Chapter 14
Megan and Opal talked for only a while longer before Megan saw the injured woman tiring. Not wanting to set back her recovery—or be on the receiving end of Diana’s wrath for over-taxing the patient—Megan said her goodbyes and left the room. After a conspiratorial whisper to Sean to “hang in there”, Megan waved to Diana as she walked by the nurse’s desk.
As she waited for the elevator, Megan fished her phone from the bottom of her purse. She had turned the volume off and tossed it in there when she entered the hospital, not wanting to disturb recovering patients. Peering down at the screen, she saw Lucy had texted her four times, and each message seemed to get progressively more urgent. The same two words formed the text, but by the fourth message, the letters were in all caps,
