Chris: Wake up, Tina. Quickly open your eyes.
A voice within her head called out to her.
It took a long time for Tina to come to her senses and open her eyes only to find herself lying on a soft bed. “That voice...”
Chris: Tina, you’re finally awake. My name is Chris, I’m your wolf.
She was stunned but then vaguely felt the wolf within her.
“What... what’s wrong with me?”
Chris: Tina, you were engulfed in the fire and I saved you. I’m sorry for your suffering. I should have come sooner. Unfortunately, I couldn’t save that baby in your womb.
Tina broke down emotionally.
Thereafter, Chris revealed a lot to her. It turned out that she was not an incompetent omega but was an alpha offspring of the Tarots. The Tarots were an ancient and powerful family. Their wealth, authority, and influence inevitably attracted animosity from rivals over generations. The family suffered heavy casualties during a fierce battle. To save her life, her parents sealed her full abilities and left a mark on her face.
She once had a warm family with her mother and father, and her wolf.
“Looks like you’ve gotten better,” someone said. Tina looked around the room and saw two young men sitting on a sofa on one side of the room. They were twins and looked identical.
“Hi, I’m Kevin.”
“I’m Jack.”
She sat up on the bed, nodded to the two men, and said, “My name is Tina...”
“What happened to you?” Jack asked. “We found you huddled by the creek with burns all over your body. Amazingly, you have a great ability to heal, and you’re out of danger now.”
Tina told them what had happened to her and when the Campbell family was mentioned, both of them appeared disgusted at the same time. She realized that they hated Mason and the Campbells as much as she did. For generations they had been oppressed by that family in all ways possible, resulting in the deaths of countless brothers and sisters. They were determined to avenge their lives even if it meant dying.
Likewise, she would avenge the death of her unborn child!
Five years later.
At the arrival hall of the New York Airport, a reporter from a legal journal waited impatiently and finally saw the slender and delicate figure he had been waiting for all day.
“Ms. Miller!” The journalist rushed up, pointed a microphone at her, and seized the opportunity to ask, “Is Ms. Miller planning to settle down in New York after returning from Washington DC? What are your subsequent plans for your career? What are your thoughts about the New York legal and political scene?”
Talia slowed down, pondered for a moment, and replied with a smile, “Thanks for your concern. I’m sorry, but this is my private matter, and you have no right to intrude on my privacy. If you need any legal representation, you are free to contact me, and I will give you a discount.”
Talia handed the journalist her business card, and the reporter hesitated for a moment before stopping.
New York, was a place that reminded her of the highs and lows of her life.
Talia looked around at the familiar scenery, which was just as she had remembered. She was finally back with a vengeance.
Five years ago, she lost her unborn son and almost died in a fire that had disfigured her. Now she was back in this place that was full of nasty people toward her. The cowardly and incompetent Tina Collins was dead. Now, she was Talia Miller a healthy and strong alpha after 5 years of intense training. She was also a prominent lawyer in the legal world. Her revenge had only just begun.
“Mason...Grace... None of you can escape.”
While Talia focused on the thoughts of revenge, she did not notice the probing gaze that had been following her since she disembarked from the airplane.
Mason handed his luggage to his assistant and looked again at the elegant and beautiful lady just next to him. He had vaguely heard the journalist’s questions earlier that suggested that this woman was a lawyer. Judging by her figure and appearance, he expected that she must be a lawyer who just relied on her beauty to get ahead.
“Mr. Campbell, the car is here. The company has also prepared for the meeting according to your instructions. We can start as soon as you arrive.”
Mason nodded slightly and asked, “Who is that woman? A journalist even waited for her when she arrived. What’s her story?”
The assistant looked over and said, “Mr. Campbell, she seems to be a well-known lawyer from Washington DC... Oh, I remember now. The head of the law firm told me yesterday that a new female lawyer with strong professional skills would be joining us today. That should be her.”
“Oh? Joining our DK company?” Mason raised his eyebrows.
Interesting...
After completing the onboarding procedures, an assistant brought Talia on a tour of the company.
“Ms. Miller, this is the pantry. You can have some coffee to perk you up when you’re tired. This is the gym. You have such a great figure. I’m sure you like to work out. You can come here as often as you wish. This is the hallway that leads to the CEO’s office.”
Talia looked in the direction the assistant indicated.
The CEO’s room. That meant that it was Mason’s office, but only temporarily. She was determined to make him lose both fame and fortune in time.
Just as she was pondering about this, a mesmerizing male voice said from behind her, “And who’s this?”
The assistant quickly turned around and exclaimed, “Mr. Campbell! This is our new lawyer, Talia Miller. Ms. Miller, this is the CEO of DK, Mr. Campbell.”
Mason smiled and extended his hand. “Ms. Miller, I’ve heard a lot about you.”
Talia gazed at his hand and grinned alluringly without a hint of her deeper intentions.
“Mr. Campbell, you are truly a talented man.” Talia took a deep breath, composed herself, and smiled radiantly. “I have heard that Mr. Campbell is an extraordinary businessman and CEO of DK, and now that I have met you in person, it is truly an honor. Mr. Campbell, do you have time? I heard that the company has recently been sued by some parties, would you like to hear my opinions on this matter?”
Mason’s heart stirred. He did not expect that she was so well informed in DK’s legal matters. It looked like his initial assessment of her being an empty vessel was incorrect. She looked like an impressive lawyer.
