Chapter 4

"Yaaah!" Another of Quintin's sidekicks was about to attack me when he was stopped by a sharp, flaming sword slashing his back. "K-Kristoff!" Quintin's sister immediately screamed when the burning body of their companion was lying on the ground. "Sheesh! Do you think you can hide from me forever?" A man appeared in front of us holding a long and flaming sword. "G-get off me!" I scolded when it only took a few seconds for Quintin's sister before she finally grabbed me and managed to strangle me around my neck. "Don't you dare touch me or I'll end the life of this pathetic mortal!" she threatened the man in front of us while I was currently struggling to breathe. "I w-will kill y-you!" I tried harder to fight her back but I still ended up helpless because she was stronger than me. "Go ahead, kill her," the man said without hesitation. "W-what?" Quintin's sister froze for a moment while still choking me to death. "If you're thinking that I care about mortals like her then you are completely mistaken." "Go on, suck her blood, and don't leave a single drop. I'll just consider this as your last supper before I cut you into pieces," the man added, causing me to clench my fists tightly. If I live today I will make sure to have my revenge and take the lives of these two vampires myself. "Arrghh! Damn it!" I didn't hesitate to caress my neck as I was breathing well when she let go of me. "I'm b-begging you, please d-don't kill me! I promise to leave this world and never come back again," she begged on her knees to spare her life. "Tsk, too late for that." The man didn't think twice and immediately rushed at her. "Ahh! You jerk!!!" She strived to fight for her life but the man was absolutely dominant and many times stronger than her. In the end, a deep sword stabbing through her chest ended her life and burned her to ashes. My eyes snapped open as I stared at the man with the flaming sword when I realized that his face seemed familiar to me. "J-Jade, my niece," I heard Uncle Roman's voice that immediately caught my attention. I didn't waste any more time and quickly approached him while he was still bleeding and lying on the ground. I couldn't stop my hands from shaking as I now held Uncle's neck to wipe the blood from his wound. "Uncle! Hold on and I'll take you to the hospital!" I whimpered. "Jade, f-forgive me if I didn't b-believe you," he uttered stuttering. My heart almost broke into pieces when I saw how Uncle is struggling right now because of his situation. "Help! Please call an ambulance!" I desperately shouted to our men, but when I turned around to look for them, all I saw were their dead bodies. My forehead furrowed in confusion as even the vampires all disappeared like dust in the wind. Except for the man standing in front of us and the one who killed the Lacernas. "Are you just gonna stand there and do nothing?!" I scolded the man with the sword but he didn't even open his mouth to speak. "J-Jade, it's fine," Uncle whispered to me, causing me to get in a panic and feel a pain in my chest. "Don't say that, Uncle." I immediately hugged him with tears streaming down my face because I couldn't hold it anymore. "He's gone," I heard the man say in front of me. I was stunned for a few seconds before finally looking at my uncle's wrist to check his pulse. "N-no, this isn't happening!" I felt my whole body weaken when I confirmed that Uncle's pulse was gone. "N-not him, not my uncle who raised and treated me like his own daughter," I whispered into the thin air. "Even if you shed a few decades of tears, you won't be able to bring his life back," I froze for a moment when I heard those unexpected words from the man in front of us. "Who are you? Why are you following me?!" I asked him when I glanced at him causing our eyes to meet. Since I saw him earlier, I knew his face was familiar to me and now I seem to know the reason why. I couldn't be wrong, he was the man who shot Quintin, and he was also the man who warned me what would happen to me if I chose to fight their kind. "I'm Cairo Valentine, and I'm not following you just like you think," he answered me quickly to introduce himself. "In fact, I'm just here to hunt down the Lacerna brothers," he added. "Nonsense! I know you're one of them too, so don't you dare come up with a fraudulent excuse to fool me!" I immediately aimed my guns at him, even though I knew that wasn't enough to protect myself against him. "I have no intention of hurting you," he assured me before I could finally see how the flaming sword he was holding disappeared from his hand. "Your kind just killed my uncle!" I yelled at him showing my rage towards his kind, but he just gently shook his head at me. "Is that how a mortal like you say thank you? After I saved your life?" he answered me while folding his arms together. "After you ordered that vampire to suck my blood to the last drop, you still have the nerve to tell me that you saved my life?!" "I saw everything that happened earlier with her brother, and I know that he was poisoned when he drank your blood," he promptly replied, causing me to be dazed for a moment. "Your blood is poisonous to us vampires, isn't that amazing?" I swallowed hard because I could feel my fresh blood dripping from the painful wound on my neck. After a while, I saw him sit in front of me without breaking his gaze, which gave way for me to look closely at his bright and seemingly burning eyes. Even the perfect shape of his nose and face scream perfection, there is no denying that a very handsome creature is in front of me now. "Aren't you looking for your parents? I can help you find them if you help me."
