40 Dream-Admiring Squid Monster

1649 Words
Peter left the woman’s house and went to the street only to see a giant squid a few blocks from where he was.   A guy of his age ran to him. “Is that the dream-admiring squid?” he asked Peter, who was a little surprised.   He looked at the stranger. He had never met him before but he just nodded. “Yeah, I think so,” he said and looked at the squid monster. “I’ve never seen it before. I just heard about them around dream space. He looked at the guy. “Are you from here?”   The question caught the guy off-guard. He smiled in embarrassment. “I’m from another town. I just came here to roam around for some business,” he said.   Peter just looked at him suspiciously. “No, that’s not what you think!” the guy said in his defense. When he found himself in an awkward situation with Peter, he scratched the back of his head and walked away, creating a car he could drive. “I’ll see you around, dude,” the guy said and left, avoiding the route where the squid monster was.   He quickly created a wing on his back and flew above to see if there were people there, possibly a dreamlord. But there wasn’t. The guy from earlier was the only dreamlord around aside from him.   As the squid slowly walked around the streets, the white-blue beam was zooming to the squid, as its eyes were blaring red.   Dream-admiring squid monsters were pests in the dream space. No one knew since when they started to appear, but Peter heard that they were accidentally made by a dreamlord, and people failed to kill them.   That was the start of them infesting in the dream space. Five of them started to double, and for the past centuries, dream kingdom monitored there could be two hundred of them roaming around dream space.   They were only a few around the vast dream space, but they were powerful.   Those squid monsters individually appear at random time and location. They fed on people’s dreams, but it was a mystery on what purpose it was used for. They couldn’t grow on collecting dreams, but they absorb them for an unknown purpose, which frequently concerned dreamlords and the management of dream kingdom.   It didn’t have any other known effects for people having their dreams absorbed, except, people could possibly die in real life if they’d die in their dream when squid monsters were near the orbs in a kilometer radius.   Since there were no dream kingdom officers yet to at least fight and repel the squid monster, he chose to approach it and probably try something to repel it.   When he was just about to fly towards the squid, it suddenly looked his way.   He dodged and quickly hid behind a house. He never felt such fear in a long time.   Creating a mirror, he used it to see if the squid was still looking on his way, but the squid was looking somewhere else now.   He made the mirror disappear and hid there for now. He needed a plan.   The weakness of the squid monster? He didn’t have any idea. It was his first time encountering the monster. Although he had heard a lot about them, he never heard anything about their weakness or anything they could use to defeat them.   He heard about people on the dream kingdom being able to repel them and move them to a less-populated location, but he didn’t have any details about it.   There was no choice; he had to use his way until people from the dream kingdom would arrive to do what they had to do.   First, he made a machine he could connect on his hand, and powerful beams could be fired from it. On his other hand, he made a powerful sword with its blade made out of the fire.   He upgraded the wings on his back and made it steel, so it wouldn’t be destroyed easily, in case the squid hose to attack back. He also made armor suits that would specifically protect his head and chest.   He was still on his dream. If he died with the squid monster around, he’d die, too. It was easy to be careful than not.   When he was ready, he flew above and stroke an attack to the squid monster. He fired beams from the machine on his hand, and he got a little close to the squid monster to use his fire sword. He made few slashes and flew a little far to see if he had made damage.   He saw few burns on the giant squid’s face, but it quickly healed. He made few cuts on its tentacles; he managed to cut four of its tentacles. They were squirming on the ground.   But Peter couldn’t believe what he just saw. The giant squid monster just grew its tentacles back and those that he cut dissolved on the ground in liquid form.   “s**t,” he cursed a few more words under his breath and thought of changing his plan.   He flew far away from the squid and removed his weapons but retained the steel wings and the protective armor.   He suddenly had an idea and created a giant robot he could control, upgrading its weapons as multiple fires of powerful beams and a giant fire sword.   Quickly, he entered the control room of the giant robot. The giant squid was looking at him.   He controlled the giant robot and ran to the giant squid to throw a punch, but this time, the squid used its tentacles as a defense.   Peter in the giant robot was now thrown backward, hitting a house. Fortunately, they were just copied on the dream space, so they weren’t destructible unless they were demolished in the physical world.   He quickly gained his balance and used his weapons, the beam guns poking out of the robot’s chest while one hand of the robot was holding the fire sword.   He fired the beam gun aiming at the squid and prepared to attempt yet again to cut all of its tentacles. Because he was thinking the squid could lose at least a few of its power if all the tentacles were cut altogether.   He controlled the giant robot to run while still firing the beam gun. When he was near the squid, he took the fire sword and quickly slashed all its tentacles. Peter didn’t waste the chance to decapitate it as well, but the squid, despite its giant size, quickly dodged his last attack.   Peter pressed the self-destruct button and quickly flew away with his steel wings. He looked at the giant robot and watched it explode.   Unfortunately, none of it affected the giant squid.   He mentally noted that it was impossible to cut the tentacles of the squid, and it was quick despite its size. The explosion just burned the squid, and the creature was quick to heal.   It left him with one last plan.   While hiding, he quickly created a gun that could fire icecaps, and whatever the icecaps hit, it would be frozen. Another was a fire blaster. It was in the design of a fire extinguisher, but it blows fire that could burn.   The ice gun was hanged on his back, and he chose to use the fire blaster first.   He flew close to the squid, and the creature must’ve had expected his attack so it used its regrown tentacles to attack him but he was also quick to dodge the squid’s attack. When he was behind the squid, he used the fire blaster and attacked the squid, flying around the creature while continuously attacking it.   The squid growled and defended itself with attacks using its tentacles. Peter multi-tasked, attacking while dodging the attempted attacks of the giant squid.   At this point, since Peter was a distraction, the squid couldn’t absorb dreams anymore. It wasn’t bad. At least, Peter could at least stop it absorb dreams for a while. But he didn’t know how long he could last there. He was running out of the idea.   The squid had a chance to hit him with one of its tentacles, and Peter was thrown yet again, but he had his steel wings, so he quickly gained his balance and took a different route, where the squid wouldn’t see him coming from.   He disposed of the fire blaster because it didn’t work. He just hoped the ice gun would work.   He took it from his back and flew from behind the squid, but the creature turned quickly, seeing him.   Peter flew around, making the creature looking a little stupid. When he got the chance to get behind again, he aimed the gun and fired at the squid monster.   He waited until something happen, but the squid turned around again, seeing him.   The squid was now mad. Peter could tell because the expression on the squid monster looked like his mom when she was mad. Peter had the time to laugh a little.   While continuously flying around the mad squid monster, Peter also continuously fired the ice gun.   He was able to dodge the creature’s attack as it continued growling in annoyance. And he never stopped firing the ice gun.   Peter had landed on the ground and watched at what would it do to the squid, but the creature only absorbed the icecaps.   And now, the squid was looking at him. The creature lost interest in the dreams and now just wanted to kill Peter.
