Right Direction Pt. 1

        Alpha Chase looked at his brother sitting outside where Lexi’s protected house was. I sighed, “Go home Cameron.” Cameron looked at me, “Might as well face the music with Reagan. Are you alright?” I sighed, “No, I’m not alright. I don’t understand what’s going on.  I can’t ask my mate directly because I’m an idiot.” Cameron said, “You aren’t an i***t Chase.” I said, “I AM! I married Sophia. That was stupid.” Cameron said, “It was the right thing to do. No matter what anyone says. We may be evolving as a group, but four years ago…. We were not moving anywhere near acceptance for women leading packs. Sophia had the right to be their leader. You didn’t mate with her, or anything else Chase. You were simply allowing her to take her rightful place among her pack.” Tears filled my eyes, “I had no f*****g clue her Gamma betrayed her. I didn’t even f*****g care that I hadn’t hear a words from Gamma Wyatt in months. I was just glad one member of her staff wasn’t a thorn in my side. Why didn’t she tell me? I could’ve helped her. WE could’ve helped her. Instead my f*****g mate is inside alone. She thinks she’s going crazy because she can smell me. Which means I’m going to have to stay back farther from her. I hate this whole f****d up situation. I want to be with her, I want to comfort her, I want to protect her. I want to know what the HELL is going on! Why don’t her people know that Henrick is dead?” I ran my hands through my hair. “I can’t even thoroughly protect my Beta’s mate because I can’t out him to his family and pack. That has to be on Matt’s timeline, but I sent them to stay in an ally’s territory. I feel like the worst f*****g Alpha in the history of Alpha’s.”

            Cameron sighed, “I’m not leaving you like this Chase. I can’t and I won’t. You are not a bad Alpha or person. You’re my big brother. You have a heart of gold. Honestly, I think it makes you a great Alpha. Are you the stone cold brutal Alpha Eric Conners? No, but he’s not quite as hard anymore. Ruthless if you cross him, but the Princess has thawed his cold frozen heart. You see the good in people. You are the FIRST Alpha in the HISTORY of Alpha’s to be cool with your Beta being gay. Not only supporting him for who he is, but not making him have a female as his wife. Do you even know how big that is?” I snorted, “Alpha Lyons or Alpha Conners would’ve done the same.” Cameron said, “Sure, but they didn’t have the choice. You did, and you don’t give a s**t if anyone gets upset. You’re there for your friend and Beta.” I said, “So?” Cameron sighed, “So you’re not a bad Alpha. You are a fair man. It’s not like you're not aggressive when the situation calls for it Chase. You were only eighteen and so was Sophia. You didn’t have much life experience or experience leading a pack. You just knew she should get to lead as you would’ve if anything had happened to dad. That’s not a bad thing.” I looked at where Lexi was, “Feels like it was. Feels like I should’ve been more like Alpha Conners and told her to buck up and take the role because it was hers.”

            Cameron rolled his eyes, “Which is why she didn’t ask him. You guys discussed it at length. You didn’t blindly agree to this, Chase. She just back out on her end. You never planned to stay married.” I said, “I didn’t think about Lexi. Or what this would do to her.” Cameron said, “You always had a plan to end this though, Chase. You should just explain it all to her.” I said, “I know. I plan to lay it all out for her.  Starting with it’s not romantic, and it’s not even supposed to be going on. It’s not real. Lexi is real, she’s everything.” Cameron said, “I know man. I know what the mate pull is and how it feels. You’re stronger than any Alpha I know to resist going to her Chase. Alpha Conners had Haley in his castle within minutes of meeting her. One of their pack members told me he never had any intention of letting her leave the grounds. I CHASED Reagan… through the woods when I knew she was coming back. I even know where she would come back to. I couldn’t resist it the pull, her smell, any of it. Alpha Jackson Conners was leading Molly back to her room the second he smelled her. He didn’t even link to say he was crossing the border with us. He just came over and took her. She moved THAT day. You’re not the bad guy here.” I turned to him, “What if I’m the bad guy to Lexi? She’s got this f*****g ex asshole who clearly hurt her. Here I am …. Her forever. The person made for her, and I’m a married man.” Cameron said, “Give her some credit Chase. Just talk to her.” I sighed, “I desperately want to talk to her, but not until this is resolved.” We sat in silence for several hours before Cameron was satisfied that I was fine. Only did he finally go home. I shifted back into Bolt and went back about one hundred yards. I still had a view of where Lexi had disappeared, but I hoped she wouldn’t be able to smell me from this far away. I didn’t want to upset her.