“I’d love to hear from my newest lawyer. This way please, Ms. Miller.” Mason smiled and led her into his office.
Talia sashayed and clattered toward his office in her high heels.
However, as the door was closing, they heard a woman shrieking from outside, “Mason! Who is she?!”
Grace stormed in like an insane hyena and yelled at Mason’s assistant. “How many times must I tell you that no other women are allowed in the CEO’s office? Don’t you want your job?”
The assistant lowered her head in fear and dared not make a sound.
Mason frowned and said with annoyance, “Honey, behave yourself. This is the company’s new lawyer, we have to discuss some business matters.”
“Business, business, business, it’s such a great excuse. You’re coming up with excuses every other day to meet beautiful women. I think you don’t love me anymore!” Grace stomped her foot and continued, “I’m also the company’s lawyer, what business can’t you talk to me about? In this world, I am the only one who understands you the most. Don’t forget that we are each other’s mates!”
The scene was awkward and embarrassing.
Talia was unaffected and smiled decently, “Mr. Campbell, it seems like you have to deal with some personal matters first, I will come back later.” She got up, faced Grace, and said politely, “Please excuse me, Miss.”
Grace did not give a damn about who she was and only knew that she had to repel every woman who tried to get too close to Mason.
“Miss Miller, take heed of what I’m about to say. I am Mason’s wife, don’t think that you can replace me just because you are beautiful and sexy. Mason belongs to me and me only. Do you understand?”
Talia smiled and replied elegantly, “Ma’am, you must be mistaken. I’m here to work and not to seduce my boss. Besides, I have many suitors and there is no need for me to compete with you.”
Grace was stunned by her reply and fumed. “You...”
Grace was about to retort but saw that Mason was already very upset. Her outburst had utterly embarrassed him. She was totally unlike Talia, who was eloquent, dignified, and gracious. In that encounter, Mason could see how different Talia was compared to Grace.
“Grace, leave us. This is not the place for you to throw your tantrums,” Mason said frostily.
Grace was intimidated by his stern tone and stomped away like a spoiled child.
Mason smiled awkwardly and said, “Ms. Miller, I’m sorry you had to witness that. That woman is my wife and also a lawyer in the company... If you don’t mind, I’d like to invite you to dinner tonight as an apology for my wife’s behavior.”
“That would be very kind of you, Mr. Campbell.”
The candlelights were dancing in the romantic Michelin-star French restaurant.
Upon Mason’s urging, Talia already had several glasses of red wine. Her skin glowed a pinkish hue, and she looked even more beautiful under the warm candle lights. Mason could not keep his eyes off her and forced himself to look away periodically.
Talia made an effort to dress up that night. She wore a red velvet gown with a plunging neckline that revealed her alluring cleavage. Her beautiful golden blond hair cascaded down her sexy bare shoulders. Passersby looked at her and thought that she was an A-list celebrity. However, only Talia knew about the long and difficult recovery journey that she endured after being disfigured by the fire. She was now trying to get back what she had lost.
“Ms. Miller, is there anything else you like? This is the best French restaurant in New York City, I’m sure it’ll suit your palate,” said Mason.
“Of course! Thank you for your hospitality, Mr. Campbell.” Talia then signaled the waiter and spoke fluently in French, “Hi, can you add an order of Saint Jacques scallops, please? Thank you very much.”
Mason remarked in surprise, “You speak French?”
Talia held the wine glass and flirtatiously twirled the wine as she said with a grin, “Everyone needs an edge. Learning another language as a lawyer allows me to represent more clients.” Talia smiled and leaned closer to Mason. “Mr. Campbell, I’m as ambitious as you are, if not more.”
Mason was captivated by her enchanting eyes.
Being so close to each other, he smelled her distinctive scent which assaulted his senses and made his heart flutter.
“Ms. Miller, feel free to perform in this law firm. DK is big enough for you to excel to the best of your abilities.”
“Really? Then I’ll take your word for it and take on more cases.” Talia smiled confidently. “I’m curious, Mr. Campbell, a man like you must have broken many women’s hearts. Do you have a woman that lingers in your heart who you are fond of?”
“No,” Mason replied coldly.
Mason’s answer was decisive and firm.
He had completely forgotten about Talia’s death in the fire. He was disgusted by her, so how could he even remember her?
Talia felt like a fool.
“It seems that Mr. Campbell is laser-focused in your work.”
“That’s not exactly true.” Mason pulled out his phone and found a family photo, “I have a very cute daughter. There is nothing more important than her.”
Talia looked at the photo.
It was a family photo of three smiling happily. Mason had his arm around Grace, who was carrying a beautiful little girl.
Talia suddenly remembered the child who died in the fire. It was her child, their child! The part of her body that was burned began to ache, and her heart felt like it was being crushed by a vice. She struggled to breathe and felt dizzy.
Suddenly, she casually raised her hand, knocked over the wine glass, and spilled the red wine onto his phone. The screen instantly went blank, and the picture disappeared before her eyes.
“Oh, I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to!” She hurriedly got up and called the waiter to clean up the mess.
Mason did not notice that she did it intentionally and just waved his hand. “No worries, it’s time for me to change a phone anyway.”
Talia smiled and grinned, “Mr. Campbell’s daughter is so cute. I would like to meet her too if I get the chance.”
“Not a problem at all.”
