Luke's POV:
Granny has been taking the medicines for more than a week. There has been no result. She feels worse. I don't know what this sickness is. I want her to beat it. I called the doctor three days ago, and he told me to keep giving her the medicines. If there is no result in the next two days, he will come to check on her. Hopefully, she will be ok. Grandpa is always with her, but he can't do anything. I don't know what happened. In the beginning, it looked like she was ok. Then something happened, and she became worse. I have no idea what to do to help her. Maybe Abby is right. Granny is old enough, and any sickness can be dangerous for her. At least my grandpa is healthy for now. I mean, he is with granny and can get sick too. Luckily, nothing of this has happened yet. That's why I thought to call my mom but gave up. Since they don't care about me, they won't care about their parents either. I will deal with this alone. At least Abby is with me. I know she will help me with everything. Sometimes I think she is the only one I have. Her dad still doesn't like me, but I don't care. He can't tell his daughter what to do. She is not a little kid anymore. I haven't told my brother either. Otherwise, he will get worried and will come here. He is a doctor as well, by not this type. Sam is a surgeon. I will never become this. That is way too much stress for me. The life of every person is in Sam's hands. I won't be able to do it. That's why I will work as something else. For now, I will be a waiter. If something better comes up, I will sign for it. Well, I can't do many things. As long as someone teaches me, I'll be fine. For now, what matters is my granny to get better. I will call the doctor to come and see her. I hope that it's nothing serious and soon she will be fine. I don't want to lose her.
I woke up and went to get ready for the day. Later, I will call the doctor the come check on my granny. She doesn't feel well and barely gets out of bed. I continue giving her the medicines. Well, it looks like they are not working. Maybe the doctor will tell her to take new ones. I thought she might not be sick, but I gave up on that. I'm not a doctor, so I can't tell what is wrong with her. Sam can't help me, either. It's better if her doctor sees her. He will understand what is wrong with her.
When I was ready, I took my phone and called the doctor. He said he would come as soon as possible. Now he has some work, but soon he'll be here. I texted Abby to be here. Right now, I don't want to be alone. I walked to my granny's room to check on her. She was sleeping. Sometimes I get scared that she will never wake up. I sat on the bed and looked at her. I want to help her more than anything, but I can't. Soon I felt a hand on my shoulder. It was my grandpa.
- She will be fine.
- Why are you so sure?
- Your grandmother is strong. She won't let anything beat her.
- She is getting older, and I'm afraid she won't be able to fight for long.
- You have to think more positively. She will be fine. I promise you.
- I hope so.
- If you believe in something, it will happen faster.
- Where did you read that?
- Nowhere. I know it. Many times it has happened to me.
- Really?
- How do you think I started dating your grandmother?
- What?
- I wanted it so much that I started praying she would go out with me. As you can see, we are together.
- Was she your first girlfriend?
- Yes, she was. There were many girls in my school, but she was the prettiest. I loved her so much that I was ready to do everything for her. I mean, even taking her to the moon. No matter that I can't do it.
- Don't promise things that you can't keep.
- It looks like you have learned something.
- After all, I am dating a girl as well.
- You will realize many things. All you have to do is be patient.
- I hope that I won't break her heart.
- You won't. As I see it, she loves you a lot. I'm sure you two will be fine.
- I don't know. She never said it.
- But it's true.
I turned around to see Abby. She was looking at me with a smile and worried eyes. I know she wants to help as well. Well, we can't do anything. Hopefully, the doctor will come soon.
- Really?
- Yes. I didn't know when to say it. Lately, too many things have happened. It wasn't the right time.
- I don't think it will ever come.
- Maybe, but we have other things to worry about. How is she?
- She is still the same.
- I'm sorry.
- It's ok. The doctor will come soon.
After half an hour, the doctor was at home. Granny woke up, and he checked her. He thought she was sick, but I think there is something more.
- Ok, tell me how you feel.
- I feel a bit weak. I don't have much energy. It's like I can't get out of bed. I feel the need to lay down all the time.
- I think it's better if I take you to the hospital. I will tell the nurse what the problem is. I have no problem coming here, but there is not much I can do. Look, it will be better if you come to the hospital.
- I don't think I will get there.
- I will drive you.
- But you don't have to do it for me.
- Hey, I care about my patients. It's my free day, so I have enough time.
- Can I come? - I asked
- I will drive us, boy. - grandpa said
- Ok, I will take her. Can you stand up?
- I will try.
The doctor took my granny to his car. Abby and I went to my grandpa's car. All of us drove to the hospital. Why all of this is happening? She didn't do anything to anyone. I hope that she will be fine. I don't want the worst thing possible to happen.
- Ok, soon the nurse will come.
- Thank you.
- How do you feel, granny?
- I will be fine. You don't have to worry about me.
- How am I not supposed to?
- Why don't you take Abby and go somewhere?
- What? I'm not moving out of here.
- Look at her. She is hurt watching you like that. Go somewhere and have fun. Please don't stay here with me.
- What if something happens?
- The doctor is here to take care of me. Go and live your life.
- But it won't be the same if you're not in it.
- Dear, I'll be fine. Take Abby and go somewhere.
- Ok, fine. If that is what you want, I'll do it.
- Thank you. Now go.
- Ok, ok. I'll be back soon.
- In the next two hours, I don't want you here.
- But granny!
- There is no but. Go. Now!
- Fine. Let's go, Abby.
- Where are we going?
- I don't know. You can decide.
