I put my stuff up and jumped in my bathroom for a quick shower. Which was silly because I got right out and put on running clothes. I was amped up and needed to go for a run. I called Heath first. “Hi Lex. Miss me already?” I sighed, “Ted found his string.” Heath said, “That’s great!” I said, “Not done. His string is Beta in a pack near us.” Heath went quiet for several moments then said, “If his string rejected him for his position, they are going to be in a world of hurt from us. If this pack made his string step down. He is welcome with us.” I smiled, “Their Alpha did not let him step down. Ted is the first Beta Male in pack history.” Heath said, “Well… that is good.” I said, “Yes, but.” Heath interrupted, “I knew that was coming. I could literally hear the but in your voice when you first spoke.” I said, “Ted was kidnapped after our event. We had two and I had sent him to run one on his own.” Heath said, “He better be fine.” I said, “Haley and I went to get him. It’s known he’s hood now though.” Heath said, “That’s not a problem. He doesn’t go on missions. Now he’s part of the pack as their Beta Male. He and his Beta will be welcome in the shroud any time. Others will think twice about coming for him. What pack kidnapped him?” I looked at my phone. Haley had texted it to me, “Two hills pack.” Heath said, “Well, two hills pack of Kentucky is going to get a call and a visit from us. No one messes with the hood and gets away unscathed.” I laughed, “I said something similar. Gotta go Ted is calling to inform me that he’s fine.” Heath laughed, “Of course he is. You and Haley always cover your ass. It’s so impressive because she can’t lie. It’s good that you got him quickly, Lex. We’d have brought him home. He’s hood and he’s family.” I smiled, “Love you Heath. Stay safe.” Heath said, “You too. Get yours scared tone on.” I laughed and hung up the phone.
I answered making my voice sound panicked but shaky, “TED? Ted are you alright?” Ted said, “I’m fine.” I heard a growl. I said, “Words going out, no one had an official word. The Hood himself is pissed, Ted. He’s talking about paying people visits…. angry visits!” Ted said, “I figured he would be. I’m all good fairy princess healed and everything.” I heard Matt say, “From now he will have guards, Lex.” Ted said, “AWWW come on! BA came to get me herself. That should count for something. See how protected I am? BA? Come on people!” Matt growled. Ted sighed, “It seems I will have bodyguards. We will need to find somewhere for them to sit in our office.” I laughed, “You need them at least for events! I can’t be without you Ted. You scared the crap out of me.” Ted said, “I’m alright. I gotta call my mom. Words definitely out, and she’s called twenty times.” I laughed, “I wish you well. You know you should just show up with Matt. That would help you get off her bad side.”
Ted said, “This is why you’re my best friend. I’ll bring him home, and she’ll be too excited to meet him to be mad at me for long.” I said, “She’s been waiting for you to bring home your string for three and a half years. She’s been collecting presents for him for years. Matt, I hope you have a truck to haul the LOAD of presents you are going to head back to your pack with. Bye Ted. I’m glad you’re alright.” Ted said, “Me too. BA saves the day again.” I heard Matt say, “Presents?” I laughed as I closed my phone. I went out the front. I sighed. I still had shadows. I smirked. Let’s see if they wanted to come out and play. I took off running. I could hear them behind me, but they weren’t too close. I sighed. Seems they weren’t going to come out even though I’d presented them the opportunity. Did Alpha Chase have people on me because I was Ted’s friend? These shadows clearly didn’t want to hurt me. I reached a clearing and decided to take a break. Which turned out to be a bad call on my part. I saw shimmers start in the space around me. “OH SON OF A b***h!” I leaned down and pulled two knives out of my shoes to fight demons. One thing I’d picked up from spending A LOT of time fighting with Haley was… they always had a spare weapon. I’d adopted that policy. The only time I’d forgotten was when I’d put on that Jasmine costume. Eight demons appeared from the shimmers, “Come with us.” One told me.
