Chapter 1
PRESCOTT ACADEMY. JASMINE’S POV 'Is that what I think it is?' I pondered, my eyes widening as I dashed over to the corner, where a body lay in the darkness. I took slow steps, towards it, my legs trembling. Then I stopped and peered over only to let out a gasp, my hands moving to cover my wide agape mouth. This was bad. I was looking at the body of a middle-aged man who was probably dead, for he was not moving at all. "Jasmine, get out of there now!" My subconscious mind screamed at me, but my legs remained stuck, unable to move. Something was telling me to move closer to confirm he was truly dead so I moved, taking little steps till I came face to face with him. I froze, my breath getting caught in my throat as my mind tried to process the horrible sight in front of me. He was bleeding from both his nostrils and stomach, where a knife was shoved in. I bent down to his level, then reared backward in shock, my butt hitting the ground. 'Wasn't that a silver blade?' I asked myself. I recognized the knife used to kill the strongest werewolf, meaning I was right. This man was probably dead. I was about to get up and leave hurriedly when his closed eyes flipped open suddenly and I shrieked, my heart racing in fear as my soul almost sprinted out of my body. My mind was swirling with countless thoughts. 'Shouldn't he be dead?' " P-p-please h-help me," He stuttered, his face drained of colors and squeezing in pain as he struggled to say those words. I felt a pang of pity run through me at seeing him wince in agony. " P-please, t-t-they are after me," He struggled to say, and I arched my eyebrows at him. "After you?" I repeated and he nodded, closing his eyes, making my heart skip a beat. "Who?" I questioned, my voice coming out as a whisper. "N-no time to explain," He told me, and I nodded, glancing around quickly for anyone I could call to help when he spoke again. "My phone is on the left side of my suit, pick it up and dial my driver's number," He ordered, and I immediately got to work, fumbling with his suit till I found his phone and dialed the numbers, while he called with shaking fingers. A few minutes later, which felt like an eternity for I had to constantly check and make sure this man didn't die on me, the driver arrived and took him to the car. But before he got in, the man struggled to turn and let out a whisper. " I will surely repay you." Then he fainted, making me let out a yelp, my breaths coming out in short gasps as my lungs burned. I thought he was dead, but the driver assured me otherwise before zooming off and leaving me all alone in the middle of the road. This was so not how I expected my night to go. It was like it was just getting from bad to worse. First, I was made to work an extra shift, then got to leave the cafe I was working in really late, making me bump into the injured man I had just saved. ****** "So, you're telling me that those things happened to you, last night?" Erica inquired, her mouth hanging open and I held back the urge to laugh. I nodded, walking over to her, holding two cups of hot chocolate in mugs. "Here," I said, handing one over to her, which she collected but not before flashing me a smile. "You seriously have a lot to gist on, so spill," She squeaked before taking a sip of her hot chocolate and setting it aside, so she could pay attention to me as I let her in on all the details like I always do. This was Erica Woods. My best friend and one and only friend who has always been there. "Jasmine, enough talking, and go carry your books so you won't fail the next test." My mum yelled out from her room, letting out a snort in disgust. My heart ached and I let out a sigh, but then felt a warm hand on my shoulder, patting me gently. I smiled knowing it was Erica. "Don't worry, everything will be alright." She reassured me, moving closer enough to hug me. I felt my heart swirling, and closed my eyes, glad to have her. Things haven't exactly been good since Dad got into an accident that left him disabled, without the use of his legs. I became the family's breadwinner and did every odd job I could think of, just to help the family, but it was never enough. I was constantly yelled at and reminded how useless I was just because I refused to take the scholarship exams to go to Prescott Academy at first. It was the best in the city and for rich kids which I was not. After much bugging, I took the exams continuously but always failed, and Mum, disappointed, seized my art materials, forbidding me from painting till I got into the damn school. She took away my only joy and means of escaping. The art. I sniffled, feeling tears rushing to the brim of my eyes but blinked them back. It wasn't the end of the world. Just then, the doorbell rang, and I froze, as I wasn't expecting anyone, nor was Mum or Dad. Erica released me and threw me a confused look, to which I shrugged before getting up. I went to open the door only to see... "You" I called out in disbelief, almost raising my finger to point at him, before remembering it was rude to do that to an elderly person. He flashed me a happy smile, his hands tucked behind his back, as I recognized the man standing behind him to be no one other than his driver, holding a briefcase. 