            Matt linked me, “My worrying mate is on the phone with yours. I told him she was fine, but he couldn’t sleep until she confirmed it herself.” I groaned, “What time is it?” Matt said, “It’s four in the morning.” I shrugged, “Alright.” Matt said, “I want you to call a meeting with my family. I even want Molly and Alpha Jackson there too.” I was surprised, “You want me at your coming out family meeting?” Matt said, “I know. I should do it alone, but I need you there Chase.” I said, “Not a problem. When?” Matt replied, “Today, lunch time.” I said, “Consider it done.”  Matt said, “Thanks. I really appreciate it.” I said, “Anything you need. I’m here for you.” Matt said, “I feel like a teenager… I’m so scared to disappoint my parents.” I said, “I don’t think they will be disappointed.” Matt said, “Apparently your mate is a smartie pants. She disconnected her phone and has a burner phone. Ted said only he and Haley have the number to said burner phone. She paid in cash for it in Florida. I don’t know what they are or what they do… but she’s f*****g good at it.” I sighed, “Of course she is.” Matt said, “Ummm... she yelled at you last night?” I sighed, “I thought I was far back enough that she couldn’t smell me. I have adjusted the distance.” Matt laughed, “She thinks she’s paranoid.” I winced, “I didn’t mean for her too. Why didn’t they just explain Henrick is dead to their people? Did Ted tell you?” 

            Matt said, “They are talking about it right now, I’ll ask.” After several moments Matt replied, “You are not going to like this.” I said, “Of course not. What have I liked about this entire damn thing?” Matt sighed, “Apparently, if their people knew Henrick had come after them; they’d lock them away until they could plug whatever leak is going on. I have a plan though.” I said, “Good. I need a f*****g plan.” Matt said, “Call Alpha Kyle. I investigated Henrick. He and his people were staying in Red Run. Ask Alpha Kyle to put out the word he killed him. Tell him it’s to protect my mate.” I sighed, “Calling Red Run.” Matt laughed, “Right now?” I said, “I’m up. He can be up. I’m grumpy.” Matt laughed. I shifted and grabbed my phone. I dialed. “Alpha Kyle speaking.” I said, “It’s Alpha Chase. I’m sorry to wake you.” Alpha Kyle cut me off. You didn’t. We had a rogue issue. They woke me up, inconsiderate jerks. What can I do for you Alpha Chase?” I said, “You had a man Henrick staying in your area. He was from London” Alpha Kyle said, “Yes, he came in with six people I believe.” I said, “They attacked my Beta’s mate and we killed them all.” Alpha Kyle said, “Alright. I wasn’t aware Beta Matt found his mate.” I said, “Haven’t announced it yet. I need you to circulate that you had a meeting with Henrick. That he crossed you, and you had to kill him.” Alpha Kyle laughed, “You don’t even have a fairy, and you’re interesting. Why do you need that circulated?” I sighed, “We do not yet know what supernatural being my Beta’s mate is, but… His people want to put him on lockdown because Henrick is in town. If his people find out he was actually attacked they will lock him down until their leak is resolved. My Beta is beside himself. We would obviously go to war should his mate be taken. I’d like to avoid a war and conflict with them…. considering I have no clue who they are.” Alpha Kyle laughed, “I’ll have Ben get on circulating the word right away. We just ended the fairy war. We need at least a year in between wars.” We both laughed and I hung up.