I rolled my eyes hiding my weapons behind my back, “Why would I do that?” One stepped forward, “We have questions, Diane.” OH f**k IT ALL TO HELL AND BACK! “You’re part of Unger’s sect of demons? He and I are friends. If he wants to speak to me, then he can come get me himself.” One laughed, “Unger is dead Diane. We originally thought the princess of the fairy’s and Hackura killed him, but really it was the Black Arrow. We received information that you, Diane, could give us answers. We want justice.” I said, “I don’t know where you got your information, but I can’t help you. Sorry. I truly am sorry to hear about Unger.” One girl stepped forward, “He offered you the title of his spear, and you turned him down.” I sighed, “I have someone out there made for me. Unger and I didn’t even have a s****l relationship.” She hissed, “He was EVERYTHING to me! I want you to give me the Black Arrow. Our information says you can!” I said, “You’ve been lied to.” I was going to find this leak and kick in their f*****g teeth. One demon grabbed my shoulder, and all hell broke loose. The two blonde wolves from before jumped into the clearing ripping two demons apart. I buried my knife into the throat of the demon grabbing me and severed his carotid. I was locked in a battle with two of them when the smell of sandalwood hit me. Oh god. Not now Lex! FOCUS! I shook myself and took an opening to end one of the demons fighting with me. A wolf grabbed the other. I looked around sighing in relief, “You guys are like my guardian angels. I’m going to have to set up a recurring gift to be sent to Alpha Chase weekly at this point.”
The wolves were a few feet away from me when both their heads snapped in the opposite direction. I turned to face the other way as my body was demanding I follow the sandalwood smell. A black wolf surged out of the tree line heading directly for me. I couldn’t move. Somehow his eyes were full of terror. I wanted nothing more than to calm him down. He jumped and knocked me to the ground, and I heard him whine in pain. My heart hurt at the sound as everything in me fell into place. “Oh. my. god… it’s you! You’re my string.” The wolf shifted back into Alpha Chase. My voice caught in my throat. I was overwhelmed by emotions. I heard the two blonde wolves ripping something apart, but I couldn’t look away. Tears filled my eyes, “It’s you. Are you ok? Are you hurt?” Chase’s eyes glazed over. “Had...to…. protect…. you….” I said, “What?” His words were slurring. It looked like effort as he put his hand on my face, “You’re….so…. beautiful….and… mine.” It sounded like he tried to growl the words. Against everything my body wanted I shifted out from underneath him. I gasped. There was a tranquilizer dart in his side. I pulled it out. I had a counteragent in my house. I’d have to take him there. I was slightly panicked at the thought, but he was my string. He was welcome in my home, and the thought of not being with him right now was unbearable. The two guys shifted back and grabbed some shorts that were around. Chase’s chest was moving, so I knew he was ok. It was as if my whole world was riding on the cadence of his chest moving. My poor brother. My eyes trailed over the rest of Chase’s body. I gulped, forcing myself back from biting his butt. Not the time Lex. My mouth watered again. One of the wolves spoke, “Luna… we need to get him to the pack doctor.” I said, “Luna? Oh god… that’s right.” Then I laughed, “I’m your Luna and Ted is your Beta male? God our war goddess got that one right. I have a counteragent at my house. I’ll take him there, and he can… link you that he’s ok. Right, He can do that, can’t he?”
They looked at each other, “Yes he can. Can you pick him up?” I laughed, “Of course I can. Stand back and be amazed. He’s been having you guard me, hasn’t he?” They both looked at each other, “When he cannot himself, yes.” I smiled, “Thanks for the assists lately. Eight demons is a lot for one person.” Both smirked, “You seemed to be doing just fine without us.” I smiled, “I’m very capable, but a helping hand is always appreciated.” I hoisted Chase up onto my shoulders much to the surprise of the wolves. I turned, “What are your names?” The one closest to me gathered himself first, “I’m Kincade, and this is brother Kevin.” I said, “I’m sure I’ll be seeing you around. I’ll try not to lose you guys too much now that I know who’s following me. Sorry about that. I’m guessing it didn’t make your lives easy.” Kincade laughed, “That would make our Alpha happier, and our job easier if we didn’t lose you. He understood, but he was not happy.” I smirked, “Well, it’s nice to officially meet you guys. Race you guys back to my house.” I took off. I was a little slower carrying Chase, but I beat them easily. I took a deep breath and took Chase past the barrier. This was big for me. I was already trusting him, even though I knew he had some situation going on in his life. I put him on the couch. I squeezed his hand, “You already own my heart, Alpha Chase. I just need you not to break it. I won’t survive it this time.” I hit my panels and pulled out a pressure syringe. I hid everything again and put the sensor onto his thumb. I traced my hands over his face. His eyes opened and he sat up with a start. I smiled, “Hi Chase.” He growled, “I don’t have any semblance of control anymore Lexi. Not with you so close.” He yanked me to him, crashing his lips onto mine. I moaned and became acutely aware of the fact that… Chase was still naked and very hard beneath me.
