TENSED SILENCE surrounded the boutique when Pearl, Richard and Andrei were gone. I was speechless because I was still trying to process everything that happened. Most of all, Pearl’s final words made me uncomfortable in a way that I couldn’t explain. Was she talking about Sasha? Hosea already mentioned her to me a couple of times. He said she was his childhood best friend. Based on his stories, he and Sasha are really close. When he talked about her with affection on his tone I thought they must be like siblings. Why did Pearl talk about their relationship that way?
