Chapter 17: Heart broken?

The recess ended and as we walked out of the backyard, Andrew tried to reach me, when he saw I just ignored him, he tried to take my wrist, he couldn’t do it because I pulled my arm away from him and Larry took his arm, I didn’t even looked at them, I saw them and what happened askance, but they did not make me stop or turn to them, I tried really hard, I pushed myself away from him, I am done with his little game.
I crossed the passageway, and before I stepped out of it, I heard him, Andrew, calling my name “Vanessa” but then Larry’s voice made him stop “Hey stop it, you screwed up badly Andy”, I nodded as I continued walking towards my classroom among other people, without looking back at them.
When I got inside my classroom and sat on my seat Steph turned back at me “That was savage, are you seriously never talking to him ever again?”
“I guess, I don’t know, my heart hurts every time I see him”
“Are you heartbroken?” Lou said with an elongated tone on broken
“I don’t think so, just totally disappointed, I don’t need a friend like him, such a liar”
“When did he lie? We never asked if he was single” Sandy commented
I guess she is right, I never asked, he never said he likes me or anything, but it feels like a lie or a betrayal.
I just shrugged at Sandy as we sat in place to start our next class.
The rest of the classes flew, and I was happy to go home.
We finished and walked out of school, said our goodbyes, and took our own walk home.
I felt someone watching me from behind, I looked back and there he was, Andrew, he looked like he was going to say something, I just turned to the front and walked a bit faster.
When I passed in front of the house, he crossed the street and stopped outside looking at me, I looked at him once, he waved goodbye and I answered with a grin. I walked back home.
That afternoon I was watching tv again when a knock on the door interrupted me.
I opened the door to see Alex, Ralph, my cousins, and Andrew.
Alex said hi to me and asked for my brother, once I told him he wasn’t home, he usually is always outside, he asked me for some wrenches to fix their bikes.
“Huh all your bikes need fixing?” Freaking unbelievable, do these two morons know what happened with Andrew? I don’t think so, sneaky bastard!
“We will fix them here, just lend us the wrenches, pleaseeeee, yes?” Ralph made me puppy dog eyes, I frowned at him and got inside to bring the toolbox.
They opened the box and started doing things on their bikes, I just sat there watching them do their things, Andrew gave me some glances, when I got mad enough, I blurted out “Are you going to Claire’s house after finishing your bike?” I grin devilish at him.
He looked shocked by the sudden questioning and before he could say something Alex said, “Why would he go to Claire’s house?”
“To see his girlfriend” I replied at Alex
Alex and Ralph burst into laughter while Andrew was looking to the floor.
“She is not his girlfriend, are you crazy?” Ralph told me
“Of course, she is, she even sat on his lap the other day, charmingly bouncing on him” I couldn’t take it anymore and gave them the complete description of my last awake nightmare.
They both looked at Andrew, laughing Alex told him “You are a dog man”
Andrew smirked but didn't raise his gaze.
“She is not girlfriend material, at least not even close at you” Ralph added
I frowned at Ralph's comment and ranted at him “She is your cousin, why do you talk like that about her?”
“Everybody knows how she acts; we can’t deny that”
I looked at him while he added “And also everybody knows how you act cous”
Andrew looked at me and nodded, then busy himself with the bike.
“Hey Ralph and your brother?” I asked him to change the topic and ease the tension in the air.
“Which one, ha?”
“Little Leo, he is in Andrew's classroom, right?”
Andrew nodded and Ralph answered “he got into a fight last weekend”
“Why is he always fighting? He is the sweetest cousin I have, I swear”
Alex's laughter made me look at him to hear him say “His height doesn’t make him any favors, you know?”
Everybody nodded, he was right. I guess that as Leo is 6’ 6” tall, that does not make any favor for him, even when he is the coolest person in the room, in every fight there is someone that wants to fight with him, poor soul.
They finally finished their fixing, got all the tools back and when I was about to stand and get inside Alex started talking, asking me about the school, and Ralph, I sat back, and we chatted for an hour or so.
Alex, Ralph, and Andrew are all the same age, Ralph is also at our school but not Alex, and Little Leo is one year older, but he failed one year, and now is in second grade like all of them, and in Andrew's classroom.
Ralph is in the other second grade group, but usually they all hang together.
Out of the blue Ralph asked me “Hey cous do you have a boyfriend?”
“What? Me? Nooooo” I answered
He and Alex laughed as Andrew just stared at me.
“But do you like someone at school?” He continued
“What? Who? Me?”
Alex stopped laughing, Andrew kept looking at me and Ralph continued with the interrogation.
“Yes, you, do you like someone?”
“Why are you asking?” I asked suspiciously
“We, I mean, I am just curious, you are new at school, but I know of some guys from my group and the others that want to try something with you, are you looking for a boyfriend?”
“Haha not funny Ralph, stop lying” I sarcastically answered to try to avoid the topic, I am not going to talk of my crush in front of my ex-crush? ex? really?
“I am not lying, I swear, there are several gu-“
“Stop that Ralph” Andrew cut him off while looking at me, I gulped and kept silent, “She doesn’t have why to respond to you, so stop it” He added
“Ay ay how sensitive, man, relax Andy”
“Ok guys, always a pleasure but this lady says goodbye, be careful”
“Yes, cous see you around and if anyone bothers you at school tell me and I fix him instantly” Ralph said, and I nodded while smiling at him
“See ya prima” Alex told me, and I waved him goodbye
They started riding their bikes, but Andrew stood there looking at me, without saying anything, oh gosh why is he so handsome? I hate that he is so good looking
When he was about to say something, Ralph screamed, “let go Andy”
Andrew got startled and then smiled at me “Thanks Vanessa, see you tomorrow” and before I could say anything he went away riding.