'What were they doing here?' I pondered, not knowing exactly how to feel. "I was never able to fully thank you two weeks ago for saving my life. If not for you, I would have been dead." The man, whom I still had no idea what his name was, appreciated, the smile still stuck on his face. "Oh! It's nothing. Anyone would have done the same" I told him, feeling there was no need for him to come all the way down here to thank me for saving his life. Come to think of it, I thought he had forgotten me. "They wouldn't have dear. May I come in?" He asked, and my face turned bright red from embarrassment. How could I have been so thoughtless? Just then, my mum appeared by my side, her face scrunched up into a frown. "Who is this, Jasmine?" She inquired, her tone not friendly and I squeezed my face, praying and hoping she wouldn't embarrass me. "I am Mr. Johnson, ma, and your daughter here saved my life. May I come in?". My mother ignored him and turned to look at me, her mouth dropping open in disbelief. "Why didn't you tell me you saved someone?" She probed and I faked a smile, straining my face. "I didn't feel it was necessary". I replied through gritted teeth. Afterward, we allowed Mr. Johnson in, and as he settled himself on the couch, I offered him a cup of coffee, which his driver refused. Erica was surprised to see him as well, but threw me a wink. "I will get straight to the point," He began, and I felt my tummy swirling from nervousness. "For saving me, I am here to grant a wish of yours no matter how outrageous it is, just name it." At first, I was stunned, my jaw dropping. "What?" I whispered, and he nodded, smiling at me. "Perfect. We need her to get into Prescott Academy." Mum told him before I could say anything else. My heart stilled, the words hung in the air, their weight pressing down on my chest as I tried to register them in my head. 'Why would she say such?' "Consider it done." Mr. Johnson told her and I felt my hands shaking. This could not be possible. No, this was not happening. 'I did not want to go to that college, why must I? Why were my parents so obsessed with me going?' I wondered, having no answers to my questions. .......................... A Week Later Today was my first day at Prescott College, and I couldn't say I was excited. Rather, I stared out the car's window, with a blank expression, already feeling bored. Mr. Johnson was personally driving me in his limo. We drove into the school, and my breath hitched as I stared at the gigantic buildings in awe. "f**k!" I cursed. As the driver packed, I opened the door almost immediately and got out, not knowing how to process my emotions. The best, Elite academy in the whole of this city. It was just like I just stepped foot in paradise. Students can be seen here and there, walking around or chattering with their friends, dressed in the same school uniform I was wearing. White shirt, a short red skirt that stopped below our knees, white socks, and black boots, some wore heels and had berets attached to their heads while I just had a bow on. Mr. Johnson and I walked into the school secretary's office, where I was cleared and given every material I needed. "I believe you can go on your own from here?" Mr. Johnson asked as I escorted him to his Vehicle and I nodded. "Thank you so much for this opportunity." I appreciated it and was surprised to see I meant it, beaming at him, which he returned. "I owe you more". He promised before getting his limo and his driver zoomed off, leaving me all alone to myself. I decided to tour the school and was in the garden, admiring the beautiful flowers, and was about to move towards the library when someone bumped into me. It was with a hard force, so I stumbled backward, my books dropping from my hands from shock. I expected the person to apologize but instead did the opposite. "Are you blind, can't you freaking watch where you are going, you dumbass?" I heard a girl yell, insulting me. Anger ran through my veins as I raised my head to see a beautiful girl with long, wavy, grey hair and orbs glaring at me with fierce intensity, but I didn't give a damn. "I should be asking you that miss. You bumped into me here," I reminded her, just In case she had forgotten, only to hear a loud gasp erupting from everyone as they all gathered around us, bringing out their phones to record like we were having some sort of freak show. "Who is she?". "I can't believe she just talked back to Queen Amara". "She is in so much trouble." Whispers flowed around, and I pondered why. Who was Queen Amara, Was it her? I looked at the grey-haired girl to see her rearing backward in shock, a stunned expression on her face before curling her lips at me, her teeth clenching against one another. "You unfortunate b***h! How dare you?" She growled and raised her hand, wanting to slap me but I hurriedly caught it, scowling at her foul words. "I can take anything except you raising your hands at me or insulting me. You are obviously at fault, so cut it out," I told her, with a tight-lipped smile before flinging her hand away, earning another gasp, but this time from her. I didn't even bother looking at her expression and made to walk past her when she reached out and grabbed me by my hair, gripping it tightly, before shoving me backward, into falling and reeling on the floor. Everyone bursted into laughter while I groaned feeling my body ache from the bruises I might have sustained from the fall. I turned to glare at her, only to see her shooting daggers at me. "Who do you lowly b***h, think you are?" She yelled furiously, clenching her fists together and looking like she wanted to punch me, but instead, she sent me a kick to my ribs, making me cough out from pain, tears gathering at my eyelids. 'It hurts' I thought, knowing she must be some sort of high rank wolf. She was about to hit me again when someone called her. "Amara." She froze, and we all turned to see no one other than a very handsome and charming guy. "Oh my goodness!" I mumbled under my breath, my eyeballs widened and my heart skipping a beat at whom I was seeing.
