“Aria, he’s dead.” Malika, my sister, muttered from behind my room door.
“Who’s dead?” I asked curiously, grabbing a candle and opening the door for her.
“The Duke Marcus. He was mauled by a wolf.” She muttered.
“The man that proposed this morning?” I asked. Malika nodded her head.
“They say he was devastated by your rejection, so he went for a walk out in the woods. And he never came back.” Malika whispered. “Knights found him ripped to shreds, near the lake.”
“I need to go somewhere. Can you please not the mother and father that I’m going out this late?” I begged her. Malika nodded her head and moved aside. Lifting up the candle stick, I walked down the tunnel.
You’re going to see Klaus, aren’t you? Malika asked telepathically. I didn’t reply, just kept on walking. When I reached the middle of the hill, I caught a glimpse of Klaus’s castle. But he wasn’t in the castle. He was propped up against a tree, blood dripping down his shirt.
“What did you do?” I snapped, running over to him.
“He was going to take you away from me. I couldn’t let that happen.” Klaus hissed. I had found out, just last week that the man I was in love with was a hybrid. A vampire and a werewolf. Being a guardian of nature, I didn’t know what I was supposed to do. I couldn’t kill him.
“So you attack him I the middle of the night as a wolf?” I yelled.
“Not so loud.” Klaus said, shushing me. I glared at him, hoping he would explain further.
“When I saw you hesitate to say no, well, I snapped. You’re the only good thing in my life, Aria. I won’t let them take you away from me.” Klaus whispered, cupping my face in his hands.
“I hesitated because my mother was watching me. You know how she feels about us. I had to appease her.” I muttered.
“I can’t bear the thought of you belonging to someone else.” He whispered, leaning closer.
“I don’t belong to anyone else.” I muttered.
“Marry me?” Klaus asked.
“What?”
“I want to claim you before anyone else does. I love you, Aria. Will you marry me?” He asked again.
“Yes,” I muttered, kissing him softly. Without any thought to what my mother would say, or what the kingdom would think, I gave my life to the man I loved.
“I love you.” He whispered into my ear.
“I love you too,” I muttered. My eyes blinked open, and I was being carried into the apartment.
“I knew you would come around some time.” Klaus grinned. I looked up at him with dazed eyes.
“Where are we?” I asked.
“We’re back at the apartment. Greta is bringing up all your things. You were dreaming about the night I proposed, weren’t you?” He asked with a knowing look.
“You read my mind?” I asked, outraged.
“It was very…entertaining. The way you see me.” Klaus smirked.
“That was over a thousand years ago. I’ve learned from my past mistakes.” I snapped.
“Oh really? What mistakes would that be?” He asked.
“The mistake of ever trusting you.” I snapped. Instantly, I regretted it. His face fell and his eyes became darker.
“Fine then. But you’re still holding onto your promise. I haven’t killed anyone and you have to spend the weekend with me.” He snapped. I blinked in surprise. He was still hell bent on that whole weekend thing. We entered the apartment, and Katherine was lounging on the couch.
“Aw, such a sweet sight.” She mocked.
“Go to hell Katherine.” Klaus muttered.
“Someone’s in a mood,” Katherine muttered. Klaus took me to the room, but before he closed the door I shot a glance at Katherine and she gave me a warning glare. Wonder what that’s about?
“Here, you need your rest.” Klaus said pulling away the covers of the bed. He set me inside the blanket and walked towards the door.
“Where are you going?” I asked from under the blanket. I sat up to stare at him.
“I’m going to speak with Elijah.” Klaus muttered.
“I wanna come to.” I said jumping of the bed and striding over to him.
“You need rest.” Klaus said calmly, like a parent cautioning an over excited child.
“I am and Original. I don’t need rest.” I said stubbornly lifting up my chin.
“Always so stubborn.” Klaus sighed, but he smiled at me and I smiled back.
“Let’s go then.” Klaus muttered, grabbing my waist. In an instant we were standing outside the Salvatore mansion.
“You basturd!” I heard Damon yell. The next second there was a wooden stake piercing the skin above Klaus’s heart.
“When will they learn. You can’t kill me that easily.” Klaus sighed. He pulled out the stake and tossed it to the side.
“Damon,” I sighed, running a hand through my hair.
“Why are you still standing there. Get inside the house!” Damon yelled, yanking me into the doorway. I passed through with ease and watched as Klaus shot Damon an amused look.
“You don’t know much about me do you?” Klaus asked, stepping through he threshold and striding over to us.
“What the…” Damon trailed off with a look of confusion across his face.
“Since Klaus is the First, he doesn’t need to be invited inside.” I explained.
“Ah crap.” Damon sighed.
“Why exactly are you here?” Damon asked in an irritated tone.
“I came here to speak with my brother.” Klaus said.
“I don’t want to speak with you,” I heard Elijah say. He stood at the top of the staircase, glaring down at Klaus.
“I know we’ve had our differences, brother, but I have come to make amends.” Klaus said.
“What the hell is he doing here?” I heard Alaric shout. He pulled out a crossbow and shot Klaus in the back. By now his shirt was stained with blood.
“Would you people please stop trying to kill me?” Klaus sighed, irritated now.
“Guys you should listen to him. He’s not going through with the ritual.” I said.
“Why?” Stefan asked. He walked over to our little gathering, while Elena clutched at his shirt following closely behind.
“Because I asked him not to.” I said simply.
“You asked him to? And he’s listening to you?” Damon asked in disbelief.
“I can be very persuasive.” I grinned.
“So I’m not dying?” Elena asked.
“No,” I smiled.
“Well that’s a relief. Now get outta my house.” Damon snapped at Klaus.
