glared at me for a while before spitting in my direction. I wipe the tiny bit of saliva that landed on me with a dark, blood-stopping chuckle. ''If you think you will make your way out of here with this behavior you are very wrong!" He scoffed, shaking his head to remove a lock that had fallen in front of his eyes. ''I don't need to leave. The only thing I'm sad about is that I won't get to see your ending." His voice was hoarse, having been barely used in the past few weeks that he had been a prisoner. His eyes held nothing, but hate, not an ounce of fear in his gaze nor aura. My warrior let out a loud growl upon hearing a threat directed at his alpha. I turned around, shushing him, before turning my attention back to the blonde man in front of me. I slowly walked closer until he was barely an inch away, but still, there was not an ounce of fear in that man. I kicked the side of his stomach, but he barely reacted, only grunting in response. Kane growled in my mind and pushed for control, his red eyes replacing my grey ones and his claws taking place instead of my nails. He growled again before sniffing him and retracting back to my head, letting me gain control once more. ''Something's wrong. Very wrong." Kane mumbled thoughtfully. ''Can you figure out what it is?" He hummed first a little before replying. ''A witch's spell." He said, my blood boiling in anger.
