CHAPTER FOUR

“You girls left earlier than us so why did you just arrived?” Despite hearing Nathan’s question, Theia just rolled her eyes and let go of Daisy, the two of them taking a seat beside each other, the both of them seated in the two vacant seats the guys reserved for them. Seeing their sitting arrangement, Daisy looked at her left, seeing Eric silently looking outside the window with his headphones on, completely looking like he doesn’t have a care in the world.  She then looked at his table before facing him once again. “Why are you sitting there?” she asked. “Based on my diary, I’m supposed to be the one on that spot, and not you.” She continued. “Uhm Dee, not to be rude but,” Theia started, making her look at her with a brow raised. “He has his headphones on. He won’t hear you.” She said, rolling her eyes once again. “At least tap his shoulder first of something.” Hearing that, it was Daisy’s turn to roll her eyes. Instead of saying words, she took Eric’s phone from his table and opened it, his screen showing no signs of music nor his headphone being connected by Bluetooth. “He’s faking it.” She said, explaining it to the two who’ looking at her confusedly. “I saw his phone lit up with a message and there’s no music or a sign that his headphone is connected.” Theia let out an inaudible ‘oh’, followed by a slow nod. “Well, I have a question too.” She said, turning to look at the guy on her right. “Why are you sitting there? You’re supposed to be in the front.” Nathan just shrugged, a mocking grin present on his lips which made her roll her eyes and release an infuriated sigh. “Fine.” She gave up, glaring at him. “I don’t care anymore. Suit yourself, Edwards.” After watching them, Daisy turned her attention back to the guy who’s already staring back at her. “I just want to be here.” He answered immediately. “Didn’t see your name written at the chair too.” He added with his signature smirk. Glaring at him, Daisy couldn’t help but to roll her eyes. “Out of my 19 classmates, you’re the most irritable one I don’t think I can stand to be with for another second.” She said with a frown, causing for his smirk to widen. “Ouch.” He said, but his expression and monotonous voice doesn’t support his reaction. Getting fed up, Daisy just shook her head and looked in front of them, deciding that ignoring him was probably the best option she has. Fortunately, some seconds after, their professor entered the classroom. “Good morning, everyone.” Mr. Maverick Vlad, greeted. “Good morning sir.” The class, mainly all the girls, replied; the flirty and sweet voice of the girls overlapped the normal greeting offered by the guys. This class is pretty normal. Daisy thought, quietly observing the class she’s in. Elite class my foot. She mentally scoffed. This class is just like any normal class filled with girls who chases guys. “Sir is cool again today, isn’t he?” Theia whispered to her. Hearing no replies, she looked at her rans saw her looking in front with bored eyes, making her smile and then nudged her to make her look. “What?” she asked, her bored gaze made Theia chuckle. “I know what you’re going to say.” She said, looking at her best friend with a proud grin. “These girls are fawning over our professor again? So what if he’s young? He’s still older than us.” Daisy looked at her amusedly. “How did you know what I’m thinking?” she asked, making Theia’s smile wider. “I mean, yes it’s true that sir just graduated last year and he decided to teach us stuff,” she said, rolling her eyes. “But he’s still a teacher! Why can’t girls get that?” “Sir Mav’s just turned 24 this year, duh.” Theia replied before rolling her eyes. “We’re not loveless person like you, you know.” She said, causing for Daisy to glare at her. Unfazed, Theia continued. “Who doesn’t want to get closer with sir? He came from a sub-noble family and he’s not bad looking!” she explained. “Don’t you feel attracted to his jet-black eyes?” she asked dreamily. “No.” she replied without any second thoughts. “See?” Theia questioned, proving her point. “You have a heart of stone. I don’t know what did auntie feed you when you’re a baby but there’s definitely some food that caused you to be like that.” Having no words to reply at her friend’s dumb answer, Daisy just sighed and looked in front once again. “Don’t worry. I heard nothing.” She said with a blank face, still looking in front. “I didn’t witness you blame food either.” “Today, we have another student to join in our class.” Their professor announced, starting for gossips and whispers of shock to erupt, all having the same question: why did they have another transferee in the elite class? “Settle down everyone.” Sir Mav ordered, a gentle smile present on his lips. Seeing the silence coming back, he nodded in satisfaction before looking at the door, making eye contact with the new student waiting outside. “Come in.” With his signal, a guy wearing gray and brown sweater, faded jeans and navy-blue shoes, all complimenting his brownish hair and blue eyes, almost the same hue with Daisy’s blue