THE TRAFFIC WAS SURPRISINGLY light for just past lunchtime, and they made good time. Soon they were on the A14 past Stowmarket, with Bury St Edmunds off to the left, and on to the A134, past Thetford and Downham Market. They switched to the A10 just before King’s Lynn. The countryside looked peaceful in the October sunshine. They were having an Indian Summer, and the weather was remarkably pleasant, instead of the usual three days sunny, followed by muggy and uncomfortable that had everyone praying for a thunderstorm.
