“Good night,” I whispered the next night as I snuck out of Becca’s room. Kevin had finally gotten to where he put himself to bed after reading for a little while. Becca, though, she didn’t want me to leave some nights. And it always happened when I had a ton of stuff to finish.
I tiptoed down the stairs and paused, listening. No sounds. No movement. With any luck she’d stay asleep. She hadn’t slept well since she’d gotten sick the weekend before.
