THE MISSING LUNA

Chapter 4
For several minutes, Sophia remained quiet. She couldn't believe what Roland had just told her. Yes, she had this pull towards him but that was that. She never envisioned he would say something like this.
"How do you know this?", Sophia asked.
Ronald raised his right arm, pulling down his sleeve. The wolf tattoo shone brightly under the early morning sun. Sophia gasped upon seeing the tattoo, she had one exactly like this but where his was black, Sophia's was white. Sophia pulled down her black tunic revealing her white tattoo. Roland smiled, he wasn't surprised by this. The Moon goddess sure had a way of drawing people together.
"I was right then. Why do you think I keep coming here? There's this pull I feel towards you", Roland said.
"But how? Does this mean my mother is your father's wife? I don't understand", Sophia said with a confused expression on her face.
"Not all the details are clear to me. I guess the right person to ask is my father. Are you doing anything now", Roland said.
"No. Nothing pressing at the moment, please let's go I need some answers before I loose my mind", Sophia said.
An hour later, they were sitting in the visitor's lodge. Alpha Fredrick sat in his high back chair facing them.
"Greetings Alpha Fredrick. My name is Sophia", she said, bowing slightly.
Alpha Fredrick stared at her for a long time and couldn't help seeing the resemblance she had with his late wife.
"I never thought this day would come. Welcome child", Fredrick said.
Sophia nodded, her heart slamming in her chest. She couldn't deny it, she was scared. She didn't know what to expect from this meeting. Sensing her nervousness, Roland gave his sister a gentle squeeze on her hand.
"Thank you", Sophia simply said.
"Father, please we would like to know everything about Sophia's birth", Roland said.
"You were a baby when my late wife, you and Sophia's mother travelled to s distant kingdom. Sophia was just a little pup, she decided to take her alone and leave you here with me since you weren't s little child anymore. On their way, they got waylaid. Her guards and servants were killed. You would be dead if the Moon goddess hadn't intervened. With your mother's dieing breath, she called the Moon goddess to rescue you when she couldn't protect you any more. You disappeared without a trace. Your mother died that night due to the many wounds she sustained during the attack", Alpha Fredrick said.
Roland and Sophia sat quietly as they mulled over his words. Sophia understood better why there was no single trace of resemblance between her and her supposed family.
"But how did I meet the family I now belong to?", Sophia asked.
"That too is not clear to me but I think the Moon goddess dropped you off there until you finally came of age. Please, where are they? I must thank them for taking care of you", Alpha Fredrick said.
"They've gone to the neighbouring kingdom, they would be back by dusk", Sophia said.
"Who was responsible for our mother's death father?", Roland growled.
"Wolves. Rouge wolves who have no sympathy for human lives".
"They also killed my brother when he went hunting. Up until now, his body has never been found", Sophia said.
"And they are here again but father, what exactly do they want?", Roland said.
"Land. A settlement of their own, I would rather die than grant them that request. There's no telling what would happen if I allow that. The peace and tranquility we've enjoyed for years would be destroyed", Alpha Fredrick said.
"Do they have a leader, someone we can talk to. There must be someone leading this pack", Roland said.
"Yes, his name is Alpha Callum. But be very careful son, he's as dangerous as a knife to the heart. You can not take him down alone. I thank the goddess for bringing you your sister when you needed her the most. Two heads are better than one", he said.
"There's still one thing that bothers me. Ronald, clearly I'm not your mate since I'm your blood. Who then is your mate?", Sophia asked.
"The Moon goddess has revealed that she's out there somewhere. It's left to me to find her. I don't know where but I would do everything within my power to find her", Roland said.
"Thread with patience and caution my son. You would need those more than anything else", Fredrick said.
Roland had heard those words times without number. He would begin and this time, he vowed to flush out every miscreant standing in their way of peace. He was ready and with his sister by his side, there was no stopping them.
