Abby's POV:
For the past week, Luke's grandma didn't feel very well. She probably got sick. That's what we are hoping. The woman has passed her seventies, and any sickness can be dangerous. My boyfriend has called her family doctor. She and his grandpa are visiting the same doctor. He checked her and said she might be sick. It's better if he does some tests in the hospital. Luke's grandpa drove her there. Now we are waiting for the results. My boyfriend got worried again. I understand his concern, but no one is immortal. I know he wants to be with them as long as possible. That's why no one knows how long his grandparents will live. If his granny is sick, that is better. A disease is worse. Honestly, everything happening to her is very bad. I mean, she is old enough. Whenever she gets sick, it can affect her immune system. Both of my grandparents were sick. Well, the ones from my mom's side. I know what he is going through, but he has to enjoy the time with them. Otherwise, he will regret it later. I will try to cheer him up with something. Dad doesn't like that I spend so much time with him. As I have said to him, I won't stop seeing Luke. I don't care what he thinks about him. I love my boyfriend, and I want to help him. I never told him this, but now it's not the time for it. I don't think my dad will ever understand me, so I'll give up on trying. If he has a problem, he can talk to me. It's not like this will change something. At least my mom is on my side. I mean, she is not against Luke. He didn't do anything wrong, but my dad can't see that. I thought giving him some time would help, but I was wrong. I will live my life and won't think about my dad's opinion. It was important to me. Now I have decided to focus on my relationship and my boyfriend. He won't say it, but I know he needs me. I hope that everything with his grandma will be fine. If something happens to her, he won't take it.
Today Luke and I have to go and pick up his granny's test results. Hopefully, there is nothing wrong with her. I believe she got sick, but you never know. We'll go to the hospital after school. I'm sure my boyfriend will have a chat with her doctor. I would love to hear about her condition for the past couple of years. She takes a lot of care of me. I like this woman, and I want her to get better. Let's hope that it's nothing serious.
Currently, I have geography with Luke. He is not paying attention at all. I know what he is thinking, but I can't help him. The teacher gave us our tests ten minutes before the end of the class. Luckily, I did well. I wish I could say the same about my boyfriend. Well, his parents are not here anymore. He doesn't need to stress out over this. When the class finished, Luke walked out without waiting for me. My boyfriend has ignored me since I came here, but I'm not mad. He has a lot of things in his head. I walked after him.
- Hey, you can talk to me.
- I have nothing to say.
- I know you are worried, but she will be fine. You will see.
- This started happening too often.
- Luke, she has passed her seventies. What do you expect? No one can be in perfect health. At some point, people get sick.
- But I want her to live!
- No one said that she would die. Your granny is only sick.
- That is enough for me.
- Everything will be fine. I promise you.
- I hope so.
On the lunch break, Luke and I went to eat. Soon, Jenny came and sat with us. I haven't talked much with her. Well, she is a nice girl. She put the tray down and started eating. Luke was only playing with his food. I took it from him, and he looked at me.
- At least don't play with it.
- I'm sorry.
- I can't believe you two are together. - Jenny said
- It's true.
- After all, the game became real.
- Kind of. We don't play anymore.
- There is no need to. What's the feeling of dating a bad boy?
- He is not bad.
- Yeah, but many girls want him. With what you were different?
- I don't know, but I'm happy with that. - I said, and Luke walked away
- Did I say something?
- No, he has other things in his head.
- He doesn't look much in the mood today.
- All I will say is that he is worried. Everything else is too personal.
- I understand. You don't need to tell me anything.
- Thanks.
- How are things between you two? I thought he couldn't keep a girl.
- Well, we'll see how it will end. For now, we want to see how long we can last. That's it.
- So, this is a test?
- Not exactly. We are together, but the main thing is to see how long we can be together.
- How much time has passed?
- Two months.
- You look happy.
- I am. It's not like I don't have problems, but I'm ignoring them as long as possible.
- Is there something I need to know?
- Dad doesn't like Luke. He invited him for dinner one night. Let's say that things didn't end well. I tried to talk with him a couple of times. We always ended up arguing. I gave him some time, but it didn't work. I don't know what else to do.
- Show him. No matter what he says, you won't leave Luke. If you like him, don't give up on him.
- I don't plan on doing it. I don't care if my dad will accept him or not. He is my boyfriend, and I want to keep him.
- Good. It looks like he needs you.
- I don't know, but I won't leave him alone. I feel good when we are together.
- That's what should matter to you. I mean, your happiness. Don't care what other people tell you. Look at yourself.
- Thank you. It's nice to talk with someone about this.
After school, Luke and I walked to the hospital. We waited for his granny's doctor because he had a patient. My boyfriend was nervous and worried. That is a bad combo. Soon, we walked in, and the doctor pulled out some papers. I believe these are the results. Now I got worried. Hopefully, there is nothing wrong with her.
- How is she? - Luke asked
- Your grandmother is sick. The difference is that she is old and won't take it the same way as you. When I checked on her that day, she had a slight fever. I have written some medicines which you need to buy her. They will make her feel better.
- Can I ask you something?
- Yeah, sure.
- Does she have problems with her heart? I saw her drinking a pill one day. She said it was about her heart.
- It's about her heart rate. You don't have to worry about that. Many of my patients are around her age, and they take it.
- Will she recover?
- Yes, she will, but it might take her some time.
- That's ok. How often she has to take the medicines?
- Here I have written everything. When you go to the pharmacy, they will explain everything to you.
- Ok, thank you. Is there something else I need to know? Granny probably won't tell me.
- No, her health is good. She probably caught a cold. How is your grandpa?
- He is good, and his health is stable.
