Meanwhile, Mark Avorn and Darrin Semp had landed back at the Army base. Both gave a sigh of relief to be back on American soil. The platoon was instructed to go to their barracks and not to make any phone calls until after debriefing the next day. The guys took showers and put away their things before going to the mess hall for a meal. They were so excited they couldn’t settle to sleep, so they sat around talking until they began to get drowsy. They didn’t know what to expect at the debriefing, but they were ready to go home.
