Benjamin Harris
After living in France for eight years, Benjamin Harris packed his belongings and said goodbye to the place where he lived while here. It was now time to go back to the place where he was born because his father decided to pass down his position to him.
An arrogant man, a control freak, and a workaholic are only a few words to describe the son of Maximiliano Harris. Once he was back in the United States, he didn't go straight to his parents' house and went to Las Vegas instead. Anyone would be tempted to explore the place, but not him, because he didn't want to waste a chance of closing a good deal.
He explored the place with his friend, Arthur, who will also have a position in the company. He rented an apartment because he will stay in Nevada for a week, and he doesn't want to stay in a hotel.
After closing a deal that will be a huge benefit to his company, Arthur insisted that he enjoy the last day in that city, where unmarried women and casinos are rampant.
"Don't be a party pooper, man. This will serve as a celebration for your promotion as well," Arthur told him, forcing him to drink outside.
"Alright, but we'll not stay for long," Ben surrendered because he couldn't take his friend anymore.
He closed his laptop and stood up to prepare. He opted out of wearing a black suit, and they used their cars to get to the most popular nightclub in town. Benjamin frowned when the booming sound of the music reached his ears. After all, he's someone who would rather be in a peaceful environment. He and Arthur had a huge difference when it came to understanding the word ' relaxing'.
His annoying friend guided him to a table and ordered their drinks. Benjamin ignored everyone around him while his friend was having the time of his life.
A few minutes later, two women approached them. Benjamin was in no mood for chit-chat, so his friend sacrificed himself and took both of them to the dance floor. Ben got tired of the flashing lights that were hurting his eyes, so he stood up and went to the bar in the hope that the sound was less there.
He had to bump into people on his way there and ignore the looks he was receiving from the women, as well as some men.
He was a bit relieved when he finally reached the bar and sat on the stool. A young woman who was playing with the cherry from her glass caught his attention, and he smiled a bit. He watched her for a few seconds and found her to be a beautiful girl, but her expression changed when a man disturbed her.
Benjamin was not the type to approach every beautiful woman he encountered, and he honestly didn't need to. His handsome features were enough to attract any woman he liked without doing anything. Still, he was not a fan of doing that either. He's not a fan of casual meetings with people he doesn't know.
He was a cold and arrogant man who would not waste his time on anything or anyone; however, this time, he got involved. He rescued the woman he had admired earlier, and when the drunkard asked him the reason why he was interfering, he blurted out that he was her boyfriend without hesitation.
Benjamin didn't think that the small occurrence would result in what happened next. The woman talked to him and kissed him out of nowhere, but he returned it with enthusiasm.
When their lips separated, the woman did not pull away and even invited him to leave. Ben did not think twice and looked for Arthur to inform him he was leaving, but he failed to see him, so he pulled the woman out of that place to his apartment.
They drank a few bottles, exchanged a few words, shared a kiss, and ended the night with unforgettable s*x.
When the sun rose, the sun lit his face, and Benjamin woke up. He felt tired somehow because he couldn't remember the last time he spent the night with someone. He sat up and forced himself awake. He turned to the spot beside him in the hope of seeing the woman who sucked the energy out of him, but to his disappointment, she was no longer there.
He thought she was in the bathroom, but he was left disappointed again when he saw the opened door. He sighed and decided to search for her everywhere, but stopped when he saw a note on the table. Proof that the woman he spent the night with is gone. The woman he spent the night with is gone.
Benjamin ran his fingers through his hair, and he felt disappointed and sad. He had never felt anything like this before. The moment he read the words written there, he was left confused. Thank you? She had fun? What did she mean by that? He walked to the shower to get rid of the alcohol in his system and the soreness in his body.
Days passed, and he went back to California. He visited his parents and managed the paperwork for his apartment. He's used to living alone, and he won't change that.
Two months after he came back, he finally visited H&M, the company he took over, and met the employees.
"You will replace me soon," his father told him. He was proud that he would soon pass his position on to his one and only child, Benjamin. He will soon manage the company in that cream-colored office.
