Chapter 8

I was watching Edward Huxxen at the top of the stage when my eyes turned to a man who suddenly approached me, "Hey Gorgeous, Care to dance with me?" he said asking me to join him dancing while they were now playing a piece of slow music. "I'm sorry, but I don't dance. If you'll excuse me," I answered him quickly before I completely walked away from him. "Why are you so mean to him?" I heard Cairo sarcastically ask me. "Shut it, we didn't come here just to dance," I replied to him unable to hide my frustration in my tone. He didn't say a thing but I heard his silly laugh before turning my attention back to Edward Huxxen. A split second later, my forehead slightly creased when I noticed that he was spreading his eyes around as if he were looking for someone in the four corners of this party hall. "I'm the one he's looking for...I'm sure he's been sensing my presence in this place for a while now," Cairo stated in a serious tone. Fortunately, the theme of this party was masquerade and it helped that our faces were not easily recognized "W-wait what do you think you're doing?" I immediately asked him when he suddenly pulled me to the middle of the dance floor without even saying anything. "We need to do something to distract him," he mouthed to me as he held my waist and led me in a slow dance. I was quiet for a second when I finally understood what he was trying to do. He wanted to hide his presence with the crowd and it seems to be a good idea since many of the guests are now dancing here with us. "Did it work?" I asked him when I couldn't see Edward Huxxen in our current situation since we were already surrounded by guests who were also swaying to the slow music. "I'm not sure, he's still looking for me in the crowd," he hissed in my ear, causing me to feel the warmth of his breath on my neck and ears. My heart was pounding in my chest when I realized how close we were to each other. "We need to act now before he gets a chance to escape us" he added, as he completely distanced himself from me. We exchanged glances, causing me to frown when I saw a seductive smile crossed his face. I was about to take my eyes off him when suddenly I was stunned my eyes widened because I felt him take my hand and kiss it gently. "H-how dare-ahhh!" I whined at the unexpected wound on my palm caused by the blade of the ring he was wearing. "You jerk! Why do you have to do this?!" I quickly asked him, full of frustration and disbelief while trying to tame my anger to calm myself for what he did. "I'm sorry, but this is the only way I see to get him without us using force," I heard him explain. However, I couldn't help but roll my eyes at him because of the painful wound he caused on my palm. When I caught a glimpse of it, fresh blood was already dripping from the wound causing me to immediately shift my gaze to where Edward Huxxen was. "Tsk, now look at him...that rascal can already smell the sweet and strong scent of your blood," Cairo said in delight as we observed the changes in the behavior of the birthday celebrant of this masquerade party. I can now clearly see with my two eyes how Edward seems to be losing control because of his constant sniffing through the air. He could no longer hide the unusual agility of his movements. Some of his guests noticed his strange behavior so they were surprised. It wasn't long before he finally found where the smell of fresh blood mixing with the air he breathed was coming from. I swallowed hard when in just a second, he managed to meet my glare and he was now planning to come near me. "Let's go, we need to get out of here," I heard Cairo say before he swiftly pulled me towards the exit of this party hall. His movement was so fast as if I was hit by a strong wind for just seconds before we finally got out of the party hall. "He's coming," two seconds after Cairo said those words, I saw Edward Huxxen right at the exit of the party hall. I bit the inside of my lips when I clenched my wounded hand causing blood to drip onto the ground. I noticed Edward sniffing the air as he approached us. "That's right...come closer, Vampire," I whispered through the thin air. A smirk slowly formed on my mouth as he didn't take his eyes off me. In just a blink of an eye, we were able to face him closely while a dazzling smile appeared on his face along with the desire to drink my blood which was evident through his eyes. If this vampire is a mortal I can say based on his appearance that he's the same age as Uncle Roman. "Good evening, would you mind me asking who is this stunning young lady now in front of me?" Edward asked me politely. "Happy birthday, Lord Edward." I didn't have a second thought of removing my mask to reveal myself to him. "Y-you are Jade Fonacier, aren't you? The sole heiress of my friend Roman..." "I'm glad that you took the time to attend this special occasion of mine," he immediately replied to me simply throwing a glance at my wounded palm. "What are you doing here anyway? Wait...don't say you're already leaving and the party has just started," he added as his eyes gently pinned over me. "It's a pleasure to finally meet you, Lord Huxxen," Cairo mouthed to interrupt, but Edward didn't seem to hear him because he didn't even throw a single glance at him. Instead, he focused even more attention on my fresh blood that was still dripping onto the floor.