orbs. “Great. Another good looking bastard.” Nathan commented, his face saying the opposition of the transferee’s existence. “What? You’re feeling insecure?” Theia teased, a chuckle escaping her lips as she looked at her pissed seatmate. This soccer jock doesn’t know his own looks and features, eh? Theia thought, silently looking at him who’s now focused on his phone that he slipped under his table. Stupid handsome jock. “Calvin Strauss. Nice to meet you.” He greeted, his voice almost matching the coldness Eric emits when speaking. “What’s with that guy? An Eric 2.0?” Daisy asked, a brow raised while observing the newcomer. “Shut up. He’s nowhere near my league.” Eric replied, making her look at him and just noticed that his headphones were already off. “Done with pretending you’re busy with your headphones on?” she asked. “Nice plan to stop people from talking to you.” She scoffed before rolling her eyes. With Calvin not saying anything to continue his introduction, Sir Mav decided to cut it short by gesturing to the class. “Alright. This class has their freedom to sit wherever they want.” He explained. “Go ahead and pick any from the vacant seats.” Calvin nodded. He then roamed his gaze to the room before walking forward. “Don’t compare me with that loser.” Eric said, his blank gaze followed the transferee’s steps. “You’re still not over with that?” Daisy asked, looking at him as if she’s done with anything connected to him. I wonder how his brain works. “If this will calm your ego then fine,” she said, rolling eyes, causing for a smirk to appear while he’s looking at her. “You’re far more worse than that new guy.” “You mean me?” With the sudden voice interrupting their conversation, the two looked behind them, seeing Calvin sitting behind Eric. “I don’t know if comparing me in terms of who’s worse is a compliment or not.” He added. “I should be the one who’s complaining, not you.” Eric countered, their voices made it sound like it’s a debate between guys with monotonous voice; both embodying stone and ice. Yep. Daisy concluded. He’s just an inch away from being an Eric 2.0. She thought, looking at the guy who’s now silently looking in front of them. “It’s rude to stare, miss. Look in front.” Calvin said, causing for Daisy to snap at her thoughts and look in front of them. Is he thinking that I’m a creep now? She thought, not forgetting to glance at Eric who’s now looking outside by the windows. But still, Eric’s worse than Calvin. Daisy frowned at that thought. To think that he already looked away from the new guy without even telling me to do the same. The nerve. “What’s with the stare? You want to switch places with me?” Eric asked, causing for her glare to stop and look at him with shock. “What?” Eric shook his head and flicked her forehead, making her move back and touch the affected part while glaring at him. “What the hell was that for?” she asked, now more irritated than before. “You’re spacing out, Middlemist.” He stated, making her brows knit in annoyance. “Thank me for waking you up.” He said with a smirk, then he looked back on the window and acted like nothing happened, pissing her more. Biting her lip to prevent herself from exploding, she looked at her desk and looked at their professor who’s now busy explaining their topic for the day. Those walking icebergs just called me because of staring at them. She thought. It’s a bad sign. I can feel it. Having two icebergs isn’t a great idea. Meanwhile, Theia’s trying hard to stop her laughter from escaping. “Seriously? You’re staring at those two?” she asked in a whispering manner, teasing her best friend that’s now silently taking notes. “I’m not staring.” She whispered back; her eyes still focused on her notebook. “I’m just observing the transferee and I glared at Eric. That’s all.” “Oh? Really?” Theia commented, her singsong tone says she’s not believing her. “Will you stop dragging me in your weird fantasies?” Daisy asked, now looking at her with a glare. “Stop reading too much novels cause it’s getting on your head.” Ignoring her remarks, Theia looked at Eric who’s just staring outside the window, then her gaze looked at Calvin who’s using his phone underneath his table. With a nod, she looked at her best friend. “If I’ll write a story, I’ll definitely make you three a love triangle.” With an offended gasp, Daisy rolled her eyes. “Seriously? You’re teaming me up with those ice dudes?” she asked, creep and disgust clearly written on her face. “Focus on Nate, Theia Lee. Or else.” She threatened. “Or else what?” she challenged. “I’ll create a banner and hang it by the school gates to say that your head over heels for Nathan Edwards.” Without any other word, Theia looked at Nathan and left Daisy alone, causing for her to release a small sigh before continuing her work. Love triangle? Really? She thought, rolling her eyes. Who’s going to like those freaks? She mentally judged, slowly turning her head to look at Calvin, who’s unfortunately, noticed her and looked back, making her widen her eyes and immediately returned on writing notes. Why am I