"I need an assistant," Benjamin stated while he was studying the papers in his hands and placing them on the marbled table.
"Oh, that won't be a problem because Evangeline will assist you," his father told him with a delighted voice.
"Evangeline?"
"Yes, Evangeline Anderson. She's been working for me for six years. She's efficient and diligent, and I'm sure you will like her."
Benjamin raised an eyebrow because he had yet to meet the woman his father mentioned, or maybe he had failed to notice her.
"Well, I hope she can catch up," he arrogantly said.
"Of course, but I have a warning," Max, who suddenly turned serious, told his son. "Don't get romantically involved with Evie," he warned him, and Benjamin looked at him in confusion, not expecting him to give such a warning.
"As if you don't know me. I have never liked office romances and no offense, but I don't think I will like your assistant." He responded with a middle-aged woman in his mind. Older women have never been his taste.
"Evie is not only smart, but she's good at her work, and she's still young and beautiful," his father told him in detail while Benjamin was walking back and forth in front of the window.
The sun was bright outside, and it was a beautiful day.
"I never pegged you--" Benjamin started, but his father stopped him.
"I have never been unfaithful to your mother," Max angrily interrupted his son. "And Evie could be my daughter; such a thing would never cross my mind," he added with a hint of hurt at his son's accusation in his voice.
"I'm telling you this because you are different in many ways, and she has an incredible performance within this company; I would hate it if she had to resign because of you," Max continued with the scenario playing in his mind.
"Like I said, you don't have to be worried," Ben said with confidence in his voice, but he couldn't help but be curious to meet the amazing woman his father was so fond of.
"I really hope so," Max said, and Benjamin went to his desk.
His attention was focused on the documents there, while Max called his assistant to meet Ben. He wondered for a second if Evie's real name could be Evangeline.
'At least I will never see her again.' Benjamin thought, and he was slapped by reality a few minutes later when he finally met his father's infamous assistant.
It was none other than Evie, the woman he met in Las Vegas, and he now knew her real name. After two months, the woman who kissed him without hesitation and left him without a word of goodbye after a night of amazing s*x is now standing before him again, and she's now his assistant.
Benjamin stared at the woman who was showing his father the documents. She was wearing a tight white dress that went past her knees, and she paired it with a pair of red heels. She is oblivious to his presence as she does her job.
"There was an error in the design department, and the red marks are the errors while the corrections are on the back. They need to be sent back right away," Evie explained to her boss, but Max explained that he had summoned her to meet his son, and Evie turned to him with a smile.
Benjamin stood up from his seat and fixed his suit before walking up to her.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Miss Anderson; I've heard a lot about you." He greeted her and offered his hand for a handshake.
He couldn't believe his eyes. Just when he's convinced he'll never see her again, she's now standing before her.
"The pleasure is mine, Mr. Harris," Evie replied after some time, accepting his hand.
"Well, I'll leave you two to be acquainted with each other; when you're done, find me in the shopping area," Max told them and left the office.
The two stared at each other for a moment before they let go of each other's hand, and silence filled the room. Evie was uncertain what to say because she didn't expect this to happen.
"I want to see the documents you brought," Ben said with his eyes on the documents.
Evie felt disappointed and upset. She didn't expect anything, but to see him pretend like what happened in Las Vegas was nothing was upsetting.
"Of course, sir," she answered while hiding her annoyance.
"You will see the original and the corrections. If you have any questions, you will find Elvira's contact number on the computer that I noted; she can tell you more details about it." She informed him as she handed him the documents.
"So it really is your thing to leave notes," Ben said with a raised brow.
"Sorry?" Evie asked in confusion.
"You left a note in my apartment in Las Vegas instead of saying goodbye, so I take it you like leaving notes." He answered and took the note she posted on the computer.
Evie was left stunned, not knowing what to say. She was mad and upset because she thought he'd pretend to not know her, but now she's left embarrassed.
"Tell me, Miss Evangeline, what did you mean by your words?" Ben asked with just a few steps between them, hoping she would clear his doubts.