            I linked Matt, “Done.” Matt said, “Do I have NEWS for you, my friend.” I sighed, “What now?” Matt snorted, “Oh…. Lexi doesn’t want to meet you because she’s dreaming about you and Bolt. Ever since she saw you that night, we killed Henrick.” I replied, “I am both hurt and happy by that statement.”  Matt snorted, “She said if she spent time with you, she just knows you’d own her heart. Apparently, this f****d up dude, who we know as Noah, messed her up good, Chase. She knows you, mind you not Chase you the mate you, God this is confusing. Have a situation in your life, but not what. She doesn’t want to meet you, Chase, because her mate, again you, could pop up at any moment. She doesn’t think spending time with you, Chase, would be fair to him, you. I am admirably holding in my laughter. I just want that on the record. She doesn’t want to meet you because of her mate. Which… is you. I can’t man…. This s**t is hilarious.” I said, “I’m laughing. Really hard.” Matt said, “I can tell. She knows Haley is trying to fix your situation. And…. uh oh.” I said, “What? What happened? Did Ted’s people track you to Alpha Conners territory?” I sat up on alert. Matt said, “No… Lexi just let it slip that her ex lied to her about something. Let me get details. Ted is red faced angry.” I sighed, “Hurry up.” Matt said, “Well, Lexi knows that I’m Ted’s mate now, and you will DEFINITELY not like this.” I said, “I long for the day you will give me news I like. Lately you’ve been a downer.” Matt linked, “I am TRYING not to laugh, and you are not helping.” I said, “What won’t I like? You bearer of all good news, you.” Matt said, “Not helping. Lexi was tricked by her ex into sleeping with him. She wanted to wait for her person, but he lied to her. The day before her birthday he told her he was her mate, and he’d felt pulled to her since he was eighteen.” I said, “Pulled? So we’ve narrowed down what they are. That’s why she turns towards me and begins to come towards me. She’s being pulled.” Matt said, “WHAT ARE THEY? I have no f*****g clue.”

            I snorted, “They could be angels, hood, or demons.” Matt said, “If my mate and yours are literal angels the goddess is mocking us.” I laughed, “They are probably demons. Let’s be honest.” Matt said, “Ohhhh I do hope they have fire hands then.” I said, “So, the dead piece of s**t named Noah tricked her into having s*x; by not abiding her wishes to save herself for well me.” Matt said, “Yes, he did trick her. Lexi then decided to keep having s*x with other people to see if s*x was really bad, or just bad with him.” I growled, “He didn’t even make it good for her? ASSHOLE! Was he a virgin too?” Matt said, “Not according to my TeleTed.” I growled, “I hate this guy. We will now just refer to him as the dead motherfucker. Because if I EVER see him…. He’s dead. I don’t like the thought of her with other guys, but I’m not a virgin either. I can’t believe he disrespected her like that. No wonder she doesn’t trust people.” Matt said, “The story is not over.” I growled, “What else did he do?” Matt answered, “At whatever ceremony they have, he started to walk towards her as if she was pulling him. At the last second evidently, he smirked at her, and turned away to his real mate.” I was speechless. “Why would he do that? His mate had to see that.” Matt said, “Evidently she did. She also knows that he lied to Lexi about being her mate because one girl had gone to talk to Lexi. Seems Lexi has a Luna role type thing going on in their whatever the f**k they are group. The girl heard and fled as things happened.” I said, “I actually feel really bad for them both.” Matt said, “I do too. I’ve seen the girl, Sally, they are talking about. She’s cute as a button. She’s nice to everyone I’ve heard her talk to.” I rolled my eyes, “How often were you at our damn border stalking your mate?” Matt said, “I plead the fifth.”

            Matt said, “I guess this dead motherfucker circulated that he thought Lexi was pulling him, and he felt just awful.”  I said, “So he’s a sociopath. Good to know.” Matt said, “Apparently Prince Bjourn made Haley promise not to kill the dead motherfucker unless he caused a problem. I guess after she took Lexi home with her, she was enraged.” I said, “I wish she would’ve just popped and killed him before anyone made her promise.” Matt said, “So does Ted. Gotta go. Your mate got Ted a place like hers. He’s going to mark me when we get there.” I said, “I’m calling a family meeting…. With your family at noon. You requested this…. Remember?” Matt said, “Yeah, yeah, yeah. I’ll be there.” He closed our link and I called Matt’s dad. “Alpha Chase. It’s early.” I smiled, “Yes, Isaac it is. I need you to get your family to my office at lunchtime.” Isaac was quiet, “My whole family? Is everything alright?” I said, “Yes, whole family. Even Molly and Jackson. I’ll call Alpha Jackson myself.” Isaac said, “Is Matt ok? He’s been MIA lately… I'' I cut him off, “Matt’s fine, and he knows about the meeting.” Isaac said, “You swear to me Alpha…. My boy is alright?” I said, “I promise you he is.” Isaac was relieved, “Alright. I’ll get everyone there.” I hung up and called Alpha Jackson. “Alpha Chase.” I said, “Alpha Jackson. I apologize for the late notice, but I need you and Luna Molly in my office at lunch time. For a Miller family meeting.” Alpha Jackson said, “Matt?” I said, “Yes, he’s going to tell all of them.” Alpha Jackson said, “It’s about time. I’ll have Haley or Bexley pop us in. See you then Chase.” 