Both Abby and I walked out of the hospital. I thought we would go somewhere, but she stopped and looked at me. I don't understand what is going on here. She didn't say anything and hugged me.
- Abby, is everything ok?
- You don't have to go out with me. Go back inside. I will come later.
- No, no. Some fresh air we'll be good for me.
- I don't want you to stay away from granny because of me.
- It's ok. I should think less about her.
- Are you ok?
- Yes. I'll be fine.
- Are you sure?
- I am. Let's go now. We can drink something.
- I won't deny it.
Abby and I walked to the nearest place for drinks. We couldn't drink them there, so we went to a park. I sat down on a bench, and she snuggled. I think she is upset, but I don't know why. She and my granny got close in the last two weeks. Honestly, my granny has liked Abby since she met her. I'm glad that both of them understand each other so quickly.
- Will you tell me what the problem is?
- There is no problem.
- Abby, I know you. It's visible that you are upset.
- I.
- Granny will be fine. The doctor knows what he is doing.
- What will you do after graduation?
- Working, what else?
- I don't know where I want to study.
- There is enough time.
- The thing is that if I go to another city, you won't be with me. That is the problem.
- Now I get it. How bad do you want to be with me?
- What?
- Answer me.
- More than anything.
- Ok, then. You can tell me when you decide where you want to be. I will come with you.
- Really?
- Yes. Please tell me what you want, and I'll do it.
- What if I want to go to Mars?
- That is a bit hard for me. Well, I'll find a way. - I said, chuckling
- Please don't.
- I am your ghost from the magic lamp.
- I don't need one, but thanks.
- Thank you for being with me all this time. I appreciate it.
- No problem. I will always be by your side.
- Abby?
- Yes.
- I love you.
- I love you too. - she said and kissed me
Abby and I stayed in the park for a while. Granny will be fine. Also, I wanted to spend some time with my girlfriend. Sometimes, I still can't believe that I have one. I kissed the top of her head and held her tightly. After all, my granny might be right. I am richer than Sam because I have everything I need. Spending time with her is the best thing ever. I need to do it more often. The thing is that no one will take care of my grandparents. Grandpa is still in good condition, but I don't know for how long this will be. It's better if I stay with them now. Later I will have all the time in the world for Abby. She won't run away. Well, if I don't do something to make her do it. Hopefully, I won't be an i***t.
After some time, Abby and I walked back to the hospital. Grandpa was sleeping on the small couch inside the room. I know he can't stay up for a long time.
- Hey, granny. How are you?
- Oh, hey. I am fine. The nurses are very nice to me.
- I'm glad to hear that.
- How was your walk?
- It was ok. I needed that.
- See? That's why you should listen to me more often.
- Ok, ok. I will do it in the future.
- Abby, how are you, dear?
- I'm fine, thanks. It's good that you are getting better.
- Well, I'm trying. - my granny said, chuckling
- I see that my grandpa is knocked out. - I said, laughing
- Can you convince him to go home? He wants to stay here all night.
- Don't worry. I am scared of the dark.
- Really? - Abby asked, looking at me
- No, but he doesn't know it. Don't worry. I will talk with him once he wakes up.
- Thank you.
- Granny, do you want us to buy you something to eat? - Abby asked
- No need to do it. Here the nurse serves me delicious food. Well, it's not as good as when you and Luke cook together.
- Dream about it as long as you want. I won't do this again. - I said, chuckling
- Why? When you two live together, you need to help her.
- I will, but there is enough time for that.
- Abby, dear, are you ok?
I looked at Abby, who was lost in her thoughts. I guess she still thinks about this. It will be a bit hard, but we'll deal with this. I won't leave her alone, and she knows it.
- Don't think about this. Everything will be fine.
- If I move out, you don't have a place to stay. Forget it. I will study here.
- No, Abby. Go where you want to go. Don't think about me. I'll be fine.
- But I want to think about you. I want to be worried about you. I want to be with you. - she said with tears in her eyes
- Nothing of this will change. I promise you. No one and nothing will separate us.
- I hope so.
- You'll see.
Abby stayed with my granny and me until dinnertime. She said it's better if she's at home. I guess she is still fighting with her dad. I could've asked her. Now was not the time for this. Also, it might be sensitive for her. I'll leave this conversation for another time. Granny had her dinner. I don't know how good the food is here, but I'm glad she likes it. After all, she has to eat.
- Grandpa, do you want me to buy you something?
- No, thanks.
- Please go home. I will be fine. Look how many people take care of me. - granny said
- I know, but I have to be the one doing it.
- Nothing will happen to me. I judged Luke for worrying too much, but you are the same.
- There is something called care. I care about you.
- Well, we have been together for many years.
- Many more will come.
- I don't need anything else. I already have what I need. You have to keep Abby close to you. It's visible that she wants to be with you for a long time.
- Don't worry, granny. She won't go anywhere. I won't let her.
- You two will have a great future together.
- I hope so. I would love to keep her next to me.
- You don't have to worry about that. Abby won't go anywhere.
I stayed with my granny for a while. Finally, I managed to take my grandpa home. He wanted to stay in the hospital, but I convinced him to come home. Even if he stays here, he can't do anything. Watching someone in the hospital is not the best view. It's better if he does something for distraction. I will help him with that. Maybe tomorrow we can do something together. It will be grandpa-grandson time. It won't be the same as being with my granny. I want him to think about something more positive. I hope that soon she will be ok and can come home. She needs to recover.
