Mrs. Elena Brown quickly composed herself, as she heard that their boss was around. She told Mrs. Tonia that was busy clicking on her keyboard,
"Well, since you said that the boss is around. This is Thelma Sebastian, and she's a new Internship student here with us. As Mr. Henry Black is busy now to attend to her for her interview. So let her meet with the boss directly instead, and I can finally post her to the section that she will work with."
Mrs. Tonia stopped clicking on her computer and stared at my face. She asked, "Why did she arrive late? I'm aware that Henry had interviewed the rest of the new Internship students here with us today. Well let her wait aside, as I have to prepare the boss's appointment first. Because as soon the meeting with the members ends, some of them will be here to see the Boss," Mrs. Tonia Briggs said, and she shifted her gaze back to her computer and resumes clicking on it.
Mrs. Elena Brown stared at me and said, "I'm so sorry, Thelma. I have to go now, but once you have seen the boss, I will take you to your coach. Please wait here for her to be through, so that you can meet with our boss."
"Okay, ma'am," I replied to Mrs. Elena Brown, and she smiled to me and finally walked away.
I stared around the big transparent glass office that belonged to Mrs. Tonia Briggs, as I stood in front of her office desk.
I finally settled on the guest seat set aside in her office, as she's so busy with her computer.
I sat down waiting for hours, and I kept on wondering who their boss is.
Soon I heard the sound of the elevator door opened, and five men in black suits walked out elegantly into the fourth floor hallway.
I felt my breath seized as I stared at them.
They walked towards Mrs. Tonia Briggs' office and two went into another glass office to speak with the female staff there.
I couldn't hear their conversation, but I could see them through the glass walls separating us.
I sat patiently waiting for Mrs. Tonia Briggs to be through, and the three men in black suits finally walked into Mrs. Tonia's office to meet her. As two men had already left into another office. One of the three black men asked Mrs. Tonia, "Is the boss around now?"
"Yes, but he's busy and attending to someone," Mrs. Tonia replied professionally, and the black man hummed, "Okay."
Mrs. Tonia looked at me, and I returned my gaze back to my phone as I sat down waiting too.
I assumed probably Mrs. Tonia wants to offer my seat to the three men standing in her office, as I sat alone on the long couch that could contain three people.
I stood up from the couch, and I asked Mrs. Tonia, "Do they want to sit down here?"
The three men were shocked to hear my tiny voice. As I knew that my voice was somehow lovely, and Steven had encouraged me to quit business studies and to join music class. But I refused, as I had to do what my parents wanted me to do.
"No, thank you pretty lady," one of the three men in black replied, as he called me pretty, my cheeks immediately flamed red, and I asked him, "So I can sit back?"
"Yes, Sure." The man that had spoken to me replied, and I looked up at his face and sat down back.
He doesn't look anything like the man that I had a one night stand with, but he looks mature and black enough like him too.
I assume the black man was probably one of their partners, in their board of members meeting.
"What's taking Mavin so long to be through with his conversation in his office? Last weekend, he was acting grumpy and sick in the meeting hall, and today, he doesn't want to meet with any of us as well.. Can you explain to me what's going on here, Mrs. Tonia?" The black man finally questioned Mrs. Tonia in an authoritative voice, but what caught my own attention was the fact that he mentioned "Mavin."
Was he the same Mavin White that Steven and my father had warned me to stay away from?
I also looked at Mrs. Tonia's face to hear her response, and more men in black suits stepped out from the elevator, and they walked towards Mrs. Tonia's office. Some had displeased looks on their faces, some had expressionless looks, and I felt to disappear away from them.
"Mr. Richard Ruben, the Boss Mavin is in an important meeting now with a client, and I'm sorry it's taking longer than usual, but I will contact him now to let him know that you all are here and waiting to see him..." Mrs. Tonia replied to Mr. Richard that had spoken to me earlier, as she reached for her telephone line. But Mr. Richard quickly stopped her as the murmuring in Mrs. Tonia's office got louder due to the different men standing in her office now.
Mr. Richard asked her, "And this pretty lady here? Why's she waiting too?"
"She's one of our new staff here, but only waiting for her interview with the boss.." Mrs. Tonia replied.
"Really?? When did Mavin start employing young pretty ladies here? I never knew about that, and my two sisters were requesting to come for their internship training with him, but I told them no.." Mr. Richard said, as his eyes continue to watch me intently where I sat.
I felt uncomfortable under his watchful gaze, but not because of him, but because of the name that he kept on calling.
"Don't mind Mavin.. I think he really needs a woman in his life to relieve him of stress, so that he can concentrate on his office works, and work properly too." Another man in black suit said, while Mr. Richard smiled and he walked towards the couch that I sat on. He sat down beside me on the couch too.
He said, "That's alright, Mrs. Tonia, we will wait for Mavin to be through, but why not allow him to attend to this pretty lady here first. As I can see that she looks so tired already, and waiting for so long just to see Mavin today.."
And before I could counter what Mr. Richard said, another man in black suit fired, "You ain't serious, CEO Richard. If you don't have any important place to go too, we do. So Mrs. Secretary call Mavin White now! And tell him that we are out here in your office and waiting to meet with him. Henry Black isn't negotiating properly with us, and the company's new percentage increase is too much.."
I stood up immediately from the guest seat as I heard Mavin White's name.
I was thankful that I hadn't gone into his office yet, but Mr. Richard quickly caught my left wrist, just before I could walk away. He stood up too and asked me, "What's wrong, Miss? Is there anything wrong with the couch? With the way that you just stood up now from the couch?"
"No .. I mean, .. I have to go home," I replied, as I couldn't tell all the men that were now silent, and staring at me that I can no longer see their boss.
I got so uncomfortable with the way that Mr. Richard Ruben was holding my left wrist tightly. He calmly asked me, "But why is that? Since when have you been here waiting to see Mavin. This is already 1pm.."
"1pm.. Or no.. I'm not feeling well, so I have to go home now.." I lied again, as I immediately want to disappear, but Mr. Richard Ruben was still holding my left wrist, and he stared at me intensely and said, "Wait, I will ask Mr. Mavin to attend to you first, and beside, I came before the men and we all met you here, so they can all wait.."
"What do you mean by wait, CEO Richard? If you have fallen in love with the cute lady here, then you should be the last to meet with Boss Mavin. As we all have to leave here on time, and to get to our firms too! So do aside with your kind nature and speak for yourself alone!" Another man angrily spoke to Mr. Richard that was still standing beside me.
The huge office door opened, a tall man in white suit and blue undershirt stepped out, and he left the hall.
Mrs. Tonia Briggs looked at all of us standing in front of her office desk confusedly, not knowing who to ask to go in.
Mr. Richard quickly said, "Fine, I will be the last to meet with Mavin, but first, he should attend to this pretty lady here, so that she can go home and resume back with her work tomorrow."