- Does he take some pills?
- The same as your grandmother for the heart.
- I hope it will help them live longer.
- Don't worry. They will be fine.
- I hope so.
Luke and the doctor talked for a while. I had nothing to say, so I stayed silent. Later, we went to buy the medicines. The total cost was thirty dollars, but I hope they will help. We went to his house. His grandpa was reading a newspaper. Luke tried to teach him how to use the internet, but it was too complicated for him.
- Hey, grandpa. What happened today?
- Nothing, why?
- You are reading the news. Something must have happened. - Luke said, chuckling
- Oh, that thing. I had nothing else to do.
- Where is granny?
- Sleeping in her room. She feels cold.
- Ok. So, Abby and I went to the doctor. He said that granny was fine. She probably got sick. We bought some medicines for her.
- Leave them here. When she wakes up, she will take them.
- Some of them are after food. So she has to eat first.
- Well, we had lunch already.
- Why don't we make dinner? She doesn't feel well. We can help her. - I whispered to Luke
- That is not a bad idea. What should we make?
- I don't know. It better be something simple. I don't know how to cook.
- Me either.
- I'll search for something.
- Grandpa, what will you do today?
- I don't know. Why?
- I will teach you how to use a smartphone.
- Thanks, but that is not for me. It's too complicated.
- How will you take pictures with me if you don't learn to use it?
- What? We have a camera.
- That is so old.
- I found something easy. At least, that's what it looks like. - I said
- Ok, then. We have the main meal.
- I can make a cake later.
- Good.
Since it was early for dinner, I did my homework. I suggested helping Luke, but he denied it. That is his decision. I'm not the one who should tell him what to do. After all, I don't want to be like his parents. My boyfriend was talking with his grandpa. I like that they understand each other so well. Soon, I received a hug. I thought it was Luke, but no. It was granny.
- Hey, you look good.
- Thank you, dear. I feel better.
- Luke and I bought you some medicines. It's better for you if you take them.
- Ok, ok. Let's make dinner.
- Actually, Luke and I want to make it.
- What? You are my guests. I can't let you cook.
- We won't burn anything. I promise. - I said, and she chuckled
- It's not because of that.
- You need to rest. We'll take care of everything.
- What will I do?
- As I said, you need a rest.
- Ok, since you don't want me, I will go away.
- I didn't say that.
- I will lay down in bed.
- Grandpa, why don't you keep her company? - Luke asked
- It looks like I am not wanted here as well.
When they left, Luke and I started with dinner. I decided to make the cake first. It's better if it cools down before we eat it. I want the main meal to be warm. On the internet, I found a recipe for meatballs with white sauce. Of course, I checked if they had all the ingredients before we started cooking. Luckily, they do. The cake took us forty-five minutes with the baking process. I took it out of the bowl. Then I put some powdered sugar on top of it. While it's cooling down, we can make the main meal. Luke and I formed the meatballs. On the recipe, it says to fry them. I think baked it's healthier. It's better if I follow the recipe. I don't want to mess up. We put the meatballs in the pan and started with the sauce. Later, we added it to them. It says to leave them to sit together for half an hour. There were mushrooms, so I cut five into small pieces and put them in the cause.
- I think we did well. - Luke said
- I hope so.
- Should we turn off the stove?
- No, leave them for a while. I will put it on two.
- You said you couldn't cook.
- You too.
- I think we are a great team.
- We can join a cooking competition.
- No, thanks. That's not my passion.
- If you say so.
At 7:30 pm, dinner was ready. Luke called his grandparents while I was setting the table. Everything should be perfect. After all, it's not every day when I cook dinner. If Luke and I live together one day, I should know how. Soon, his grandparents came and sat down. I went to put the main meal. It was a bit hot, but I hope they are patient. I took two plates and put them in from of them.
- That looks delicious. I can't believe you and Luke did this. - granny said, chuckling
- It took us some time, but we did it.
- I'm sure it will taste great.
- You have to wait a bit because it's hot.
- It's ok. I can wait.
- I'll take the other plates and will come back.
- This is delicious.
- Here you go, mister.
- Thank you, miss.
- You two need to cook more often. That is amazing.
- I don't know. We'll think about this.
- I had fun making dinner with you. - I said
- Yes, it was fun, but I'm a boy. Usually, I'm not supposed to be good at this.
- It's ok. I will help you all the time.
- Thanks. I will need this.
- What are your plans after graduating, Abby? - granny asked me
- I don't know. I wanted to chill with Luke. Since he will work, I might do it too. Someone needs to keep an eye on him. - I said, chuckling
- I won't cheat.
- I know, but I don't trust other girls.
- Are you jealous?
- No. I am only keeping my territory.
- Let's say that I believe you.
- Believe whatever you want. I know the truth.
- You can keep him company at work. - Luke's grandpa said
- We'll see.
- Will you go to university later? - granny asked
- Yes, I want to study graphic design. If I work, this will help me pay for my semesters.
- It's good to have a plan. I'm proud of both of you. I'm sure you two will have success. As long as you are together, nothing will stop you. Trust me.
- Thanks. I hope it's true.
- I have an eye for these things, dear.
I stayed until late in Luke's house. Granny offered me to sleep here, but I had to deny it. Mom won't mind, but my dad will. He probably will think that we'll sleep together. I won't deny it. After all, it's only sleeping. We don't do many things. Let's say that we have other things to worry about. One day, when we settle down, we'll think about ourselves. I mean, in a different way than now. What matters now is for his granny to get better. If she takes her medicines, they are supposed to help her. I want to see her healthy and energetic again. I hope that soon she will feel better. I love spending time with her.
