Brandon!" Lyla snapped and he turned.
"What? You heard her. She's leaving the pack." He shrugged and walked away, leaving Lyla surprised.
"Is that wolfless b*tch trying to steal my man?" She squinted her brows as she stared at Jasmine and Butter.
"She wouldn't dare. Afterall, you heard him, she's leaving the pack. She even said it herself. If she has any pride, she wouldn't stay here after being rejected." Jasmine said.
"Or even if she wanted, we would make her leave of her own accord." Butter added and they both looked at her.
"What do you mean?" Lyla asked.
"Spread the news. Brandon rejected Anya." She smirked.
-----
Anya shivered multiple times, even after Rowan had covered her with his coat. Night was getting closer and the cold air came quickly. She felt sick. She shouldn't have gone, she shouldn't have gone to the waters.
"Are you okay?" Rowan asked, staring at her with concern.
"I should be asking you. You are putting on a thin clothing." She whispered.
"You are hot." He ignored her words as he touched her body.
"But I feel cold." She muttered.
"I think you caught a cold. You have to rest. I'll get you medications. Don't.. leave this room." He said, looking at her intensely.
Anya nodded.
"Promise me. I have to know when you leave." He said.
"I won't leave. I promise. How can I leave the pack in this state? I feel so weak..." She muttered. Rowan still stared at her , feeling unconvinced. He knew Anya. She was resilient and would do anything if she put her mind to it.
"I need you to carry my bag too. It's so heavy." She muttered and he smiled a little, covering her properly with the duvet, before leaving the room.
She smiled slowly, snuggling more into the duvet as she took a deep but unsteady breath. Rowan was the best friend to ask for, she had never had anything to offer him but yet, he was always by her side, every single time. Whether she needed him or not, he was there.
He never made her feel alone and that was the main reason she was able to thrive till the moment. But this rejection, it was more painful than she thought. She had no wolf but yet she felt it. At the same time, mockery wasn't something to be happy about.
It was as if a knife had just been pierced into her heart, multiple times and she couldn't even make a sound to show how hurt she was. Pain is more hurtful when it is bottled up, but she didn't know what to do. What could she say if she was rejected by her mate? It would have been better if he was a normal person but he wasn't, he was the Alpha heir of the pack.
Even the royal family would never accept a wolfless person as their son's mate and the pack's Luna. It was like handing over the pack when you clearly knew she was the wrong person to give.
She had nothing to offer and maybe this was the best decision, she had better get over it and move on as fast as possible. She suddenly coughed as cold sweats ran down her face.
The door opened almost at the same time.
"Rowan?" She muttered weakly. Her body was so weak and her eyes were giving up to unconsciousness. But she still tried to get up and force them open.
Brandon scoffed as he closed the door he had just opened and stepped into the room fully, his hands behind his back. He scoffed as he looked around.
"What a dumb room" He muttered and slowly turned to look at her.
"What are you doing here?" She whispered weakly, her legs shaking but she covered her body fully with the duvet, so it wasn't visible to Brandon that she was weak. However, her eyes gave it away. They were so red and she blinked multiple times to feel steady. Cold sweats broke out from her face.
Brandon's eyes ran over her for a few seconds and he noticed something was wrong. He cleared his throat and didn't say anything for a moment.
"If you have nothing to say, can you leave?" She muttered shakily and he nodded, turning to go when she suddenly staggered. With a gasp, Brandon quickly rushed to her and caught her before she could fall to the ground.
"Anya." He called, shaking her when he saw her eyes were closed and not moving.
He placed a hand on her forehead and felt her temperature was high. 'Is this because I pushed her into the water?' He thought slowly and carried her carefully, dropping her on the bed. She was as light as a feather so he had no difficulty carrying her. He just placed her on the bed and went into the toilet, dipping a wet napkin into cold water and placing it on her head. He covered her with the duvet and walked away, he turned to look at her one last time, his eyes lingering on her for a moment before he finally left.
Rowan came in about five minutes later with the drugs and he was glad to see Anya was still there. He had actually thought she would have left without informing him so he ran to and fro.
He made something easy for her to eat, adding a lot of meat as that was the most important food for wolves to feed on. It would be easier to get her strength with that. He also added vegetables since he knew Anya loved eating vegetables a lot. She might have been a vegetarian if not for her wolf status.
"Anya. " He tapped her slowly and she stirred, turning while groaning on the bed.
"Anya, wake up and eat something. I brought some drugs." He muttered as she opened her eyes. He placed the tray of food on the bed, beside her and handed her the drugs.
"Can you eat? Do you want me to feed you?" He asked slowly, seeing how tired she looked and she smiled slowly.
"No, I'll be fine. You can go home now. It's very late. I wouldn't want your family to be worried." She said instead.
"Ella won't even care and if she doesn't, no one does." Rowan argued. Ella was his little sister and only sibling. And she was so troublesome but she usually slept early after watching some movies. This was about nine pm, so she should be in bed about this time. But Anya insisted for him to go and he did, after watching her eat and lay down.
Anya bit her lips slowly, her mind hovering around the fact that Brandon had been here before she fainted. What for? And what happened when she fainted? Gosh, she couldn't take this any longer, Brandon was a thorn in her skin!
Rowan sighed outside at the door tiredly as he left. Anya had planned to leave tonight but she had fallen sick, so if she got a lot better by tomorrow, she would want to leave. It was a lot to take in.
"I wish you would just stay." He muttered.