            Matt linked me, “Ted is coming with me to the family meeting. Their lockdown is lifted. Haley used an IOU with Lexi’s brother. They are free. Plus Alpha Kyle already got word out.” I said, “Good.” I saw Lexi step out of her house. I was going to follow from a distance. I stalled when I saw a hooded figure step out on the other side to follow her. I tensed. Was this like my dream? Was this person going to hurt her? I growled and followed them both. She must have sensed she was being followed but she didn’t see anything when she turned. The man had hidden. I frowned. He was older, around my dad's age. Why would he follow her? He stopped closer to where Lexi had, but I stayed back. I was close enough to hear, but not close enough either would know I was here. The older man watched Lexi with open interest. I turned sharply when she said hello to her parents. She had stopped in front of two graves. I wanted nothing more than to go to her. A man came up behind her. She turned and smiled at him. I relaxed when she called him Heath. This was her brother. The other man I was watching wiped a tear from his eye seeing the two of them together. Lexi and her brother argued. He said he’d hide her to protect her. Over my dead body. I could protect her. I agreed with her brother on one point. I couldn’t lose her. Bolt shuddered at the thought of that pain. Her brother was going to follow up on a lead about their parents' murders. The man watching them stiffened. He leaned forward as if he was trying to hear better. 

            Heath told Lexi to stay out of trouble. I’d keep her out of trouble, he didn’t need to worry. Then he said someone from their group was undercover in my club. Excuse me? WHO was Susanna? And WHY was she undercover in my area? My head was starting to hurt with all the questions I needed answers to. Lexi stiffened when Heath said she’d put a wall between them. The man watching them clenched his hands into a fist. Heath told her he’d respected her and Noah’s privacy. He was friends with the dead motherfucker? She didn’t tell him what happened? Why? He was her brother. If anyone did that to Susie… One I’d kill him. Two I would not be friends with that guy. Heath genuinely seemed to love Lexi. I was stunned when she said she didn’t lie to him anymore. Anymore? What did she lie about? GOD! Could I get some answers? Apparently, they keep things from each other, but never tell an actual lie. What? I almost fell over when Heath said the dead motherfucker was his lieutenant. Heath was their leader? f**k Lexi was the sister of their leader? He must not have his mate yet then if people still come to Lexi with problems. I snorted when Heath said Haley electrocuted the dead motherfucker the older man whirled around towards me. I ducked behind a tree in time. He didn’t see me and went back to listening. I held back my growl when Heath said Noah was blaming Lexi for telling his mate to back off having a baby. She wouldn’t do that. Heath said Noah liked control. I could tell. I wanted to shout because he’s a sociopath, but I refrained. I smiled when Lexi gave a reason for her standing meeting with Sally. I knew what that meeting was. It had to be the self-defense class she set up for Sally and Ted. Wait? Do Sally and Lexi believe Noah is a danger to Sally? His own mate? It wasn’t unheard of, but it was rare. To do that hurts your very soul. The dead motherfucker could be that rare percentage though. He sounded horrible. I’d put warriors on Sally discreetly. I couldn’t protect her outside my area though. 