dwelling on that thought anyway? Nothing’s good with those guys. She continued, her hand stopped writing and not following what the professor’s saying anymore. Especially him. At the mention f the guy beside her, her gaze shifted from her notes then to Eric who’s silently watching the grassy field. “Take a picture. It lasts longer.” Eric said, not sparing her a glance. “I don’t need one.” Daisy scoffed, hiding the shock she felt after being called out for the second time. “You’re just blocking the view.” She said, activating her acting skills. Hearing no response, Daisy continued writing and focused herself to prevent her from doing anything stupid. What’s with you, Daisy Middlemist? Wait, no. This is Theia’s fault. Not mine. She convinced herself. Yes. So calm down now. It’s Theia’s fault. Nathan, on the other hand, couldn’t concentrate on playing on his phone that is also hidden under his desk. “What’s wrong, Lee?” he asked, deciding to turn off his game and face the root of his distracted state. “H-huh what.” She stuttered. “You keep looking at me. What? Fallen for me already, huh?” he asked, a playful smirk displaying on his features. Theia remained silent, her eyes blinking several times as if processing what just happened. “I- what the?!” she whisper-yelled, her expression betraying her by simply giving off the flushed look instead of the angry one. It’s Daisy’s fault. Theia thought, lowering her gaze while biting her lip in nervousness. Who in the earth will blackmail me by putting up a banner that states I that I like this stupid jock! No one, right?! No one! “Theia Lee.” “S-sir!” she said, shock written on her face as she sit up straight and looked at their professor who’s looking at her with confused eyes. “I’ve been calling you thrice but you’re not answering.” He sternly said. “Sorry sir.” She apologized, slowly standing up with her gaze plastered on the floor. It’s Daisy’s fault! “Are you listening while I’m discussing?” Sir Mav questioned. Oh no. “Yes sir.” She said with a small smile. “Then quote the familiar saying which expresses an important principle of the Gestalt movement. I mentioned this before.” Definitely an Oh No. “Uh,” she started, trying to buy time. Daisy, on the other hand, quickly wrote the answer at the back of her notebook. Then she positioned herself like someone who’s taking notes before kicking Theia’s foot. She then looked at her and saw the words written on the page where Daisy’s moving her pen but not touching the paper. “Uh,” she repeated. “The world is greater than the sum of its parts.” She said, then looked at him with a small smile. With a nod, Sir Mav motioned for her to take a seat, causing for her to heave a sigh of relief the moment she returned on her seat. “I won’t thank you though.” Theia whispered. “What did I do?” Daisy whispered back. “I’m supposed to not help you because you’re the one who did something.” She added, still focused on taking down notes. Theia gasped; her lowered gaze now turned to her after her words. “What did I do to you?” she asked, her tone’s higher than usual. “I’m not the one who threatened me to hang a banner with false infos on it.” Hearing that, Daisy looked at her. “Am I the one who keeps blabbering about love triangle fantasies?” she scoffed. “It’s your fault.” If you didn’t say anything, I don’t need to think about it. I’m getting corrupted. “What’s with your whispering?” Nathan asked, looking at Theia who’s almost tearing up her notebook because of her harsh writing. “Something happened with you two?” “Shut up.” Theia said, looking at him with a frown before returning back on writing. Come to think of it, Nathan’s also at fault. She thought. Why did he switched chairs and sit beside me in the first place? “Okay everyone, for this week’s activity, I want you to have your seatmate as your partner. Apply the lesson we’ve discussed and create a 2000-word essay regarding their characteristics. Take note of their way of thinking and try to create a deeper understanding of your partner’s personality. Got it?” he explained with a smile. “Yes sir.” The students answered in a lazy manner, making Sir Mav chuckle at their reaction. “It’s not that bad. If there’s any difficulty in performing the activity, ask me for suggestions.” After he mentioned that, a hand was raised, making him look at the student who called for him. “Yes, Calvin?” At the mention of his name, the students looked at him, all curious with what he’ll say. “I have no partner. The class number is 21.” He stated. “In that case,” their professor started, thinking of a possible solution. “Create a three-member group with the nearest one to you then.” With that, Daisy heaved a sigh. I have a bad feeling about this. “That will be the ones in front of you, since there’s lots of vacant seat beside you.” The professor said. Great. So great. “Is that alright with you two?” Sir Mav questioned, looking at the other two involved. “Yes sir.” Daisy answered on their behalf. Of course it’s not alright! Her brain countered despite the confident answer she gave their professor.
