Ryan’s POV
Even though I missed Abigail’s entrance, I tried to mix-in with the crowd of guests as I entered the party. I decided to come in through the woods near the back of the party as if I was watching Abigail from afar. As I got closer to the party, I noticed that Abigail was still near the back of the house on the other side of the dance floor greeting guests. I started weaving my way around the guests when I stopped suddenly at Titus’s words. Mate! Our mate is here. We must find our mate.
As I stood on the dance floor, I began scanning the crowd to see if Titus recognized our mate. I looked in Abigail’s direction first, but Titus was not picking up on her being our mate. Since Abigail wasn’t our mate, I either need to accept our mate (which she is hopefully of higher ranking), or I will have to reject her. I knew that the safety of my pack was my priority even if that meant rejecting my destined mate and taking a chosen mate, Abigail.
I continued to turn in a circle scanning the crowd when my eyes landed on none other than the lowly omega girl. Titus perked up instantly screaming, Mate, Mate. I was starting to get a headache from him. He tried to push forward so he could take control and go towards our mate. I refused to let him have control. I was confused, dazed, and excited all at once. I wanted to go scoop her up and claim her as mine, yet I was confused as to why the moon goddess would pair me with her.
I stood starring at her and tracking her steps. She was in a themed costume that accentuated her figure. She was a little on the thin side and not in an attractive way but more of a malnourished way. Even with her being thin, she had curves in all the right places. She turned to provide food for a guest on her left when I saw the scars on her lower back. It looked like she had been whipped. Titus pushed forward more and wanted to demand why his mate had scars. I pushed with all my might to keep him down. I knew I could not afford Alpha Thomas as an enemy. What he did with his pack and his pack members was up to him.
I was seething at looking at her scars. I could only see some with a mixture of old and new scars on her lower back. I assumed she had more scars on her back that was covered with her long hair. I wanted to stare at her more when I was snapped out of my thoughts at Abigail’s squeal. I looked in her direction but knew what I had to do. Instead of walking to Abigail I walked to my mate. She just noticed me when Abigail squealed. The look she had of utter shock and fear on her face.
Titus was reeling and could tell what I was going to do. He kept yelling at me to not do this, but I knew I had to. As I struggled to fight against him, I lost control for a minute when she submitted to the gamma’s son. Titus took the opportunity to break forward and stop him from striking our mate. We could both feel her fear as she trembled in our grip. Titus tried to calm her with his touch and words.
When the crowd gasped at his words, I took control again. I dropped her hand and took a step back. She wore a face of sorrow as I back away. She knew something was wrong. Before I could think twice about taking her as my mate I spoke the words, “I, Alpha Ryan of the New Moon Pack reject you as my mate.”
Her face twisted from sorrow to agony. I could feel my heart trying to rip me apart, but I stood there strong as I spoke the words. Titus was roaring in my head to take the rejection back. As she dropped to her knees, I took one last final look at her. I turned abruptly and made my way to Abigail. I took her hand and walked off with her.
I will forever remember the look my mate gave me as I rejected her. Titus will eventually forgive me once he is done being angry. I had to do this for my pack. I was an alpha and I needed Abigail as my mate.