“Wait Damon. He must have a reason for coming here.” Elena said. I could tell that she wanted to trust my word, but she kept shooting weary glances at Klaus. As if he’d snap any moment now. Which he probably would.
“I need to speak with Elijah. Alone.” Klaus said.
“Alright.” Elijah sighed. He was beside me, and as Klaus walked out the door, I pulled Elijah back.
“Be careful.” I muttered.
“Of course.” He said, shooting me a warm smile. As I watched them walk out the door, I got a very uneasy feeling.
“What’s that on your neck?” Elena asked, pulling me from my thoughts.
“Huh?” I asked.
“That purple thing on your neck. Is that a love bite?” She gasped. I blushed sheepishly, looking at my feet.
“I didn’t know vampires could get love bites.” Jeremy chuckled, walking into the room.
“Shut up,” I muttered.
“Aw, the little girl is blushing,” Damon cooed, ruffling my hair.
“The little girl will bite your hand off if you don’t stop touching my hair.” I snapped. He chuckled, but removed his hands.
“So how does it feel to receive a love bite from the scariest vampire of all time?” Bonnie asked, walking into the room and wrapping a hand around Jeremy.
“He’s not so bad.” I said defending him, although Lord knows why I did it.
“I have to admit, your little love triangle with Klaus is a real turn on. That whole hate-love connection flowing between you two makes me wish I had a deranged vampire love me,” Caroline said walking into the room with a cup of hot chocolate. We all looked at her with raised eyebrows.
“I’m just saying, it’s a really intense love story.” She defended herself. I sighed, shaking my head at her. She was so young and naïve.
“Same old Caroline,” Elena muttered with a smile.
“You know you love me,” Caroline smiled innocently.
“Alright then. Let’s go Aria.” Klaus said walking into the house again.
“You done?” I asked.
“Yes. I’ll meet you at the airport tomorrow.” Klaus told Elijah. I shot him a confused expression.
“Elijah’s coming with us on our trip.” Klaus explained.
“Ooh, where are you going?” Caroline asked, an adventurous glint in her eyes.
“That’s confidential. Don’t want to ruin the surprise.” Klaus grinned, staring at me.
“Ooh, Aria, looks like you’re in for a treat.” Bonnie mocked.
“Carry on mocking an I just might rip your throat out.” I snapped. They all chuckled at my red face.
“Can we go now?” I asked Klaus. He laughed and wrapped his hands around my waist.
“Have fun Aria.” Caroline called. I shot her a death glare just before we left.
The next day I got ready, changing into a black top and jeans. I had on my black heeled ankle boots and leather jacket.
“Nice,” Klaus commented as I walked out the bathroom.
“Shut up,” I muttered walking passed him. I went to the fridge to pour out a glass of blood. I downed the sweet liquid slowly, waiting for Klaus to come out. He soon stepped out of the room in an unbuttoned white shirt, with dark jeans. His hair was wet.
“Morning Klaus,” Greta called out. He ignored her, walking over to me.
“You like?” He asked, pushing me against the fridge.
“Your witch is going to get jealous.” I muttered.
“Let her get jealous.” Klaus smirked. I rolled my eyes at him, still sipping my cup of blood.
“Can you please just get ready so we can go already?” I snapped.
“I’m ready. I just need to button up my shirt.” Klaus grinned, staring at me.
“You’re not going to button up your shirt, are you?” I asked blankly, after a moment. He shook his head, and I sighed. I set the glass down, and started buttoning up his shirt. All the while his eyes never left mine.
“Looks like the happy couple kissed and made up. How cute,” Katherine smirked.
“What is up with everyone and teasing me?” I muttered.
“They’re jealous.” Klaus whispered, lifting up my chin and pecking my lips. I rolled my eyes at him. When he pulled away I could sense the death glares Greta shot towards us. I wanted to laugh out loud, but my self control got the better of me.
When we arrived at the airport, we met Elijah and Caroline.
“What are you doing here?” I asked her.
“Klaus called last night, saying I could come along.” Caroline beamed.
“He did?” I asked, glancing at him Caroline nodded, and I chuckled at her excited expression.
“I don’t know what you did, but I like this Klaus so much better than the old one.” Caroline muttered to me. I giggled, knowing she wasn’t going to stop talking.
“Elena and everyone else is fine with you being here?” I asked her.
“As long as I’m with you they figure I’ll be fine. And it’s just one weekend right?” Caroline smiled. I smile back warmly, touched at how much they trusted me even though they barely knew me. As we got to the plane, Klaus pulled me behind as Caroline and Elijah got onto the plane.
“So did I finally do something right?” Klaus asked hopefully. I stared at him, wondering how this could have all happened over the course of twelve hours. It was like he was a completely different person.
“Yeah,” I muttered. He smiled and I pecked his cheek. I don’t know what made me do it, but I was glad I did. He beamed at me, grasping my hand and pulling me to our seats.
After a couple of hours on the plane, and then another hour on his private jet we arrived at our final destination.
“It looks the same,” I muttered, glancing down at the valley. We were currently standing on my home grounds.
“Except for the mansion in the middle,” Elijah smiled. Back when I was human, this used to be my home. My castle used to sit on that mountain, overlooking the valley below it. We were currently standing on Klaus front porch steps, where his castle used to lie.
“This mansion was built fifty years ago.” Klaus muttered looking at it.
“It’s beautiful.” Caroline muttered.
“Klaus!” I heard a familiar bell voice call out. I sighed, shooting Elijah a glance. I turned around to find Sophie Donovan standing before us, hugging Klaus as tightly as she possibly could. I rolled my eyes, knowing this weekend was over.