            I smiled when Lexi said she felt at home in this area. I knew it was because of me. She was meant to be in this area. It pained the older man and her brother though. Deeply. I wanted to growl when Lexi said she would ask Reagan to protect her. I could and would protect both Ted and Lexi. She was mine. I had to admit my brother would protect her too. Kincade and Kevin showed up, and I begrudgingly left. I needed to get back for the Miller family meeting. I ran full speed. I grabbed shorts and a shirt before I walked into my office. Everyone except Matt was already there. I linked Matt, “Where are you?” Matt said, “Be there in five.” Isaac said, “Where is Matt?” I answered, “He’s on his way.” I raised an eyebrow when Matt walked in wearing a hoodie. He linked me, “They can’t see my mark yet.” Isaac stood and hugged Matt. “Dad?” Matt questioned as he hugged him back. I linked, “Where’s Ted?” Matt said, “Susie snatched him up. I didn’t want him to hear this first part in case it goes bad, but if it goes well... I’ll bring him in to meet them.” Isaac looked at his son, “You’re alright? The Alpha said you were.” Jenna said, “Dad, let’s just figure out why the family meeting was called before we jump to the worst case where Matt is not ok conclusions.” I nodded to Alpha Jackson, and said, “Thank you to you Alpha Jackson and Luna Molly for coming.” Molly smiled, “Oh please Chase, we grew up together. It’s Molly. We wouldn’t miss a family meeting.” I nodded. It was silent for several moments. I cleared my throat and I said, “Matt, this is your show.” Matt nodded and stood. He began to pace, “Right… so… I need to tell you guys something. Chase knows and…” Isaac said, “Son, please stop pacing you’re giving me a headache. Just spit it out.” Matt took a deep breath, “I’m gay. I tried to like girls; I really did. I just don’t.” Molly smiled broadly and Jenna smirked. I raised an eyebrow at her. She stuck her tongue out at me. 

            Isaac didn’t seem all together shocked either. His mate and Matt’s mom Isabella cleared her throat. “Wonderful. Now that we’ve FINALLY let the cat out of the bag. I have been discreetly gathering potential surrogate/egg donors/co-parent for you to have a child with.” I gaped. Matt said, “MOM!” Isabella rolled her eyes, “I said discreetly, don’t you mom me. Now, I’ve ordered them with stronger she wolves first. I have another list for whoever your partner is too. I put lots of choices on his list since I didn’t know what he would want in a....Jenna they are called baby momma’s right? Is that what you kids say?” Mat choked and Jenna said, “Yes mom.” Isabell nodded, “I’ve updated it through the years, so my list is current.” Matt said, “How did you know?” Isabella snorted, “A mother knows. I was just waiting for you to tell me, Mattie.” Jenna said, “I knew too. I followed you to Nebraska once. I was concerned you were sick or something, somehow. I saw you with that guy.” Matt said, “HOW did you follow me?” Jenna turned red, “Well…. I put a GPS on your car. ONLY because I thought you were sick. I took it off when you got back.” Isaac said, “Molly…. Your turn. How did you know?” Molly said, “Uhh…. I saw him leaving Eric’s room a few years back.” Isaac did a double take. Isabella laughed, “Really son? I have to say… I’m impressed. Alpha Eric Conners. Isn’t that some Isaac?” Isaac’s face was red, “It’s something dear.” Matt said, “Dad?” Isaac said, “Son, I won’t lie to you. It’s not the life I had envisioned for you when you were a child.” Matt’s face fell. Isaac continued, “But all I have ever wanted was for you to be happy. Are you happy?” Matt said, “I am, dad. I really am.” Isaac said, “Then I will adjust. This isn’t about you at all son. It’s about me and the plans I had envisioned. You pick someone to whatever… your mother says inseminate through a doctor and give me grandchildren. That’s my request. I assume since we are in the Alpha’s office having this discussion you are not stepping down.” Matt opened his mouth to speak, but his dad stood.

  Isaac looked at me, “I will not step back in Beta. Jenna will not either. If you force Matt to step down because of who he is…. My family will leave this pack with him.” Matt made a choked sound full of emotion, “Dad.” Isaac looked at his son, “I love this pack, son. I love Chase’s father like a brother. This pack is a part of me, but you and your sisters and your mother are my life. If you are not accepted here, then they don’t deserve any of us. I won’t watch my son stripped of his title for being himself. I just won’t do it. You’re happy. That’s what matters.” I said, “I agree, Isaac. I told Matt I would not ask him to step down. He is my Beta. That will not change. That actually leads us to the next part…. Matt?” Matt was staring at his dad. He had tears pouring down his cheeks, “You’re not disappointed in me dad?”
